  1. I had occassion to visit Neen Sollars station a few years back. It's a private dwelling and the owner has made a very sympathetic restoration, even removing some extra windows added by the previous owner. I had a look round platform side and he showed me some photo albums which documented what he'd done to it. He had hoped that Newnham Bridge would be similarly restored. At least it hasn't been bulldozed. Cleobury Mortimer and Wyre Forest Halt buildings also survive as private residences.
  2. A friend of mine used to work in a diamond mine in South Africa during the 70's. Christmas day was when they closed and replaced the full size locos that worked exclusively underground. They had 1 year operational life before needing a complete overhaul. They were lowered down (vertically) the main shaft by crane and the old ones lifted out. One time they dropped a refurbed loco when the cable broke half way down. (think he said the shaft was nearly 1 mile deep). It killed a few people unfortunately. He didn't know much about the locos other than they were 'big' ones, like the ones that pulled expresses and big freight in the UK. It took them over a week to get it back out before the mine was reopened.
  3. Brilliantly observed modelling. Love the tracks on the cant and the different ballasting heights. The bridge just frames it perfectly.
  4. Supplementary question A: Say the radius was 480mm at its tightest, what kind of steam loco would get round without too many issues? I'm guessing an 0-6-0 tender loco would manage, but is an 2-6-4t expecting too much? How much relative sideplay do you lose in converting to FS?
  5. Apologies if this has been asked before but I’ve got an idea for a layout in 2mm fs. To make it work I’d need a return curve at each end of 450-500mm radius. Is this feasible? Would be diesels only, and likely not huge ones. The curves would be hidden and ease in radius as they come back into the scenic area. what is the expert view on tight curves? id intend to make it from copperclad on a Templot plan so could add widening as necessary.
  6. A: It was never an argument, so validity is irrelevant B: I have reset router, z21, OS apps on several occassions C: I have followed the ROCO setup steps (again) D: the outcome is still the same. Not to worry, I'll find an expert who can help rather than take issue with my inexperience.
  7. I was only looking for solutions and trying to answer your questions as best as I can. It was set up as per Roco instructions, it worked. Then I unplugged it. I plugged in back in some weeks later and it now doesn't work. As I said, I haven't changed anything knowingly and am trying to fault find.
  8. It was setup separately and ran normally. Just hasn't worked on restart. I have one virgin hub and everything is on wifi apart from my two desktops. All worked fine for 18+ years. The Roco router was only plugged in to this hub during setup as instructed, then unplugged. The two networks are separate and I connect my devices manually (or did when it worked).
  9. In the info pane for the router i have an IP of 192.168.1.100 then below it says "router" 192.168.1.1
  10. Absolutely no clue. Where would that live?
  11. The only time 192.168.0.1 returns anything is on my main netwrok and shows my main router/hub login page.
  12. I'm lost now. 192.168.0.1 is my main home hub. When on the tp network that address times out with no results. Is 192.168.0.1 supposed to be router or z21? Should tp router be connected to internet now? Currently only connected to z21 Neither app can see it in either updater or main app. I am supposed to be using the black z21, rather than the old one with train logo? This was specified on some roco vid I watched.
  13. Sorry, roco router is 192.168.1.100. My devices can see that, just not the z21 connected to it
  14. unable to turn off main router due to family use. the TP router is 192.168.0.111 so not the same.
  15. Yes. Router is operating perfectly. The phone/ipad app cannot see the z21. 192.168.0.111 comes up unreachable. 192.168.0.1 is another router on my network. Tried resetting several times. New installs of app/updater on both devices, neither can see z21 when on the correct network. The only difference since the first install is a new phone, all settings carried over.
  16. I have a z21 that worked fine. Installed easily. Except I turned it off when I reconfigured my layout and now it is invisble to everything, iphone, ipad, computer. All connected as before in the same location with the same plug sockets. Every attempt just says 'not found' on the network. The wifi bit is working fine and all my devices can connect to it. Just the white box is having none of it.
  17. Don't need one...so I bought one. I went Birmingham-Newquay behind one on as a youngster. I remember the heat from it as I walked past on a summer Saturday. 50031 Hood.
  18. That single calamity has ruined Rm as a resource for me. So many potentially informative threads leading to blanks. I've restored some of my photos but it was a long winded task just for a couple of pages.
  19. I have a question, apologies if it's been asked before. On the WCML bits I'm familiar with the fast lines are a pair, as are the slow lines. On this layout the two centre lines are the fast lines. Does the protocol change north of Crewe?
  20. A nice quirky design with lots of scope. Would be nice in S scale
  21. And again 'untragically' a couple of years ago. Now we have a 'lovely' modern station with a waiting room/concourse.
  22. The biggest factor was the amount of stock with EM wheels and to avoid the cost of rewheeling. I also had a surfeit of 0.8mm check chairs.
  23. I'm enjoying this thread, and the previous one. It mirrors my ongoing struggle to get something running without falling into the rabbit hole of scale and gauge. I have issues with space, having a cellar with limited headroom which also serves as my workshop and office (occassionally I'm allowed above ground, but not whilst guests are around). My layout would have to be end to end (3.6m long) or L shaped with a 90 degree turn that could only be 750mm radius at best, adding another 2.4m to the mix. Having had a micro bodge with some Peco BH turnouts I'm happy (not really, really happy mind) that 00 will do for a shelf layout. I'll know, but will use the experience to inform later layouts. I'll be viewing it at eye level mainly so the compromise won't be so bad. I have also been hamstrung by not having proper baseboards, just smaller bits of different dimensions which have been hacked together. Yesterday I picked up a 'proper' baseboard unit from the lads at G&H and have spent the morning glueing it together.
