About Me
I mainly model the late LMS / early British Railways period in 2mm Finescale.
A layout based around Healey Dell viaduct and Broadley station on the Rochdale to Bacup branch is (still!) in the planning stages.
I seem to spend most of my modelling time at the moment building locomotives.
Locomotive Projects I am currently working on:
Complete and a the final detailing/painting stage:
- Hunslet 16" 0-6-0ST (from reduced Judith Edge Kits etches) - construction thread
- LMS 0-6-0 Diesel shunter (from the 2mm Scale Association kit) - Featured in Model Railway Journal 278 / 279
-
ex-LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 (PECO body with replacement etched Nigel Hunt chassis)
- Thread discussing building the chassis
- Tutorial videos on YouTube - winner of the 2mm Association Geoff Balfour Memorial Award 2019
- Another LMS Jubilee - this time a conversion of the Graham Farish model
- ex-LMS Princess Royal 4-6-2 (from the Nigel Hunt Kit) - Currently in the paint shop (see below)
Under Construction at an early stage:
- ex-LNWR "Cauliflower" 0-6-0 (from shot-down London Road Models kit)
- ex-L&Y large-boilered 0-8-0 (from Nigel Hunt kit)

An almost complete Fowler 2-6-4T toys with an almost complete Catfish wagon...
A Selection of wagons built from kits from various sources and utilising components from the 2mm Association range.
This Shock absorbing wagon was written up in the October 2011 2mm Magazine. The plastic body is originally from Mill Lane Sidings, and the underframe from parts of several Association kits with added detailing.
This BR Plate wagon is a Stephen Harris kit:
A Gannet ballast hopper from the Kestrel brass release of the shot-down Falcon "Pocket Money Kit"... a swine to build!
Sturgeon A - Another Stephen Harris kit:
Another Plate - this time an LMS design on ex WW1 underframe. It has its origins in a kit that was never marketed. Read about it in the Feb 2020 2mm Magazine,
2mm Association plastic BR van body kits, mounted on etched underframes:
One of the first 2mm wagons I built. The body is a grossly over-scale (even for 1:148) N Gauge society kit on an Association etched chassis:
2mm Association "mixed media" kit from around the time I joined the association.
BR All-steel High is another of Stephen Harris' wonderful kits:
More 2mm Association plastic bodied kits - another BR 1/208 van and an ex-LMS cattle wagon - complete with passengers:
My latest wagon, a Midland Deep Case truck. Bruce Cook designed the etched kit simply because I suggested to him that it couldn't be done! The story behind it appears in the current (April 2024) 2mm Magazine:
