  3. Posted 55 minutes ago (edited) 1 hour ago, KR Models said: We can't do that due to a sizing issue. Not sure that I follow that ! My model has conventional crankpins covered by resin-cast 'hub caps'; the 'hub caps' would be very easy to injection mould in polystyrene or ABS. They could be supplied as a owner-fitted accessory. John Isherwood. Edited 44 minutes ago by cctransuk I seem to recall some time ago that John posted about the 'hub caps' fitted to his kit built GT3 and mentioned were he had obtained them from. As I can't find the information now, can he enlighten us in the event that KR cannot supply same. Thank you.

  6. I am at a loss to understand why the keyboard warriors / assassins out there, having made their choice not to invest in this project, seem to think that they have a God given right to continue posting negative comments regarding everything KR Models say or do. You are hardly showing any evidence of British fair play and it would seem that you are wishing the project to fail so you can shout out loud 'I told you so'! Will you still be around and big enough to say 'Well done, I got it wrong' when a good model of GT3 arrives next year? Give KR Models a break and keep your non invested comments to yourselves. Your negative attitude will hardly encourage future investors in our hobby.

  8. Regrettably, it is beginning to look like this project will hit the buffers in the next couple of weeks unless a sufficient number of modellers who may be sitting on the fence, sign up their expression of interest with KR Models. Please see statement on Facebook outlining current status. If you want a GT3, now is the time to act. Not next week, next month but NOW. I personably will be very disappointed to see this project fail and miss out on the chance of owning a model of this iconic locomotive.

