  1. Thanks for all the above replies. (I have no books on the Caledonian Railway.) So that's all very helpful.
  2. No sure about that. Doesn't explain why only one front lamp iron.😉
  3. Cracking on bit with the Cardean loco. What I'm finding a bit odd with this particular prototype is there are no photos of in service with no lamp irons on the footplate, just the one in front of the chimney. Also no vac pipes on the front.
  4. Christmas greetings to you. And a very prosperous new year too.
  5. After a short break it's back to the Cardean loco. Not been going to well on the loco body so far. Making clearances for the large driving wheels was the problem. The instructions were not wrong when saying a lot of chopping away of the boiler and splashers were needed.
  6. Hi Ian. That photo does like like you said. Thing is the kit instructions say the compensating beams are attached to the tender frames. The bogies only have the axle boxes attached. There was virtually no swing for the bogies. So I made the bogies a little narrower to allow enough swing to comfortable traverse a Peco cross over. I think I have the axle box problem figured. That will be the last items to fit during the painting stage.
  7. Here we go on another headscratcher. This time a Mercian Caledonian 4-6-0, McIntosh 903 name of Cardean. (An ex Sanspareil with an admitted limited amount of reworking.) Looking at the axle boxes, somehow they have to fit on the bogies. I have already had to do some alterations on the actual bogies to get this far.
  8. That's the David Andrews Churchward 47xx finished and ready for delivery. Been a bit on the tricky side of some areas to build need a fair few of photos to sort it out. Got there in the end.
  9. The bottom of the boiler is parallel with the footplate and level with the splasher tops. Being cone shaped and the camera angle makes look slightly off.
  10. It's almost done now. The cab is the most work now. Then remaining pipe work and boiler parts before the big cleanup and priming.
  11. Body work has now the worse done with. It's all done mainly to the detailing now.
  12. Kicking of today with yesterdays efforts on the bodywork. I had to modify the cylinders snifter valves, they were sitting too high causing them to prevent the footplate to sit down on the chassis.
  13. That's the chassis almost done, there is still a number of things to attach as yet. Now turning to the body. Hope it's going to be no more difficult as the tender was.
  14. That's the loco chassis under way. Quite a bit different to the 6 coupled ones as one set of drivers are in the way .You will see what I mean in due course. I'm pleased the the chassis ran very smooth with no problems.
  15. Quite correct, many of them are available as Gladiator kits. But not all of the David Andrews kits.
  16. Thanks Steve. Yes, it is a pity they are not readily available. The tender is now ready for priming.
  17. The tender is now well underway. A few more things to add then ready for the primer. A lot of details on this Collet tender.
  18. Next on the WB is a David Andrews 47xx class Kit. This will be a delight to build I think. Starting with the tender chassis, no problems here.
  19. Things are getting back to normal now my better half is back home. Got the J35 all ready for off. Fitting the half round beading to the tender tail sides was a bit fiddly but looks much better for it.
  20. Thanks for the wishes Ian. The J35 is very similar to a J36 as you may know. I think Jim's J36 is a much better kit to build. I do enjoy building his kits, simple no fuss kits look good when built.
  21. Another slow build. Time it's because my other half on Friday was rushed into Bangor Hospital due to her gallbladder blockage. Looks like she may have to have it removed when they get the track blockage cleared. Anyway she's being looked after well and the ambulance arrived quickly too. Anyway it's onwards with the J35. Took some time to get it all squared up for soldering together. I think that's maybe the worst over with on it.
  22. A couple of days work to get this far on the chassis. Found some half round wire, so will attempt add that to the tender coal rails. Here's the loco chassis so far.
