    Very many thanks Simon, that's two mysteries solved in one topic! We've seen two very unfamiliar aircraft over the house in the last week- now we know- the A400M trundling (presumably) to and from Hurn (Bournemouth) and the Osprey steaming north at a fair rate of knots. Smashing!

    32500 received yesterday, an absolutely exquisite model, superb detail and excellent running straight out of the box. Very well done Bachmann but also thanks and well done to Hattons- several Emails confirming what was happening with my order,even which member of staff was doing what! Good choice using Royal Mail bless 'em, their tracking system worked perfectly and delivery was bang on time.

    During the 70s when I was working on the infant East Somerset Railway, there was a bitumen unloading facility at Cranmore station.My memory is hazy(surprise) but I seem to remember the tanks being hauled by class 25s.The facility had probably disappeared by the period in question.

    Called in yesterday morning on the way to Sainsbury(just down the road and absolutely heaving!), very impressive, excellent service with a smile and highly recommended. Mrs C. wanted a very specific model car to present as a retirement gift to an old teaching colleague and found exactly what she sought- an original Mini in white with a black roof, so she is now equally impressed! By the way, Paul, very many thanks for the directions, spot on!

    I think a definite round of applause for the team- an excellent edition of the "new look" BRM, that subscription looms closer. Sorry to say, I have just cancelled a sub to a competitor, which IMHO has become rather "tired", just leaves RM and soon "BRM".

    Having had my appetite whetted by the announcement of Southern building kits from ABM Railcraft I took the plunge and purchased Hever Station House and Grange Road signal box. I have just finished the house, and apart from one or two issues with the instructions,(shared with, and accepted by Mr. Mansfield) I can only describe the finished article as "exquisite" (not my modelling,the kit's quality!), cannot recommend too highly.

    An update for interested parties- having received several Emails from Amazon advising of delays, I telephoned Kevin Robertson, the publisher, who tells me that Jeremy English hasn't finished writing it yet!! New date (from Amazon) September.Should be worth the wait!

    I haven't seen any reviews or even a mention of this new(ish) book published by Kevin Robertson.Must say, I found it a cracking read and would have thought it could be very useful to the aspiring Southern Modeller.Vol 2 is available for pre- order from Amazon at a couple of quid under retail price.I suppose I have to add a usual disclaimer but let's face it, books on Southern modelling are not exactly common and IMHO this'un is good'un!

    I'll probably be hung drawn and quartered for this heresy, but one of my most-enjoyed projects was simply to discard the clerestory roof on two old tri ang coaches and replace them with carved about "conventional " roofs (rooves?), repaint in the correct green, rewheel and weather-despite the obvious inaccuracies, they look really convincing.Must say, close study of plans in Mike King's "Push Pull" book of LSWR arc roof stock revealed I wasn't that far adrift!

    For an insight into Forest mining operations and for sheer "Forest" atmosphere try a recent discovery- DVD "Mining in the Forest of Dean", part of the "Narrow Gauge at Work" series obtained from The Signal Box at Anstey,www.signal-box.com.No standard gauge stock or track but fascinating nevertheless.Tim- looking forward to pics of "Travellers Rest" when appropriate!

    Dear old "Tommy", I remember him very well- the last time our paths crossed was in Blandford in the early 70s when he was working in a model shop there- now a hairdressers!

    Superb layout and sooo atmospheric.That "special constable" you mention was probably appointed by my Uncle Frank who was Westerham's "bobby"! I have happy memories of sitting in their front room watching the "Westerham Whizzer" chunter to and fro, just visible in the gap between the houses opposite.

    Fascinating project Paul, I like the graphics! An interesting area in which to site a layout-did you know that in 1899, plans were deposited for the "Lulworth and Osmington Railway" to run 'twixt Worgret Junction and Osmington via East and West Lulworth? (J H Lucking, "The Railways Of Dorset").A slightly more detailed description appears in vol 2 of "Castleman's Corkscrew" by Brian Jackson. look forward to more of your progress. Best wishes, Tim.

    So very sorry Ian to hear of your sad loss; I cannot add anything meaningful to the comments already posted except perhaps to pass on what a friend said to me when I was sorely troubled- keep your chin up Tim, take one day at a time,don't expect too much of yourself and there will be light at the end of the tunnel.If you can find the writings of Lady Julian of Norwich you may be comforted-I was.Thinking of you, Tim.

    Thanks Tim,from your earlier post I wasn't sure if you had come across the DRO publication. If one is planning a fictional railway in Dorset, it could prove very useful.(or even a non fictional railway I suppose!)I do have a rather grainy map of the proposed Beaminster Railway.If this wouldn't breach DRO copyright I would be very happy to send you a copy.     Tim-"Railway Records in the Dorset Record Office" (an indispensable publication if ever there was one!)page 44 mentions the "Beaminster Railway" running from Crewkerne to Beaminster.1864 plan and book of reference under ref QDP(M):R3/80.Hope this helps.

    Can't remember seeing this shop mentioned on RMWeb before. Browsing through their enormous selection of DVDs and videos,I selected three and ordered by 'phone Wednesday morning-received Thursday morning- nuff said!

    Apart from the afore mentioned reversal of east bound trains into the old up platform, I wouldn't have thought the operating pattern had that much to commend it, and IIRC apart from the odd transfer from West station, there were no regular GWR/WR services through South station.
