  1. The article below by the Dawlish Beach Cam website is well worth a read https://www.dawlishbeach.com/2018/05/the-dawlish-myth/ In particular, they point out what so many forget, that the route to Torbay and Cornwall is closed far more frequently due to flooding between Taunton and Exeter. The Okehampton supporters also conveniently forget this, as it would also block that route, and also that heavy snow would frequently block the Okehampton route if it was ever opened. If you cannot be bothered to have a ready of it, how many times would you think that the sea wall has been breached in the 172 years it has been there? Would you believe only five times! Yes, the 2014 event was the most serious, but it failed in a way that could not happen again because of the work that was done. Hong Kong Airport is also mentioned, which I was staggered to see when I went, as it is just built in the sea! On one of the dolphin watch trips where you go quite a long way out into the sea you could see them building an access road which must be miles long, on a bridge, over the open sea, which then dives down through a man-made island into a tunnel before emerging onto another man-made island and continuing on another bridge! You can pretty much solve any problem as long as you have the will to do so and the finance available. Both of these are usually problems in this country, where we are happy to spend millions avoiding what actually needs to be done instead of just getting on with it.
  2. A close up of the doors of 48101 and 48102 at Truro today on the first working into Cornwall of the 4 Car HST Set
  3. For information, see how this evacuation at Bedford is achieved. In particular, note how may staff are required to line the safe route to ensure nobody strays from safety, and this is in daylight and good weather!
  4. An interesting take on it by one of the stranded passengers http://buzzsteam.com/2018/03/04/southeastern-commuter-train-stuck-at-lewisham/ There is some contradiction - if the trains were so jam packed how were people also able to move about? Also interesting to note the Driver wanted to evacuate but was overruled by Control. Also clear things were being tried to get things moving again, but they probably spent far too long making these attempts instead of organising the evacuation.
  5. The price of the Class 90 has not jumped, nor has the price of the crane jumped! Bachmann have never given a price for them, the only reason people keep thinking these prices have jumped is because of the Hatton's "estimate" prices.
  6. Massive roof ribs on Mk1s were done away with a few years ago...
  7. Habrough Junction to Ulceby and also Marsh Junction into Immingham have to be up there too?
  8. A check of the Bachmann site shows VAA and VDA vans scheduled for later this year with an RRP of £24.95 or £25.95. Around 10% is the usual Bachmann mark-up for limited editions, making around £30 the top rate for one of these. The text on their site is wonderful! A free half-price additional barrier wagon?! 9. Really enjoying these images so far - may have to add some of my own if that is OK? The tour you have photographed was on 11th April 1992 and was organised by BR. It ran Sheffield - Swinton - Mexborough - Hexthorpe Jn - Bentley Jn - Scunthorpe - Barnetby - Grimsby Town - Cleethorpes and return, featuring 58 026 and 58 039 named "Rugeley Power Station". The return journey was hauled by 56 095 and 56 080. It was called the "Gainsborough Bridge 213 Special" although I cannot for the life of me remember why now, especially as it did not even go that way! I went because I needed the Doncaster avoiding line. This was the second time that 58 039 had visited Cleethorpes on a railtour. On 20th September 1986 Hertfordshire Railtours organized a tour from King's Cross to Skegness and Cleethorpes behind 58039. 1G20 "Lincolnshire Coast Pullman" ran as follows: London Kings Cross - Stevenage - Peterborough - Grantham - Barkston South Jn - Barkston East Jn - Sleaford - Boston - Skegness (R/R) Skegness - Boston - Sleaford - Sleaford South Jn - Sleaford North Jn - Lincoln Central - Gainsborough Lea Road - Doncaster - Carcroft Jn - Skellow Jn - Stainforth and Hatfield - Scunthorpe - Barnetby - Grimsby - Cleethorpes (R/R) Cleethorpes - Grimsby - Barnetby - Scunthorpe - Stainforth and Hatfield - Stainforth Jn - Bentley Jn - Hexthorpe Jn - Mexborough - Rotherham - Treeton North Jn - Catcliffe Jn - Shepcote Lane Jn - Attercliffe Jn - Darnall - Woodhouse - Worksop - Whisker Hill Jn - Retford - Newark - Peterborough - Stevenage - London Kings Cross

  13. Here they are passing Dolcoath, with some very large shiny GWR branding applied! Not so obvious from these shots, but no doubt someone further along the line will have a more side-on view. I was not expecting any branding to have been applied or might have made more of an effort to get to Penzance instead of watching Ireland thrash Canada!
  14. I am fairly certain that sign is for Depot Protection and nothing to do with the status of the locos. No doubt Paul will confirm in due course.

  16. It may have changed, but Hornsea used to cover Farringdon - Bedford
  17. Given Kernow only announced the price, liveries and running numbers in 2010, what exactly do you think you ordered in 2008? I would be amazed they managed to take an order from you before they knew what they announced in 2010?
  18. The full announcement is actually on this very site http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/16448-kernow-model-rail-centre-confirm-warship-versions/ Very interesting to look back at what the expectations were at that time and I have no doubt that Kernow are as keen to make up for all that lost time as we are keen to see the models.
  19. Apologies if it was announced before, but there is no way you placed an order in 2008 - orders were only taken from June 2010 Welcome to our newsletter - 9th June 2010 D6xx Warship Special Edition OO Gauge News We are pleased to announce that we are now taking orders for our D6xx OO Gauge Warship model. Our Beattie Well Tank and Class 205 Thumper models were laser scanned which saved a considerable amount of time and resulted in them overtaking the D6xx Warship in the development process. With no preserved prototype available the D6xx Warship model has taken longer to develop than we had hoped, but working from original drawings and other reference sources the CAD-CAMS are being produced and will be available shortly.
  20. Wrong. It was June 2010. It was announced with Dapol as the manufacturer, then in August 2014 it was moved to DJModels after Kernow found that Dapol had done no work on it at all, so effectively that was a new announcement, after which the first CADs were shown at Warley in November, just 3 months later. In the run up to August 2014 Kernow had shown various updates with progress on the master model that was being made due to the lack of drawings. Of course, you can ignore all these updates and just keep banging the drum about how there has been a lack of updates! I don't understand how having a message saying "there have been no updates" is any more helpful than just not saying anything except when there is an update?
  21. LU150 explains the 150 unit in the advert warning of the announcement as well -
  22. No - it also says "Please ignore the automatically-generated stock message - this model is not yet available! See further information about this model at http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/109/Adams_O2_Steam_Locomotive"
  23. A tiny quantity of R3115 West Country Exeter has arrived with Sanda Kan labels...
