  1. Hi All, Not sure if this question has been asked before. I have asked this question on some of the groups on Facebook and im getting conflicting replies. So here goes, Im not short of space in my loft and in the throws of building my layout to about 24ft x 10 ft. Now at what length woulf people be building their platforms. I have had replies of 3,4,5 and 6ft. I would like maybe at some point be able to run a loco in with poss 4 coaches. What would you suggest. Thanks in advance.

If you’re looking for a bargain basement option you could have a stab at modifying some cheap figures!

I did an office fire alarm evacuation scene on Worthing MRC’s Loftus Road a few years back using those cheap unpainted Chinese 1:75 figures you can buy on eBay for a pound or two a pack!

Starting off with the unpainted figures, suitable examples were picked and Blu Tak helmets made up, and for those with breathing apparatus, a piece of cocktail stick was fashioned for each to wear!

Next, they were painted into the older LFB black uniform (rather than the newer wine colour!) very carefully with tiny ‘00000’ paintbrush!

I did a team of 5, and positioned them on scene, here some can be seen with their fire appliance, an Oxford model I’ve bodged with sides cut out and some equipment made up from offcuts of plastic (and more Blu Tak!) and then just painted up!

Finally our assembled workers at the evacuation point await their return to the workplace once the all-clear is given!

Painting all the figures from the cheap Chinese ones was quite fun and the whole scene literally cost less than a couple of pounds to do!

Here’s our thread with some more detail, the postings were about 2015 if I recall correctly!

This may be the last option i think, Have hundreds of figuers so will give it  a a try. Cheers.

    Cheers,

    Jameso
