  1. My Microsol varnish has just been delivered. So (using different brushes) the intention is Microsol gloss varnish/ leave 2 days. Transfers; leave 2 days. Microsol satin varnish. So after leaving a further week can I spray my normal weathering mix of dirty enamel matt varnish or will I get a paint reaction?
  2. John I was not criticising your transfers. They are great. It was my fault I used the wrong varnish (enamel) I hadn't read your instructions!
  3. Possible (Wagon Transfers) I waited a couple of days after transferring before applying the CLEAR I may have used the same brush (Doh)
  4. I have just had Humbrol Clear go white too and it was applied in the warm! It was applied over transfers. . I have always used enamel varnishes sprayed on but Cambridge Custom and Railtec transfers react, I have been told Microsol varnish is superior to Clear. Any thoughts guys.
  5. "I now needed to form a couple of cavities in the lead over the top of the motor to accommodate the two capacitors which had previously been soldered to the rear of the motor." Does one need capacitors? I have left them on some locos but removed them on others.
  6. I am considering purchasing a rake of Hornby retooled Mk1s. Can someone please inform me the difference between Railroad and other variants? A mate says it's just plastic V metal wheels?
  7. Hi Terry Hest part Brit irf.jpg A Britannia in progress; it uses a very old Triang body shell (dimensionally accurate, but in need of a lot of pipework), which is sitting on a scratch brass chassis (1.6 mm slab sides) designed to take an X04 motor. It has Romford wheels and will be fitted with Comet cylinders and motion. The cab needs modifying to match the BR1B tender (which is from a Dave Alexander kit). I was thinking about a Hornby Brit/Bachmann BR1c to achieve 70052 but didn't realise there was a cab mod needed. Any advice
  8. Oh Doh I should have searched! I think I like them better with the panel so I'll do as advised and select numbers to suit. Thanks Guys. D859 was the first 800 to enter traffic with the Yellow panel from new on 09/01/62. D7019 was the first new Hymek to have a Yellow panel, from 14/02/62. D7018 was delivered new without a Yellow panel on 17/01/62 but after a few days in traffic went into Swindon for minor attention, coming out on 31/01/62 with the Yellow panel. With the 22's D6337 was new with Yellow from 13/03/62 with 6325 getting its Yellow end from 10/01/62 followed by 6305 on 12/01/62. With the 1000's D1002 was new in Green with Yellow, and the first from new in Maroon was D1011. Quite why 1001/1005-10 came out with Yellow buffer beams whilst the Yellow panel was being applied to other classes is not known other than the painting drawing date was probably slow in filtering down to the shop floor.
  9. I would be grateful for some background info on Diesels circa1962. My question relates to Yellow warning Panels as I have a Peak, a Warship and a Hymek with the high viz fronts. Should I paint them out?
  10. Hi Ray Looking for pics. I have pmed you 2. Keep watching as I only got back home Sun night.
  11. Hi Ray I will have some info for you shortly --it's cross reffing about 20 books with my notes and photos! Working away from home Weds on for a week but on my return I have some bank days. I am "on" a couple of Brits too!
  12. Great stuff, Ray, as always. I think the white roof was a "Statford Special" and not limited to Brit 0. Your comments on 70004 are helpful in that I have photo circa '63 with the old emblem and one circa '62 with the later emblem. I can give you a list, if you requre, of all the brits with handrails on the deflectors.
