  1. That is not true across the UK, many Councils do not support small retailers with any form of reduction - let alone ZERO RATING. So for many per sqM they are paying the same amount as the large multiples - in fact use CVAs to seek a reduction in their rent charges also. Not so easy for a small shop.
  2. CANCELLED - due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation. We hope that you will join us on Saturday 18 th September 2021. 3. John Dutfield LLP are pleased to be able to continue our support of Colchester & District MRC at their Annual Exhibition.
  4. In some cases a Retailer will seek the whole set back, and replace everything. However, most Model Railway shops will replace a single faulty item, then return that item to the Manufacturer (with Proof of Purchase) for replacement or a Credit Note - the latter can result in a set being split up, otherwise it cannot be sold as it has something missing. It really is down to how the Retailer deals with Faulty Items back to a Manufacturer, which could be within their Ts and Cs.
  5. On behalf of Mid Essex MRC, we would like to thank everyone whom provided the layouts, Trade Stands and demonstrations - not to forget the Public that make these days possible. We had an increase in numbers through the door, which is very good. We would like to apologise to those left waiting for a bus, as we had a minor prop shaft issue. We also had one layout unavailable - due to some damage being sustained at home. Plans are now well advanced for 2020, which will see us move to a new Venue after 20+ years - Bishop Hill College, Rayleigh Road, Shenfield CM13 1BD. Just a short walk from the railway, there will be parking on site and our Free Shuttle Bus service.
  6. Whilst there is exclusive parking for the Exhibition, there is also a shuttle classic bus service from Shenfield Railway Station - not suitable for those with mobility scooters or walking difficulties.
  7. The only change that we (Mid Essex MRC) can see on our Exhibition Policy for this year, this around any single item being worth above £X,000. This is not the layout, but say a hand built locomotive - probably in a larger scale than 00. The Policy cost is on a par with previous years. Hopefully the sad event which led to a sharp intake by modellers was a one-off. The actions at the GCR were more a removal of items from Traders for resale, not damage to layouts or stock.
  8. Most exhibition policies provide cover Home then back to Home. As Andy states the cover for overnight should also cover the set-up and close-down periods - as long as the organising group/individual has made this clear in their submission. For Traders then that would be down to their own cover agreement with their insurers, but will also normally cover money in transit - subject to certain stipulations.
  9. We have had the Power cars + 3 of the Hornby Scotrail coaches in today. Coaches are now Sold Out, with us and Hornby.
  10. John Dutfield in Chelmsford Essex still has a few of the LaFarge PGAs available

  16. Had a letter from my Credit Card company yesterday. They have placed the money in question back into my account, whilst they investigate the matter. So if they are not happy they will debit the Account. However, if I receive any refund or the requested item then I will obviously need to inform them.
  17. Hornby decided that many were calling themselves Service Agents without any formal training, so they ceased to have any. So now all repairs are sent back, as that is the Hornby preferred model for repairs. We have been asking for years now for Hornby to go back to having Service Agents - we even supplied copies of the 'training materials etc" provided after attending the course in Margate. To date there has been no movement, but Simon and Co are looking at improving all the Hornby Brands and firstly they need to get product out and rebuild confidence in the marketplace.
  18. Seems perhaps odd that the scans/plans are seen as holding no value - as they must I assume include items already produced. So could have a resale - if small - value, wonder if they would be open to any offers being made. As anything achieved above £0 is an improvement and this is what they will be seeking to achieve. The £15K deposit is "uncertain" as they are not 100% confident of recovering any amount - so worse case option. Shame, but this is not and may well not be the last Business to go to the wall. Regardless of the feelings towards Dave he at least did try, and convinced people like the Funding Circle that it was a viable opportunity.
  19. I heard of one layout owner being contacted the night before, asking whether or not he was attending. I guess that others will understand what the answer was, given that there had been no information supplied beyond the original conversation at an exhibition. As I said previously as an individual he will need to ensure that accurate records are kept - for HMRC - as they will wish their Tax to be paid on any Income from these events. Many on here, and elsewhere, have concerns about events / exhibitions being advertised as if they are from a local Model Railway Club or similar organisation. North Norfolk Model Railway Exhibition, may well appear to an individual as being associated with the North Norfolk Railway (the recent GCR event which is directly linked to the Great Central Railway) but that appears to not be the case.
  20. PLEASE NOTE: We have been informed by Essex County Council that the Sandford Road / Chelmer Road Junction is once again OPEN as of today 10 June 2019. We now have some new traffic lights in operation.
  21. Whilst I can understand some of the concerns raised by some on these Forums, no one can really do anything without information coming from LLC direct. Mr. Leathers has another Business - shares Directorship with another - called Kitpart Limited (Company number 11138977) - I wonder if this holds the IPR and tools for the Class 15, as that product is not mentioned in the sales notification for LLC. I also seem to recall when LLC presented a cheque to the Class 15 PG there were at least two other gentlemen mentioned as being 'involved' in LLC, but there is only one declared Officer of LLC. Perhaps these were financial backers of LLC. If so they may have an agreement that in an event such as this they take ownership of certain assets. No one likes to hear of any Business being in difficulties, but clearly openess - even if the update is that X interested parties have contacted LLC - is better than silence which will only induce speculation and even wishes to seek refunds through various means.
  22. Just remember that we are CLOSED on Wednesday, Sunday and Bank Holiday. Looking forward to your visit. Send us an e-mail is ther are any specific items that you are looking for.
  23. Essex County Council contractors are replacing the traffic lights at Sandford Road - due to be completed by end of the first week in June. As this junction is closed diversion signs are in place. If coming from the North then leave Chelmer Road at Cuton Hall flyover to get into Springfield Road. Then turn LEFT at the Prison into the other end of Sandford Road. If coming from the Army and Navy Roundabout use Parkway then turn RIGHT at the Odeon Roundabout onto High Bridge Road. Turn RIGHT up Springfield Road, then RIGHT into Navigation Road, then take the SECOND LEFT into Hill Road look to you RIGHT at the top of the road and see the Shop.
  24. a delightful layout, lovely detail and a good scaling to make it appear far bigger. Just proves that a layout does not have to fill a room to be enjoyable.
