  1. Sounds like the Peter Principle! - a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "level of incompetence". In other words, an employee is promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another. Although in the DJModels scenario, the promotion to a level of incompetence is replaced by an ultimately unsuccessful move into self-employment!
  2. As with the J94, I can’t see any CAD of the mechanism for the 14XX in the images on the IPO website ... https://www.registered-design.service.gov.uk/find/6043484
  3. As both OO and N gauge Class 92s were registered as IPs by Dave on 9th September 2018, lawsuits would seem to be a real possibility if DJModels serves a “cease and desist” letter on the 2 other manufacturers concerned ...
  4. The one thing that the CAD of the J94 that I looked at doesn’t show is the mechanism!
  5. 100% agree - it's in DJ Model's interests to present the look of a professional outfit (however small) and talk of slander and libel really doesn't help. Again, 100% agree - not just in terms of the tone of press releases, but also for general proof-reading: sadly, the spelling and sloppiness of wording in some of the product newsletters that I've read again doesn't help to project the image of a professional concern.

  8. With 4 and a half years since announcement in July 2014, and zero announced progress to date, I would be surprised to hear or read of any change - much to my sadness as this was for me the most exciting of Dave's announcements!
  9. If they're due here in a few weeks - Andy's post says that the first 3 variations will be in the shops in February and the other 3 in April - it certainly won't be Hornby pulling out, they must be nearly on a ship by now!

  11. With the greatest respect to Les1952, this is the sort of factual feedback (not hearsay) that has put me off. Other well-established modellers, whose opinions I respect, have offered similar feedback in other threads. I await future updates from Dave at DJModels, and reviews on the running of the newly tooled models with great interest, and will be delighted if the running quality issues are sorted, as several of Dave’s new items are on my wish lists.
  12. Given the feedback on the "cogging" and other associated running problems with the 14xx and Austerity that are frequently mentioned on RMWeb, I'm afraid this would be my approach too, much as I would like to support a new manufacturer.
  13. Think the TTS vent van is a really interesting, and reasonably priced, idea - looking forward to getting one and to seeing future ideas from Hornby to take this forward. Might encourage some people who are put off by price of sound decoders to give things a go.
  14. It is a shame that a factory error led to it being to a non-standard scale, but to be fair to Oxford, they have not claimed that it is 1:76 scale - it has a “SP...” rather than a “76...” product code, showing it to be one of their non-scale products. I am gutted that it’s not 1:76, and share your hope that a 1:76 scale one comes along eventually...
  15. Thank you for posting Jenny, found your video very helpful.

  17. Not too much of a tumble in historical terms - one year ago the share price was 28.95p, today it's 24.00 (a 17% decline on a year ago). The big decline happened a long time ago - from peaks of 282.58 on the 26th January 2007, or a more recent peak of 100.52p on 21st August 2015. From 2007 peak to now, the decline is 85%.
  18. Would get through the orders even faster if they sent the correct version out first time - just made a trip to the Post Office to send the (beautiful) incorrect version back that arrived with me today! They do look stunning though.
  19. Posted this morning on Heljan's Facebook page: Lynton & Barnstaple 2-6-2T update Due to ongoing problems with the vendor currently producing the L&B model we have taken the decision to move production to another vendor. Clearly this has implications in terms of cost for us and the production schedule but we feel the decision is the right one. We will make every effort to maintain the end price to you. Some new tooling will be produced and this will lead to a revised delivery date of late 1Q 2018 and the complete shipment will arrive at the same time and not in many small shipments. Please bear with us at this time, we believe the end result will be worth the wait.
  20. Hi Mark, You're absolutely right - waiting for "perfection" in most things would mean a very long wait! We all therefore have to make an individual decision on where we draw the line - for some this may be over-sized splashers, wash-out plugs obscured by handrails etc. Neither of these issues would stop me buying something that fitted my layout's era, for me, however, the line is one where locos wired "backwards" aren't picked up in the QC process before they leave the factory!
  21. Have cancelled my order for sound-fitted Janus - Oxford's Quality Control really needs to up their game. I was looking forward to Oxford's plans for model railways as I have been a fan and purchaser of their 1:76 die-cast for many years, but it does appear from posts on RMWeb that they have not realised the added complexity of locomotives sufficiently.
  22. Midland Metro Alliance Latest News 6th February 2017: Wednesbury To Brierley Hill Project Update http://www.metroalliance.co.uk/wednesbury-to-brierley-hill-project-update-6th-february-2017/ The initial work to clear the overgrown section of the disused railway line on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill route is now complete. The clearing works took place in order to allow for the next step, a number of detailed structural and environmental surveys to be carried out. As expected on a disused railway line, the vegetation removal has revealed a large amount of detritus and debris, as well as many uncovered manholes and drains. The manholes and drains have temporarily been made safe, but people are reminded that as the site is an active construction site and therefore not accessible to members of the public. Below are a number of ‘before and after’ pictures that show the work that the MMA has done to date in order clear this route. 23. Metro work to begin on the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Route Latest news on the Midland Metro Alliance website: http://www.metroalliance.co.uk/metro-work-to-begin-on-the-wednesbury-to-brierley-hill-route/ Work to progress the proposed extension of the Midland Metro from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill is due to commence this week. The Midland Metro Alliance (MMA), working on behalf of West Midlands Combined Authority, will begin to clear vegetation from overgrown areas of the disused former South Staffordshire Railway line in order to carry out comprehensive structural and environmental surveys. It is anticipated that the construction of the route will begin during 2019 and that the route will open for passenger service in 2023. The vegetation clearance process should take approximately two weeks and any disruption will be minimised where possible. All residents and businesses who may be directly affected by the works have been informed that the works are taking place. For further information, please visit the Midland Metro Alliance website: www.metroalliance.co.uk or email: communications@metroalliance.co.uk. Councillor Roger Lawrence, lead member for transport for the West Midlands Combined Authority, said: “Whilst this is not the formal start of work on the extension it is the first step towards it. There is a lot of work still to be done but once it is complete the Black Country and wider region will reap the economic rewards of having an extended modern tram system running through it.” Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise for Dudley Council, said: “We’ve been working hard with partners to make this project happen as we are set to benefit significantly when the Metro rolls in. The improved transport links will create huge opportunities for jobs and tourism in the area. Therefore it’s great to see the project moving in the right direction and a commitment from all involved.” Alejandro Moreno, Midland Metro Alliance Director, said: “We are very excited to begin work on this key route but before we can begin construction, we do need to carry out some preparatory work in order to decide what further works are required to prepare for construction.” Stuart Everton, Black Country Director of Transport, added: “The start of construction of the line between Wednesbury and Brierley Hill is excellent news for the local economy, and will provide a significant boost to our regeneration plans for the region. It will also provide benefits to residents across the region by making it easier for them to get to jobs, and the national and international rail network.”
