    Luckily I never got round to scrapping the layout as I have dusted off the central two boards with the intention of turning them into a stand alone shunting puzzle.

    I have to say I did look at the coke wagon and think it was a D299 with raves on. As a side there is a D299 fitted with raves, although not strictly Midland. The SDJR converted 14 of their D299 wagons to carry peat by adding raves and a door in the sides in 1912. They were the only revenue stock retained by the SDJR in 1914. The were modified in 1925 having their end raves fully planked. The all passed to the LMS in 1930 and some lasted until the mid 1950's as one was photographed at Highbridge wharf in 1956.

    I have found very few Pre-Grouping photos other than the ones you already have. There is a photo of a W&UT PO wagon in Hudson V4. I'm in a similar situation with my new micro layout. I'm just filling it with standard GER wagons with a few extras thrown in. I'm working on the principal If I can't prove it then no one else can disprove it either. Remember the words of the late Prof Mick Aston "Absence of evedence is not evedence of absence" so unless there is a rule that says it can't run on the line run what you want.

    Neil, The tubeiler wagons didn't just end up on the Furness, the LYR tried some and some ended up in Sydney on the NSWGR. I have drawing and photos. Marc

    This project might be about to be brought back to life but in P4 as part of the 2026 challenge. So watch this space.

    I think they are 16ft1 long and 7ft9 wide if my memory is correct.

    Foam is now down (but not glued) it needs the basin cutting out. All the rivets are now fixed in place so track laying can now start as all the rail is cut to length. I placed two GER van bodies on the track bed last night so see if the rail spacing is ok. What do people think? To close?

    The foam has just arrived so tomorrow it will be cut to shape and glued down. It might be in a state that the public can see something running shortly.

    Baseboard finished ish. Lid and pelmet to befitted later. Hoping to get the rail attached to the rivets tomorrow so I can push a wagon or two over the track as a test.

    A bit of progress this week. As I try to recover from Scalefourum. I have ordered some buildings. One of which is a pub. So that will be the "Lock Inn". It's going in to block any view of the scenic brake. I have also got a book on modelling docks and inland waterways which has got lots of ideas. I'm hoping to have the majority of the track down tomorrow. So hopefully I will be able to test roll a wagon over everything by this time tomorrow.

    More likely to find it in God's country to the west. If the find some around Kelly Brae then the reopening of the PD&SWJR becomes an option.

    I wouldn't use set track points again. On the layout under construction I'm using A4 points as a minimum which works out at about 4'6 ish.

    Hi Andrew, I did that when I built the layout and it didn't that much. I'm running wagons the are 15'6 or less LOH and 9'6 WB or less. And still on occasion get the problems with some stock.

    I was looking to add to my 7mm loco stud for my micro layout W C Boggs which uses Peco Set track points. Being a bit of a LSWR man I liked to look of the B4 tank however the over hang at each end gives me some concerns regarding buffer locking. I have a few Terriers which are ok chimney first but not bunker first. Has anyone any experience of Shunting over set track with a B4? Marc

    The Kendal wagon could have got there via carnforth which would be less shunting moves.

    No U in the one in the Duchy. And I'm presuming the one in Cambridgeshire is a bit posher having lived in Camborne.

    Very interesting I have produced the exact same wagon as a kit. The only things missing are the Burnett's build plate and axle boxes. Marc

    Yes please on the Thompson wagon. I'm wondering if they also supplied coal on the Furness line at carnforth, arnside etc.🤔
