  1. John Dutfield LLP are pleased to be able to once again support this Exhibition. As we have limited space in the van, please contact us (01245 494455 or via our website) if there are any items that we may have that you would like us to take along.
  2. Wishing Ben well, in his new Role. Hopefully Customer Service responses will improve. The 'others' do have problems so Heljan are not alone. I would like an HST prorotype too, along with the missing railcars.
  3. It was very warm all weekend - even with a fan
  4. John Dutfield LLP will be attending the Basildon Exhibition, let us know if there are any items that you would like us to bring along.
  5. Nice to see DT hard at work - sorry researching wagon kits - and Clive looking well.......Clive Shame I could not make the journey, but if it was a Sunday..........
  6. Have known, and dealt, with this Business since the days when Maureen and her Husband owned it. A wonderful couple, and a fantastic shop - used them when I bought DVDs to support a Preservation Society, would go out of their way to help. But the market has changed so no longer in the market. Good to see that they are still going.
  7. Some manufacturers now state that for a certain time a Retailer can discount up to a max percentage, penalty could be that deliveries go back down the queue. The interesting thing is that whilst it appears that many buyers expect a discount, but how do they treat the supermarkets when shopping. I can just imagine the reaction at a Till if they said "I realise that the readout shows £60.99, but would you accept £54.00". Even calling over a Store Manager would not result in any discount. Oh, but do they realise that prices change even when it is not a restock, as the prices come from the EPOS system regardless of whether the stock is old or new.
  8. Interestingly there is a Business called DD Exhibitions Ltd, based in the Manchester area. I doubt if they have any link with DD Exhibitions within this thread. Many individuals have spoken with this gentleman, trying to give him advice based on years of organising Club exhibitions. Whether what is undertaken remains the right side of British Law, that would be subject to Legal Action - maybe after an incident took place, which could be food or financial related. I was informed that the exhibitions are run to provide a means of purchasing somewhere to live. But in HMRC eyes that would be Earned Income so would need to be declared via a yearly Tax Return. oh, the other body whom may have an interest is Trading Standards, if there are misleading or untrue advertised claims being made. Someone mentioned supporting charities, well if that claim is openly used that might interest the charities named and the Charity Commission. The concern no doubt is the potential impact on established exhibitions, if the Public and Modellers feel they have been short changed by these type of events mention in this thread and decide to avoid Club Events.
  9. A shame to see Kim deciding to close, we have enjoyed working with them over the years. Helping each other out, supporting each others customers. As previously mentioned fewer Model Shops around. Found an old Hornby Dealership listing all those which could be found around the UK, amazing to note how many are no longer with us.
  10. Scott, Brilliant models, I do admire the scratch building I see around - just wish I could. Whilst I can handle civil engineering, railway vehicles never seem to turn out correct. As to warping plastic I tend to use Phoenix Precision adhesive, do not seem to have to use as much as some other Brands. Evergreen seems softer and therefore easier to cut, but still use Slaters products - especially their embossed sheets. With regard to cutting plasticard, there are a couple of Models in The Chopper range, these are used by aviation and maritime plastic modellers. Not Cheap - mid £50 Regards Ken

  12. There is also John Dutfield, in Chelmsford, Essex. Around 45 mins on a fast train from London Liverpool Street. Also operate Mail Order, in addition to attending a number of Exhibitions (Royston, Stevenage, Stowmarket, Basildon, Saffron Walden to name just a few).
  13. I am so glad that you enjoyed your day with us - as always good freindly banter. Whilst there were issues - such as a well known supermarket being unable to supply the bread rolls (their ovens went bang Friday night but did not let us know). I wish I had actually had the time to visit all the Stands and see that they were having fun. It was a difficult task that I had set Steve Flint - but I think the new scenic approach behind TWY won the day. So now onto our 41st Exhibition in 2018.... Thanks to all the many Modellers and the Families whom came and saw some really fine layouts and Traders. I would however like to apologise to those that had to endure me wearing shorts all day - but it was not cold and did stop some Drivers in their tracks whilst I attempted to sort out the parking.
