  1. They're just drop in wheels on a diesel bogie and will be replaced by 'proper' ones before testing.
  2. 'tis but a mere test plank at this point. I have few wagons and an old loco to EM (not having measured them yet I suspect the wheels may be regauged 00) to try. I also have a smattering of P4 bits that I might build into an equivalent form, purely for visual comparison. I think there will be very little in it.
  3. Corrected the sleeper anomaly and cracked on with laying the rest of the rails. It was quick as this turnout is made from recycled chairs and rail from an 00-SF effort of similar dimensions. I only had to adjust the closure rails and stock rail length. Had a little run through with my test wagon with its rusty Gibson wheels and rigid 23'6" wheelbase. All seems fine.
  4. I did wonder how to resolve that. As that part is going to be covered with ash ballast I didn’t fret too much. But I’ll change it now I know.
  5. I had a play with some bits and pieces tonight using EM-SF standards. Usual construction methods with ply sleepers, exactoscale chairs and such. I’ll try and get a wagon rolling tomorrow and see what it runs like. I’m loving the fine flangeways though I’ve always been a sucker for finescale whatever the gauge.
  6. Super, thank you both. I have a balance charger and loco will be not pulling much more than 3 wagons on a shunting layout. I can always add more batteries as necessary if it's not up to the task. Am I right in thinking the SPDT switch toggles between the charging and operating states? So that would be best sited near the charging point? With adding extra batteries is that better in series or parallel? Also do the plethora of running lights on RTR diesels reduce the battery capacity significantly?
  7. I have a Deltang Tx22 controller, Rx 41d-22 reciever and 3.7v battery for installation in a loco for testing. I opened up my Heljan Class 14 to find very little room inside. I was concerned that removing the body for recharging wasn't viable on a regular basis. I'm going to instal in my Class 24 which has acres of space. Does anyone know of best practice in fitting an external charging port? Ideally underneath the battery box. It's no issue to remove loco from tracks as this is normal after an operating session so I don't need charging from rails, just a small socket to connect the balance charger. Is there a thread/diagram/website with a schematic that can be recommended? Absolute beginner in RC btw
  8. Brilliant stuff. Hopefully getting a resin 3D printer soon so brushing up on my own limitied Fusion skills. A printed chassis would be a great way of getting up and running. The current project is getting an RC battery chassis to work (I have a 'really' daft idea about S in the garden as an extension to an indoor layout).
  9. The beauty of a short thread is I'm able to upload most of the missing images fairly quickly
  10. There can never be 'too' many wagons. Especially of this quality
  11. There's me thinking how handy it would be to print out this thread as reference, but no I thought, quickly to scroll through on the browser. Another one of my less clever ideas.
  12. I have some axles and bits on order for this very purpose.
  13. Spare etch you say? Sounds like something that would work.
  14. Cracking idea. I'm glad I thought of it
  15. I don't have a great range of things that fit tbf. I've never built very much and my gloat box is nothing to gloat about, just mainly incompatible wheels and odd shaped bits
  16. Quick question for the S'ers (or from any other scale really) I want to build a test rig mule loco. Basically it doesn't need to be much more than a bogie or 4w chassis capable of holding a motor, and possibly a battery. I haven't ruled out track power just yet, so would fit pickups as well. I could use wagon wheels but would I be able to get gears to fit the diameter without too much faff? I have an old HO scale diesel chassis that could work if I change the wheels/axles as that has the motor in place ( and a bit of weight). Thought I'd ask on here first for sensible, knowledgable answers before shooting off down some blind alley of daftness.
  17. Another level. Exactly the content I come to this corner of RMweb for
  18. If modelled from the South Quay side without the wall it would work.
  19. It has appeared on my radar. I did find a nice plan for the station building online. Enough to make a model from. That whole line is one long diorama. Every angle seemingly full of character and dirty charm
  20. And there's me today nearly stepping on a jiffy bag as I come in. Lots of lovely parts for said loco from Markits. We can progress now
  21. is there an alternative to Markits? I've had one email to confirm they are still trading, that was nearly a year ago. Sent emails and postal orders and still no acknowledgement. Twiddling thumbs for 11 months when I could be cracking on
