  1. You have bank balance to see evaporate? .... Respect! My bank account never sees the sun set. My Will says "being of sound mind, I've spent it "

    Little Muddle

Will the motion blur be capable of giving the impression that the guy on the lorry reading his newspaper is turning the page? Or that there is some activity around the shed door? These and other questions ...... Can we assume that the workshop manual for apprentice Thatchers is at the Printers?
  3. I went to the NRM at York about 12 (!) years ago. They had one of their Pacifics over a pit with invitation to visitors to view the working bits. I don't recall the experience as being cramped ... Perhaps I was so much in awe of the engineering that any discomfort was overlooked!
  4. I spent about 15 of my formative years in Walsall, there is/was a statue of Dorothy Pattison (Sister Dora) in the town centre, and the local hospital was named after her, now replaced by another hospital on a different site. Trains from Walsall to B'ham had two commuter routes, via Aston and Proof House Junction, or via Vauxhall & Duddeston, arriving into New Street station from opposite directions, but conveniently the same platform. The early diesel trains allowed passengers to sit directly behind the driver and look over his shoulder forwards to see the route being traversed, I usually was able to take advantage of this facility.
  5. As far as I can tell, having too many locos never has been a restriction in the Model Railways world .

    Motley crew

Has anyone mentioned the amount of soot thrown out from the engine chimney ? My only reference point has been recent preserved locos, which seem to cover their crew with general grime in quick time.

I'm a force-fit in the kitchen ... but I did do the washing up (under duress!) without gaining or breaking anything. does that qualify as +/- 0 ??
  8. Annie, the picture at the top of this page of the Van with outside framing made me blink. an optical delusion causing me to see the van sides to be dished inwards, then as I looked harder the sides seemed to wobble before I convinced myself they really were just flat and upright. Phew! Your note, copied above, gave me problems too, a criticism of The Great Man, my sympathy re. the eyesight difficulties, and the need to stifle a guffaw at the incense and candles comment! Thank you for your interesting posts.
  9. Yes, I avoid Llandudno, have a friend who lives there, he was a bad influence in my youth, got me interested in rebuilding cars for racing, not successfully at all ! In the 50s I did walk the track bed of the Corris and found a track spike which resided as a paper weight on my Desk at work for many years.... wonder what happened to it? Yes it was a grey day, not warm, and it rained on the walk back, followed by a very wet motorbike ride home . Only advantage was there was nothing to spend money on which was just as well 'cos I didn't have any.
  10. If the weather forecast proves correct you won't need to top up the sheep-dip trough !
  11. I'm sure that you must have told us of your source and name of the 10mm foam board which you use to such good effect. can I ask for that information again? I purchased some (make unknown) from a local Hobbycraft store but the central foam was soft and sponge-like which crumbled when cut, and the exterior board needed very little finger pressure to permanently deform. I do admire your ability to produce such beautiful models in such a restricted space.
  12. Probably not useful information as an addition to the detail of your sheep field, but Aston on Clun is the only place where I have seen an Adder .... scared me somewhat as it slithered under a field gate just as I was about to open it.
  13. searching on Bookfinder.com showed the "history" hardback at similar prices (£100+) but also a " Pictorial Record Of The Diesel Shunter" under £10 which may be more use for authentic distressing just a thought!
  14. Not had a dog for many years since losing a pure white Staffie without warning to a brain bleed. My sympathies , James
  15. Got a NHS letter exactly 6 months (to the day!) after second jab, inviting me to get a Booster jab SWMBO got her invite to same time scale two weeks ago . Both at Pop-up Vaccination sites , Mine was accompanied by a choir practice (Christmas Carols) in another part of the building. Our local GP surgery say they have no idea when, or if, they will get supplies of Covid boosters, but we did get 'flu jabs there last week end.
  16. Called at a local garden centre yesterday. Horrified to se that they had their Christmas display well under way to completion

Crafty blighters have sited it so that one needs to pass through to get to the Cafe and toilets .

It doesn't stop there. LT Museum had Christmas stuff in their shop, and Card Factory is full of stuff.

Wifey did buy the Lego and Playmobil sets for the grandchildren the other day, as last year was fraught with getting the requested bits, and that was without the shipping, driver and fuel woes of this year....

They're a bit slow off the mark, Christmas has been popping up in the retail environment since August...

The cancelling of Christmas with just a couple of days to go last year was the highlight of 2020 for me (best Christmas ever!) so I am hoping for a last minute surge and a repeat performance....

  17. Definitely outside the terminus requirement but the LNWR had a loco shed at Derby alongside the lines heading towards Birmingham, Maybe associated with the Leicester line mentioned earlier in this topic . The loco shed fell into disuse after the grouping and was demolished in 1933/34.
  18. Today's paper reports that Vets in the USA are complaining of a shortage of Invermectin because so much is being taken by the (almost human ?) population.
  19. Mikkel has a section of his blog titled "How to eat an Elephant"
  20. We were due our Flu jabs this last W/E but it was cancelled due to the vaccine not being available
  21. If Bill Gates has invested in Ivermectin He'll soon be on his way to his third ( or is it seventh ) fortune
  22. I use a program... adblock .. which seems to eliminate all the external adverts.
  23. Since we were last invaded (by the Romans) I wonder why the Hon David frost is retaining to Arabic numbers. But Douglas Adams answer to the Ultimate Question would'nt seem so funny written as ... XLII
  24. No worth the effort, I get the impression that our Continental cousins view our April Fool humour with the utmost disdain.
