  1. Congratulations Paul, I also have the 24009 and I like it very much indeed. Apart from the 24009 I have the Br Blue 24035 DCC Sound from Bachmann which is still a nice loco. The underframes of the 24's are very different and also the colour which is plain black with 24035 and some anthracite grey with the 24009.
  2. Nice! How does the 24 haulage compare to the Bacchy versions ? - never had any issues with them in that department.... Bachmann's are also hauling these 12 coaches without any trouble just like the 87035 I think the SLW would do the same but I want to leave the bufferbeam details in place. I ordered my SLW with sound but without "supercap". If the track is reasonable clean it seems to be ok and my Bachmann's don't have supercaps either.
  3. I like this one also very much ! It hauls 12 coaches on a layout that has some inclines.
  4. Thanks Phil ! You have a nice channel too. Compare it with the sound of my Bachmann 24035 (white handrails) and Bachmann 25286 I'd say the 25286 doesn't come far behind the SLW and the 24035 comes third.
  5. I was able to make a video of my 24009 on the layout of my good friend. We still have to sort out all the functions next time because it is a bit overwhelming. I agree it sounds quite good to be honest. Cheers, Jan
  6. Agreed Mike, I will see and hear it running probably this Tuesday (Br Blue 24009). Bachmann loses this battle and indeed my 24035 doesn't look as brilliant as this SLW 24009 although they make pretty good models like their Class 40159 Hornby comes not far behind in detail however with the recent Class 87035 and Lord Nelson. Hornby's 87035 with Legomanbiffo sound was about the same price as my 24009. That sound doubled it more in price but it was justified I think. With Heljan I am a bit wary ........... Greetings, Jan
  7. Thanks Max, I have just emailed Jamie of SLW with this question and pictures. IF it is a mistake SLW can easily send me a correct tank that has the gauges both sides. It will certainly be January but as I said it's not a real big drama.
  8. I have noticed that my 24009 has NO white round fuel gauge on the larger tank on neither side of the loco unlike what the colour drawing shows on their brochure. I can live with (or without) it however I can't imagine they have made a mistake by omitting that gauge :-) My Bachman 24035 does have a gauge on one side.
  9. Thank You Izzy, I thought it not very necessary to explain which one is the Bachmann and which one is the SLW :-) However I will keep the Bachmann because I think it is still an acceptable 24 with an acceptable sound. It was Bachmann's very first 24 with DCC Sound and back then I was quite impressed ! You can watch it here : https://www.youtube.com/user/grootsan/videos I also want to keep the Bachmann as a workhorse for pulling wagons where I'd rather leave all those buffer beam details of my SLW alone. Merry Christmas, Jan
  10. Got mine last Friday. It looks a lot more detailed than my old Bachmann 24035
  11. In that case I presume my 87 should have a sugarcube or a pair of sugarcubes as well, but I will ask Amanda when I speak to her
  12. Hi Mark, I went through my email communication with Amanda and I saw she has mentioned the word "Sugar Cube" speaker. I don't know what kind of speaker that might be and it still isn't sure if such a speaker has been installed in my 87 (see below). If i find out more I will let you know. "I use Model Yard to do my DCC work including not only installing but fully testing and have never had a returned loco once they have worked it. They charge $80 for the work and this would include me supplying them with a Sugar Cube speaker where necessary"
  13. Hi Mark, To be very honest I wouldn't have a clue what speaker has been installed. I could check what speaker is inside by removing the body or have my well-skilled friend Tony to do it. However I am pretty reluctant to remove a body from an unknown brandnew locomotive if it is not really necessary. I have purchased this 87 from AJMRailways (Amanda Jane) and all I have asked her was to have Legomanbiffo sound installed. She has outsourced that job to a company called Model Yard near her business in Yorkshire. Because I have NOT asked Amanda for a specific speaker it may be very well possible that just the standard 23mm speaker has been installed ! If I get in touch with Amanda again I will ask her about the speaker however. Cheers, Jan
  14. No just joking, I still have to see the first diesel with a pantograph And I think for an electric loco the sound is pretty all right !
  15. I got my 87035 with Legomanbiffo sound 10 days ago. For a diesel it sounds pretty poor
