  1. I've just purchased an NCE power cab to replace a non functioning MERG system, can I reuse the MERG canusb. I realise that one end of the curly cable will need to be trimmed to fit the connection on the canusb terminal block.
  2. Thanks for looking at my images on Flickr, I do like a bit of green as well. I model in OO what I spotted between about 1971 and when I started my railway career I '78. I'm holding out for 56036, hopefully Cavalex will do it proud, the paint was barely dry when I climbed on the footplate of that loco at Mantle Lane in the summer of '78.
  3. I'll give you bonus points if you can get that certain smell which wafted across the town! Thought you might like this image taken in 1980 looking from just outside the diesel depot toward the station as 56060 passes with empty MGR's Meanwhile 47205 has come down from Coalville for fuel.
  4. Sorry missed 29, which appears to have retainded gangway doors through to withdrawl.

A couple of months ago I was contemplating selling up my small collection of WR steam, and concentrating on stock suitable for Dewsbury Midland. Today I now have a Rapido B set and maroon N59 on order, I'm bidding on a 4575 prairie. The Dean goods is on the weathering workbench, to be followed by a Dukedog and the only layout I have is American HO! Dewsbury WR anybody!
  6. 25032 at Coalville 25030/31/32 were built in this condition, 25242 lost it's boiler and water tank in 1973. 25032 and 242 were fitted with dual brakes but lacked the body side latches other dual braked locos had. 25032 preTOPS as D5182 was the only one of the trio to appear in plain green with a FYE.
  7. I've had no daytime issues, but do notice it not responding once the US wakes up!
  8. I can find just one example, D1616 with small yellow warning panels and a loco data sticker, does anyone know of others in this condition? Picture courtesy of Loosegrip99
  9. The Styal line was used for an early form of cab signalling, nick named wiggily wire. The class 17 was in the area for a few weeks with the test coach, the white conduit was linked to equipment just behind the buffer beam. The disconnected wiggly wire were still in situ in some places south of Wilmslow long after the testing finished. There are two good books on these locos too.
  10. We are hoping to have it out next year, the problem is the age of the operators and the state of their Backs!
  11. Sorry my mistake, coupled with the fact a Rolls Royce engine was an option on this era of Atkinson. According to a Youtube vid KKU 655P is just one of 18 to be fitted with a Rolls Royce 280 and was uprated to 45 tons gross weight.
  12. There's a couple of clips on Youtube of the the mines rescue Atkinson, the 12 Rolls Royce engine may have been a one off .
  13. For those looking to do a conversion ebay.co.uk/itm/143293106320?hash=item215cef4890:g:ssMAAOSwjjddAiSi I did 1103 a couple of years ago so need this etch for the Stones boiler detail.
  14. Yes, at least I now know I didn't dream it. That will be two pre TOPS on order as soon as the RailExclusive site gets updated!
  15. I seem to have forgotten to pic up the flyer for the 25/1, did I imagine 25043 in green FYE ?
  16. Here is an example of the Wickham set plus one, giving someone at the HSE a heart attack. The cameo is based on a real image of such a train passing north of Toton. The Wickham set is the three sat together and they look to be a very close match to the trio in the real image. The end on image closely matches the real picture on Flickr.
  17. It's finally done, loco is not quite the one in the Flickr image. That was 20037, so I'm not far out.
  18. Based on an image on Flickr (see the Short trains worth modelling thread on Prototype discussions)20037 in the Toton area,, single medfit load as below. Figures are the Wickham set, the three together and a lone one, all from Modelu. There's work to do on the wagon, brake rigging and lettering plus a tail lamp on the draw hook, as per the real thing.
  19. https://www.flickr.com/photos/d1015/32603717625 20037 near Toton pre H&S , I've got a medfit ready for this.
  20. Those of us over a certain age might remember a Railway Modeller article with an identical title, I seem to recall a few n gauge trains in the pictures. Lurking somewhere on Flickr is a picture of a single class 20 one, medfit carrying half a dozen over length sleepers with the Pway gang sat on the sleepers. There's no brakevan and the tail lamp is slung over the draw hook. There's also a picture of 20082 passing Banbury with a streamline Bullied and brakevan in tow, possibly in the OPC book Power of the Class 20's. Dangerous goods trains often fall into the short train category, along with barrier vehicle moves for various reasons. HST vehicles being an easy one to model , not forgetting inspection saloon trips. Not all postals were long trains, Workington Huddesfield was a three vehicle train in later years(steam and early diesel era the train split at Preston) consisting of BG/TPO/BG. I think the Lincoln Derby was even shorter at just a BG/TPO.
  21. I had very similar incident with a Birmingham Glasgow via Manchester service, engine removed at Preston for a leccy but the 47 usually did run to Liverpool. Class 31 for the run to Lime st, then back light to Preston for the last bit of a Glasgow Manchester. The 31 was needed for a parcels on return at Preston, Springs Branch provided 56013 for the run back Manchester and onto Longsight! The Springs Branch driver came for the ride and took the loco back once I bailed out at Victoria on the light engine run back to the branch. I've also had a 37/6 on one occasion on the York Shrewsbury postal due to the late failure of the booked loco at Tyne Yard, the stock came down from Heaton arriving in York around 20.00. At the time the postal was booked into Piccadilly so I believe the loco sat there for a few hours as very few Piccadilly or Longsight drivers had 37 traction knowledge.
  22. CSX 6914 has appeared with a freshly painted Chessie nose! Rumour seems to suggest it's not an official repaint and this link shows it's not been through a full repaint. Looks good though. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/838357/ Thank goodness it's not a Sponge Bob square cab!
  23. I wonder if Bachmann will wire a few rogue models with reverse polarity, realism counts!
  24. The big selling point for me (way back in 1993!) was and still is the correct scale/gauge relationship and couplings that resembled the real thing. Another big plus was tight curves don't look silly on small switching layouts and lots of colour and great weathering opportunities. When Kadee introduced their scale couplings that made things even better, I cut the trip pins off and use a cut down kebab sticks for uncoupling. Downside is the difficulty in getting the small stuff now. Actually the really big selling point for me and US railroads, was ALCO's!
  25. Weathering is with Tamiya acrylics, powders and isopropyl alcohol, pictures taken on Dewsbury Midland (Manchester Model Railway Society layout)
