  1. The great coachbuilder par excellence, Larry Goddard, I understand glues his roofs on with Evostik. He also solders a strip of brass to strengthen the tops of the sides.
  2. I think the map shows a simplified interpretation of what the layout actually was as the date of the photograph is c1907. It appears to be still like this in a photo dated 1930 but a photo dated 1947 shows a more familiar scissors crossover.
  3. Thanks, Martin. I'll have a play around tonight. Here is a photo from Peak Rail's collection showing the MR scissors I am looking to replicate if possible. If I have infringed copyright I will remove the image.
  4. Larry has warned us previously that he tends to lean on anything and everything.
  5. Exceptional work as usual and it's good to have you back posting.
  6. I have had a go at trying to make the original scissors turnout for Buxton MR as best I could by putting one turnout on top of another. Of course there should be gaps in the rails but I cannot make them in Templot. For those with Templot, I hope they are able to open the file below. Buxton Original Scissors.box
  7. No, but I bet they got quite a lot built in10 years, probably with some slave labour...now there's a thought...
  8. I am hoping to build a version of Buxton MR station. The original plan had a strange scissors cross-over which is beyond me to create in Templot. However, I have created a scissors cross-over which would do the job provided it would work if built. Would it work though? Just because it can be drawn in Templot does not mean it will work in model form. I have built my own turnouts before which include diamonds. Sorry it's so small, clicking on will make it bigger but not much.
  9. A bit more playing around with Templot to refine the plan with the scissors. Although I have a motorised Peco turntable, the one at Buxton MR was 50' so would take up less room and allow the coal siding to be extended and more engine parking area created, so with the exception of a couple of coal sidings the shed side is very much as was. Does anyone else other than Metalsmith of Leeds produce a 50' turntable?
  10. After another little play with Templot, I have made the twin crossovers on the main line into a scissors junction as this is what was in place in later photos which must have replaced an earlier complicated junction from Midland times. I couldn't replicate the MR junction and the plan in post 1 was as near as I could get.
  11. The reason for a terminus station is a perceived lack of room in the new house for my prefered round, but until we move in, hopefully by Christmas if our sellers can find somewhere, I don't know what space I will have. Going from agent's plans is useless, but it is fun to play around with ideas and it's certainly sharpened up my Templot skills
  12. To the top was the LNWR station and their line to Ashbourne which crossed the MR mainlines to the right so preventing a head-shunt to the top goods yard. The land sloped away to the bottom which was where the town was. The town was also to the left so no head shunt for the bottom yard.
  13. I have been having a think about a new layout for when a home move is complete and would like one based on Buxton Midland side. It was a very cramped site with no head-shunts of any size and would have been a nightmare to shunt. Wagons were regularly put into the short bay platform No 4 on the Midland side. The up mainline was used as a head-shunt and the line was signalled for this, with up trains leaving via the down line and regaining the up via a crossover which I have not put into the plan yet. At the top is a small goods yard with shed. The bottom at a lower level is the shed with coaling shed and turntable and small coal yard. This current plan is 19'x3'
  14. Wanted C&L 00 gauge wooden track bases for their bullhead rails. Due to impending house move, the layout has been lifted but although the rails were recovered, the bases were too well stuck down to the foam underlay to recover and have had to be binned. PM me if you have any bases to dispose of. Thanks
  15. Hi Jeff, you say that you're looking to hiring in help to convert your steamers, but why not have a think about say doing the 4F yourself at some point? No outside cylinders or valve gear. Just think of the satisfaction. Brassmasters do a nice kit for such a conversion and their instructions are very good. http://www.brassmasters.co.uk/4f_easichas.htm
  16. Hi Jeff, great to see trains in the landscape. Just looking forward to seeing 8F, Black 5s etc. Pedant mode on/ Are you having cobbles or setts? Pedant mode off/
  17. Dismantling work well under way so this is the last posting for this layout. New a new house is in prospect as our offer on it has been accepted. Look out for a new build thread in the New Year.
  18. That's all for this thread. New house purchase in the offing so look out for my new build, hopefully not too long into 2018.
  19. For goodness sake, don't mention sausages. A well-known RMwebber will be on here before you know it. I see the shell of a station building has sneaked into one of the photos. Is this for a covering of Wills'?
  20. Cannot wait to see what you get done, Gordon. A house move is in the offing and it will be quite a challenge to get what I want into the space that I have in the new place.
  21. Hi Larry, is it an optical illusion or are those buffers on M 26667 M bent up?
  22. I once read somewhere that ideally you shouldn't need locos or stock to tell you where a model railway was set. From those photos, even without the train, it couldn't be anywhere other than on the S&C. Late edit. I seem to recall it was a caption to a photograph which had a length of double track and signals and was typical Midland Railway.
  23. If I may answer for Jeff? http://www.art-printers.com/ Comes in 9" and 15" heights. Some are even self-adhesive.
  24. That looks much better, Jeff and no doubt it blends in with the other walls on the layout.
  25. Yes, I ought to have mentioned this as I have a "sound" LMS Compound, although one supplier has an LMS Compound decoder with 6 beats per revolution which you cannot get rid of by altering CVs. Ask me how I know!! Anyway back to Larry....