  14. I have to say that I have seen Dave with one of his layouts - carried it into the venue before the start of the day, then back to his car at the end. He does have a large visiting Operational Team - some appear to be uncertain until Dave reminds them of this fact. One of our Members purchased one of his fine designs, then promptly added another board.
  15. You can see this layout - and many others - at the 2017 Mid Essex MRC Exhibition, Shenfield High School, Essex on Saturday 16 September 2017. Details can be found in the Exhibition Diary.

  17. Massive Model Railway Show steams into town. You’re invited to make tracks to a model railway show in Maidstone on Saturday 1st April 2017. Up to 15 model railway layouts, along with a number of trade stands, will be on show in a variety of scales from tiny Z gauge to O Gauge.... The exhibition is being supported by clubs and modellers from around the South East, with layouts including: East Dunnet, a cider farm in Somerset. Ville a la Campagne, a quiet French country town. Summer Spring on the New Cut, set on the Norfolk broads, amazing! Cement Works, an industrial scene of a cement works. There’s free parking on-site at the school. There is a small admission. 18. "On the Disposable cups. They probably were disposed of a the end of the day so you can rest easy. There is no harm if these are washed and reusing some of these items. People are far too used to throwing things away after single use." They are not designed to be re-used by different people - they cannot normally withstand hot enough washing water to kill off germs. Then there is the issue of food prep - you do not consume food whilst preparing food for consumption by the Public. Nor do you prepare meat and cheese filling on the same surface or use the same cutlery. Not hearsay, but factual comments made by a visitor who was concerned about cups being collected out of rubbish bins to be re-use etc. But one point no one has asked was Public Liability insurance in place, some venues require that this is in place to protect themselves from any civil action that may occur on their premises. Putting on any exhibition has a steep learning curve, there are people around whom can help - but advice needs to be sought and listened too.
  19. "As far as Health and Safety is concerned, I didn't see anything of obvious concern - but then I wasn't wandering round with a H&S checklist, and I'm not an exhibition manager." Comments were made, for example, around plastic drinking cups - being taken out of refuse bags - washed and the re-used - if true then that is a Health & Safety concern. In addition individuals preparing food, whilst comsuming food were made. Not to mention numerous other Food Safety issues. You mention some Essex exhibitions, but there is also Basildon & Southend to add to the list (perhaps even Romford). I agree that there are not so many around as there were in the past. But then the same could be said about Swapmeets & Boot Fairs, virtually every town & village seemed to play host at one time, but not so today.
  20. Organising Exhibitions - of all sizes - is not always a 'walk in the park'. But it does appear that some do not heed feedback from previous events that they have held. I was concerned at comments I heard from a person whom attended. The Health & Safety of those exhibiting & attending should not be overlooked. But as I was not there I could not comment, but if true then it would be of concern. I would also ask the question Who is Maldon?. Publicity material seen could have led the Public to believe that it was organised - therefore supporting - a local Maldon Club. The local newspaper also called it the largest in the Region? they probably got that information from Maldon.
  21. All 3 versions should now be with local retailers
  22. Advert on Page 106 of Rail Express. Free monthly magazine, will be paid for by adverts or so it appears. There is a special ad rate to start, but their normal rates appear higher than others. Is there room for another magazine, even if provided free. Time will only tell if they can keep up a high standard of content.
  23. There has been a communication to Hornby retailers, setting out various changes to come - as of later this month. It is hoped that Hornby has listened to the smaller retailers, as if more decide to ditch the Brand it could lead to larger outlets deciding to also follow suit. For those readers who may suggest that would never happen - consider the past, a certain brand lost its way with the smaller outlets and vanished almost overnight when others pulled the plug too.
  24. 12/06/16 Update: Singleton Lane (N) is now replaced by Hardwick Road (N). Dan's Dirty Diesels - bespoke builds & resprays - are now also attending. 10/07/2016 Update: Modula Layouts will be with us once again 24/07/2016 Update: Admission Prices Adult £5 Child £3 Singleton Lane has been replaced with Hardwick Lane Trade now includes Kitmaster Club, Poppy's Woodtech & Dan's Dirty Diesels Just a reminder that the FREE Classic bus may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties or using mobility scooters, and is subject to availability of vehicles on the day.
