  1. Graham, Great to see the track going down and the layout taking shape. I'm looking forward to when you install the flat crossing at Bog Jcn. Will I have to wait long? Also what couplings will you be using? You said a few post ago that your freight stock on Shap is all 3 link. Are you sticking with those on here? John
  2. Graham, Any chance we can hear more about the bridge of the Starship Enterprise please? Clearly a lot of thought has gone into putting on a very enjoyable show. John
  3. Just trying to get my bearings. is this train heading up the bank? Great photo btw. More of these please.
  4. Maybe they only propelled out onto the Down Main if there was traffic due on the up main or as in the case of the collision they had some empties for the colliery?
  5. Does anyone know what the light grey wagons are?
  6. Mike. If the procedure was to pull the loaded train out onto the up main then the collision would never have happened. The collision report said it was pulled out onto the down main. That said, this photo does look like the train is heading out onto the up main. I wish @Bri.dolan’s uncle had taken this a few seconds later!! Then we may have known for definite.
  7. Mike Have you seen the chimney on the track cabin?
  8. Mike Looking on Flickr, both 5 & 14 signals were elevated discs in March / April 1970. John
  9. James Great to see all this stuff making progress. When modelling takes a back seat at your house your still doing a lot more than me at the moment. hopefully that should change soon. Can i ask at about your extended Esso tank wagons, how are you cutting up the tanks to extend them? Is there a specific way of doing it to keep the bands etc in the right place or is it easier than that? Also,do you need to do anything to the chassis and under frame or do they stay as is? John
  10. Some great photos and some great places to think about visiting. You didn't fancy skiing back down??
  11. Mike I also think i know why there wasn't a ground signal facing the other way. I think its to do with the collision risk, additional interlocking costs, and the position of both 28 and 29 signal. I tried to write it in a response but gave up. It's probably better if I try and explain next time I see you. John
  12. Mike No19 Yellow disc had me puzzled for some time but it’s quite simple really. The basic principle of a yellow disc is that it can be passed when it is ‘on’ if the route taken is not towards the main line. At Wentworth Junction there were two routes that could be taken from No 19. Firstly straight on towards 14 and 15 signal ( colliery branch and banker siding), and secondly out on to the down main. Based on this I think 19 disc would only be cleared for a train going out onto the main line. Hope this makes sense. John
  13. Boring to some and fascinating to others. Section switching and interlocking (I'm hoping) is fine with me. Look forward to hearing all about it. John
  14. Graham Is it possible to handover from one controller to another without stopping the train? Is it as simple as connecting two different controllers to the same piece of track or is there a bit more too it? John
  15. Great to see the layout again this weekend and good to catch up with Mike. Lots of progress made and plenty more to do but not sure that matters when you get to watch things like this........ Keep up the good work Mike. John
  16. Will come along and say hello. looking forward to it.
  17. Mike, This is great to see the layout coming to life with the addition of the buildings. What have you added to the top of the water tower and I can see you have also built the brick cabin. Any chance of some photos? John
  18. I'm sure I have seen it out at shows before when you have done track planning demos?
  19. James I trust you are well. I really like these and am planning to do some myself. You say you have used Humbrol Dove Grey but a quick google search seemed to draw a blank??? Was it one of the little tins and did it have a number? John
  20. Mike 12m of post and wire! Wow. Is that all of the railway boundary fence? I had assumed it would have been the more traditional all timber fencing. John
  21. Yes please to the spreadsheet. Thanks in advance. John
  22. Mike Apologies in advance for the random question but what are the overall dimensions of Wentworth Jcn and the fiddle yard? I've had a look through the thread but couldn't see anything. Thanks in advance John
  23. Ian I have really enjoyed reading this thread from the outset but what you have done to create the station buildings is brilliant. John
  24. Mike, Great little cabin. Does it have a window at the other end and will it have a chimney at the rear? John
