  1. Not sure if this has been posted before, found on another forum under the Darwin Awards thread! :-) Delivery driver antics
  2. Silverfox17, a couple of years ago I was gifted some boxes of various models which would otherwise have ended up in a skip. Among the items were some lengths of grey track as shown in the pic, ( R93 x 3, R96 x 6, R102 x 1, R106 x8, R107 x 1). I doubt that I will ever use them, so if these would be of any interest to you, please message me.
  3. This has reminded me of an incident from my youth. I grew up on the Dee estuary in North Wales, and some of the LMS lines to the west of Holywell Junction were used for stock storage in the offpeak season. My dad was a retained fireman and was called out to a major blaze at one of the stored rakes of coaches. The pic reminded me that there were a few greenhouses and cold-frames with those windows and a maroon paint finish on our estate after that! :-)
  4. While sorting in my garage today, looking for something else, came across this Jinty. I think I picked it up at a Frome show a few years ago, I think I haggled the price down a bit! Body is distorted and pick-ups a bit dodgy but it does run, and not as slow and jerky as expected. Inspired by this thread, now pondering on the possibilities, thinking about an industrial diesel perhaps.
  5. Nice pics, Jim. One thing puzzled me, as I have driven the A835 many a time on the way to Ullapool for the ferry, and I couldn't recall a rock shelter on that route. I think you may mean this one on the A890 between Attadale and Stromeferry. Excellent pics anyway, enjoyed seeing the scenery and looking forward to a trip to Lossiemouth the week after next. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Scotland.
  6. Many thanks for the replies. I do not have any information regarding the provenance of the photo, if anything comes to light I will post it here. It is a shame the plate on the cab is not legible, and that no number is carried. Thanks again.
  7. This photo of an unidentified locomotive appeared recently in our local free paper. It is believed to have been taken at Westbury Ironworks, but there is no further information. I think it has some features of a Hawthorn-Leslie machine, but any help in identifying it would be appreciated.
  8. Can I add my thanks for this tip. A package of three units arrived today. Not sure yet what will become of them, although one may be the power unit for a freelance version of a LNWR railmotor. Will be something to do during my self-isolation. :-)
  9. Many thanks for all the replies, all very interesting information. I will relay that back to the other forum. Cheers.
  10. This pic of Flint Dock in 1928 was posted to another forum I frequent. Shame that the loco is hidden by the van body in the foreground. I'm guessing that it may be a Fowler or Ruston 0-4-0. Any other candidates?
  11. Not in either of the Bristol or Bath Hobbycraft stores . :-(
  12. This was in the link in the original post. " Two “malicious obstructions” were left on tracks near Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, on 21 March and at Netherfield, Nottinghamshire, on 27 March. They bore the slogans “Government betrayal. Leave means leave” and “We will bring this country to its knees if we don’t leave”, which were printed, not handwritten."
  13. I know it's the Grauniad reporting, but this is a worrying development if it spreads. "Two devices left on rail lines in suspected pro-Brexit sabotage plot Police investigate ‘malicious obstructions’ that were meant to disrupt train service"
  14. Very elaborate though.. Go-Op have been plugging it for a few years now. :-)
  15. The latest issue of our local freebie paper carried this story which has been on and off the cards for a few years. The final line of the extract below is ironic given the recent re-modelling of the station. "Rail travel in Westbury could get a boost from a new train operator proposing a significant addition to the rail timetable from summer 2020. The proposal from GO-OP – an independent co-operative society – will bring an additional six services a day to the town The service will connect Westbury to the West Midlands, with the service going as far as Nuneaton, via Oxford, Leamington Spa and Coventry. The service will also offer additional connections to Somerset, stopping in places like Frome, Castle Cary, Taunton and Yeovil. Alex Lawrie, the operations director and a founder member of GO-OP, told White Horse News, “This will make Westbury a real hub for interchange and puts the station in a very interesting position – it may mean more investment in the station as it is currently only a three-platform station. " Full article here
  16. Thanks for the help. but I think my Firefox may be out of date, the Privacy and Security are separate tabs, none of which has a permissions option. The Contents tab has a Notifications option which includes Do Not Disturb, but that only applies to the current session and is reset on restart.
  17. Using Firefox on the desktop and laptop, currently, Silk on the tablet.
  18. I have tried that, unchecked a few boxes but still the same. Never said it was any better, just my personal preference. If pushed, I would say that referring to a number, seems easier than dragging a possibly large chunk of test into a new post ( yes, it can be avoided by using display text) but seems more involved somehow. Just me being a Luddite , I guess. It's getting late, so each to his own. :-)
  19. That 's the point, no matter how many times it is clicked, it keeps re-appearing. I'm no expert, but I think that is a function of the forum software. On other forums I frequent, deleted or hidden posts do not change the post numbers, it is obvious where there are gaps in the sequence. Cheers, Phil
  20. Have trawled through all 20 pages of this thread and have not spotted a response to the query from MJI , back on page 1. This pop-up in the top left happens to me on every page and is most annoying. Stiil trying to get used to the new format, and will have to agree to disagree about post numbers.
  21. Todays morning traffic reports were advising of 30 minute delays on the local rail network due to a points failure at Westbury station. Just saying ...
  22. Hats off to this part of the orange army busy at Westbury Station this New Years Eve morning. Happy New Year to them and all forum members.
  23. Had to wander down to the Royal Mail delivery office today, which took me over the Station road overbridge, so had a little shufti at what was going on at Westbury station. First the layout as it was (pics from March 2008) Looking North Looking South Today, with the orange army out in force, looking North Looking South Seems to be purely renewal work with no sign of the old platform 1 being re-instated, and certainly no bridge replacement, though it's long overdue, this is the remains of the makers plate from 1899, which reflects the current state of the whole structure. I like all the solar powered floodlights though. :-) Anyway, hats off to the orange army, a very Happy New Year to them and all forum members.
  24. Moving further away from industrial models, I have now sorted the rest of the box, and together with some Standard Triang track ( R106 x8, R96 x6, R93 x3, R107x 1, R102 x1), this is what is left. Top left seems to be a Triang? Albert Hall body with the nameplate removed, second from bottom on the left is an Airfix Schools class I think. Not sure if I have matched the correct tenders to the second left and bottom left locos. Top right is a battered Triang coach, underneath that a wheelless tender body, and three scratchbuilt tender bodies, on the bottom right cab and jib from the Airfix Booth Rodley crane kit I think. Motor bogie less wheels and pinion, and wagon underframe, perhaps from a tank wagon.
