I've enjoyed model railways since I got my Hornby Dublo 3 rail N2 with two wagons and a brake van for Christmash 1957. This developed into a 6' x 5' table layout in the living room. In the 1970's the loft was converted and I moved to 2 rail with a layout 19' x 10'.

I joined the Ulster Model Railway Club in 1968 in Roseland Place, Belfast and remained a member until I moved to Cork in 1998.

Myself and four friends set up Model Irish Railways in the early 1980s to supply 4mm kits, paints and transfers for NIR and Irish Rail prototypes.

I have also worked in Northern Ireland Railways from 1976 to 1992 in the Secretariat and Operations Divisions.

I have recently moved house so my layout is in storage. I am currently preparing a shed for the railway.

  1. Roy Cross, whose incredible artwork adorned the lids of many, many Airfix model kits, celebrates his 100th birthday today, the 23rd of April. A man whose art was responsible for so many of us parting with our hard earned pocket money as we scoured the model shop for a kit that took our fancy! Happy 100th birthday, and thanks for the brilliant childhood memories Mr. Cross!
  2. Maybe not visually looking like a model, but here is a prototype track cleaning vehicle. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/zZ1PFXXcCTKKRf6T/
  3. BoD I thought Clockman was referring to the arrangement where a relay is energised then one of its own set of contacts maintains the energy to the coil. Such an arrangement requires a current through the coil. The interruption of that current by pressing a normally closed push button then switches the relay off. Are you referring to some kind of mechanical latching? How is such a relay then switched off?
  4. A latching relay requires a constant current which the cdu won't give. I suppose it would work with a twin coil relay of some sort using a second supply to keep it latched.
  5. I have found that hanging up works for me, though I can't tell if they actually stop. 😀
  6. Agree. I cancelled my prepaid order for Bellerophon due to it being clear that it did not have the fully operating valve gear. KR Models refunded in full with no quibble. After I got the refund they asked why I had cancelled and I told them it was the valve gear issue.
  7. This could be an advantage if you can't find the receipt. 😉 Or you can buy and pay on line and have full proof of purchase with details.
  8. WOW, they seem to have got under your skin lol 😉 By the way, What are Faceache and Tatbay? If you meant Facebook and Ebay, but could not bring yourself to use the proper names, then how can I place any confidence in your comments about what you describe as "gene puddle bottom feeders" or "social media gene puddle slime"? Your post reads like some of the worst rants on the social media you appear to loath. Please don't misuse the Irish slang "gouger" It's inappropriate here. "What is a gouger in Irish slang? / (ˈɡaʊdʒə) / noun. a person or tool that gouges. Irish dialect a low-class city lout." .
  9. Irish customs are very fussy about the correct documentation. I purchased an item from Canada about a year ago. It arrived in Dublin then was returned because of incomplete documentation. (I'm not saying this is the case with your coaches). It took months to get back to the sender.
  10. I thought the "No politics" rule was still in place.
  11. My dear friendly. You are much lucky customer since I has been experting DCC for years a lot. At starting please removing the wonder scale body of famously locomotive then next following be wiring the DCC minding all connect correctly orientated. Have much enjoying.
  12. I checked the feedback of the person selling the Murphy Models locomotives. Every feedback refers to the dame item number which I found very odd. I asked the seller and this is the reply.
  13. There are currently 32 Murphy Models class 121 locos on e bay, all brand new and all from China. However these were all sold out ages ago and command high prices on e bay, but the Chineese ones are all around €184.
  14. Thank you for the warning. What's your Ebay username?
