  1. J12893 (Tues 22nd, 17:15) - what line is the steam train in the trees in the background on? C20942 - an interesting take on NSE livery?
  2. Is this image reversed? The signal arms are sticking out the wrong way and the coil train looks bang road to me...
  3. That road wasn't used at all during the Lockdowns?
  4. There are others - St. Pancras, Kings Cross, Bristol Temple Meads and Brighton come to mind...
  5. Platform 1 was a bit short in those days! EDIT: ...and (potentially) mobile. What are they storing in there that would warrant the use of a 'Shocvan'?
  6. Re. the CP 'Golden Beaver', from my observations it appears that only certain classes have the emblem applied, viz. GP38AC, SD70ACu (also in their previous SD9043MAC incarnation), and AC44CW (carried through to the rebuilt -M). The GP38-2 and ES44AC classes do not have it.
  7. Canadian Pacific have resumed rebuilding their GE AC4400CW units into AC4400CWMs - 7 of them on their delivery run through Santa Fe Jct, Kansas City, MO at 13:55 in this video. A good mix of other units, BNSF, CSX and KCS, along with a sorry looking CP ES44AC, 9363...
  8. There's one too many digits? I thought Departmental numbers were 6 digits, not 7...
  9. I've seen several viaducts with a wider pillar every 5 or 6 arches. Ribblehead is one such, and has 24 arches, with a wider pillar every 6 arches. The theory is that if one arch collapses, it will only take out at most the other 5 in the section, rather than the whole thing...
  10. The Up side platform 'shelter' was of no use to man nor beast...
  11. I remember when I first started work at Rolls in the mid-70s at clocking off time, the whole length of the south side Gypsy Patch Lane (away from the railway bridge) being full of buses to various destinations in Bristol. The bus depot area in the video looked like the area at the other end of the factory in the Gloucester Road, looking towards Filton.
  12. From a quick look back through, they were all GE 4400hp units, either ES44AC, ET44AC or AC4400CW types
  13. Trams in Bristol were stopped after a bomb cut the main electrical feed cable during a raid in WWII. It was only a matter of time, though, before they would have been withdrawn as they had been being run down for several years previous. The power cut gave them a convenient excuse to finally get rid of them.
  14. 18000ft = 3.41 miles - 9 locos, 39,600 to 40,500hp, depending on make/model and power unit fitted...
  15. This comes up with all the inevitability of an unwanted relative, usually around election times. It's usually quietly forgotten about (by the candidates) after said elections; the electorate usually have the alleged memory retention of a goldfish...
  16. Caption needs changing - none of them are looking at the 'Wessie', but at something in the direction of the photographer...
  17. J2922 - for once, there will be no discussion on the identity of the Deltic...
  18. IIRC the Rail company parked the loco in the city square to provide emergency power. The city then had the gall to complain about the damage to the road when they drove the loco back to the railhead after they'd finished with it...
  19. Close encounter at 45:00 in this video... EDIT: Also a pedestrian with a few bits loose in the sense department at 21:58...
  20. Back to level crossings, and Revelstoke had a day of slow running as a large MOW (Maintenance of Way) hi-rail vehicle managed to reverse into one of the crossing signal posts, neatly snapping it off at ground level, and putting the crossing out of action. All trains warned and flagged across at walking pace. Accident happened at 08:34PST, last Signal Technician vehicle cleared the site at 20:39PST, having had to completely replace the crossing post, and while they were at it, upgrading the arm on the post the other side...
  21. Google Maps is your friend here... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.446257,-2.6197332,293m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en The concrete road curving round and over the river bridge is the (mis-)guided busway. The railway is planning on terminating in the shadows between 'A Bond[ed] Warehouse' and the busway, last time I spoke to my friend who has an interest in it.