  10. Has anyone given any thought to or alternatively sourced a supply of limestone suitable to make up loads for these wagons? I never actually saw any of these trains in operation and all the photographs you see of the loaded hoppers suggest that the stone was very white in colour. None of the various types and colours of ballast / gravel etc. currently available seem to be suitable as an alternative.
  11. I know that it is still early days on the (over) weathering issue, but has anyone given any thought yet as to how to remove some of the excessive paint application applied to the hoppers? I have managed to expose some of the ICI lettering on the hopper sides using a very small sharp modellers chisel but failed completely to expose the details on any of the solebar data panels. Can anyone suggest or know of a likely source of steam era number transfers as surely, despite the overall build up of grime on the wagons, the numbers would need to have been readable when despatching and keeping track of their whereabouts. Perhaps we will need to wait and see if Modelmaster Decals / Fox Transfers etc.will introduce ready made up packs in due course. I have run my 12 hopper wagons on the club layout for the last two clubnights and am happy to say that they ran faultleslly.
  12. Wagons are actually very dark brown, not grey, with a limited white wash on the lower hopper sides and bogies. The brown finish which completely covers all the data panels. The wagon numbers can be just seen when closely observed but not from normal running viewing distance. I have tried lifting the weathering covering the number plates but with limited success. The weathering on the ICI lettering can be lightly scraped to reveal a lighter cream / brown appearance which at least gives a small break in the overall blandness of the wagon sides. Be carefull however as the letters are only lightly glued on to the side of the hopper and can flip off quite easily. The interior weathering is much better and in line with the photos that Hattons published when canvassing opinions on the preferred (and subsequently ignored) weathering styles. All in all, we have an Ugly Duckling instead of the Swan we were led to believe we were getting. They do however run well despite their light weight.
  13. An explanation at this time might be a good idea, Hattons Dave.
  14. Along with the correspondents who have already expressed their disappointment at the quality of the weathering finish applied to the ICI Hopper wagons, I too find myself most underwhelmed with same. Having gone to the trouble of canvassing the views of modellers on RM Web and at exhibitions up and down the country and displaying three styles of finish with style two seemingly being by far the most popular, why have we ended up with this very bland fourth rendering. Perhaps style 2 proved to be too difficult to replicate and was never really an option when costs were taken into consideration. As no word came out of Hattons, we probably assumed that because of its popularity, style 2 would be chosen. I can only hope that the wagons look better in the flesh than they appear on the screen.
  15. Hi Mike, Thanks for your suggestion which I will certainly try. However it is the driving wheels on the rear bogie that seem to be de-railing in one direction only. The bogie in question is the one under the speaker assembly and I am wondering if it this that is slightly restricting the movement of the bogie at the top of the gear tower. Will investigate further at my club on Monday.
  16. Has anyone experienced problems with their Bulleid consistently de-railing in one direction while running perfectly in the other over the same piece of track? Mine runs without fault in one direction but when turned round, the rear bogie drops off the track. The back to backs on both bogies are correct. The section of track concerned is at immediately after a base board joint at the start of a long slack curve. There is a very slight undulation in the track but the alignment is smooth. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  17. Whilst I have not yet decided what to do about the roof colour - leave it primrose and weather it or repaint it grey, I have toned down the engine block visible through the centre window and modified the window itself by modelling it in the dropped / open position as was usual on the real locos. I painted the block with a mix of gunmetal with a touch of aluminium to lighten it slightly. After removing the windows, I carefully cut one of them approximately one third / two thirds and smoothed the cut edges with a fine needle file before painting a fine edge to represent the window frame. The windows were re-inserted and lightly glued in place. The unused window has been saved as a spare. The modifications have given 10203 a much more prototypical appearance.
  18. Some of the Woodhead electrics were also given the primrose roof treatment for a while before returning to the familiar grey.
  19. Completed a loaded test run (11 Bachmann Mk1s) at the club tonight which 10203 lifted without any problem, Very smooth, quiet slow running and at all scale speeds with plenty of power in reserve. The only problem encountered was after 30 minutes trouble free running, I turned the loco round to run it in the other way round. For some reason, it showed a tendency for one bogie to de-rail at the same point on the track over which it had previously run perfectly. Turning 10203 round to its original direction of travel, it ran without any problems over the same section of track. Not had chance to check back to back measurement or look for any other possible cause. The primrose roof was certainly a topic of conversation amongst club members. Weathering it down or repainting it grey was about 50 - 50 in comments made.
  20. Received my green 10203 this morning and first impressions leave me most impressed. After admiring the considerable detail on the loco, I test ran it on my rolling road with no issues whatsoever, running smoothly in both directions. Looking forward to doing a loaded test run with a full length train of Mk1s at Rainhill MRC tomorrow night. With the weight of the loco, I am sure that 10203 will have no problems lifting the load. The jury is out however on the primrose roof. I will decide over the next few weeks if I can learn to like/accept it, weather it down a bit or just arrange for a visit to the paint shop to have the later grey colour applied. As it is, the loco certainly adds a dash of colour to the scene dominated with diesels traditionally sporting yellow panels on their nose rather than on their roof! All in all, well done Kernow, it has been worth the wait.
  21. Picked up my Tango 63982 last week from Hattons and was therefore able to request sight and testing of two models. Both locos showed no sign of any damage whatsoever and after test running both decided that there was nothing to choose between the two, settled on the first example. To date, after running in on my rolling road followed by continual running with a twenty five wagon load on the club layout, can declare myself very happy with the loco. I appreciate that I am fortunate in being only 10 minutes drive from Hattons, thus giving me the opportunity to inspect before buying but question if the type of packing used is up to the journey half way around the world to be followed by further journeys either within the UK or across the globe to destinations as far away again.
  22. Unless the ravages of time are playing havoc with my memory, I cannot recall having seen 10203 with such a vivid roof livery. My memory is of a much softer / lighter hade of pale primrose, albeit usually pretty dirty or alternatively the more standard grey. Colour photographs of the loco in service are not that common and do not seem to give a definite answer either way. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

  24. If you are still having derailing problems with your 'Duchess of Atholl', I would seriously recommend you take a look at Silver Sidelines' posting # 1308 and my subsequent posting # 1608 which hopefully will give you a fix for what appears to be an inherent problem with the current Princess Coronation class chassis. The running performance of my 'Sir William Stanier' has been transformed by this simple procedure.
