The most recent RAIB report published had a similar instance of several (3 in that case) things all slightly outwith 'normal' but still within tolerance which, when combined resulted in derailment. Accidents on the railways rarely have 1 simple cause. Jeff.

There is a note in the 1996 sectional appendix thus :- Between North Queensferry and Inverkeithing Isolation of Engines on Diesel Multiple Unit Trains - Should a triple DMU set working over the Up line between Inverkeithing and North Queensferry require to have more than one engine isolated, assistance must be provide. Would that (the NRM photo) be looking across the Down yard toward Burntisland with the block in the background where the nursing school is now? Thanks for the map link Keefer, that make it much clearer. I've driven along Forth Ave a thousand time but never considered that there would have once been buildings there. Jeff.

I'm trying to match some of these photos to the current day. The one above is taken from the bridge looking back towards the station? The one that's really puzzling me is in post 107 (page 4) titled Gresley steel full brake at Kirkcaldy station? Is this looking across the Down side yard towards Forth avenue? Surely not as the houses are older than blue/grey era? Could it be up towards Nairns factories at Sinclairtown?? jeff.

Any chance of a farish 20? Can't find a guide for it anywhere, just lots saying its 'different' from the standard farish diesels. Cheers Jeff.
