Plus the fact that some of us simply don't have the kind of brain that understands the necessary alchemy to achieve DCC success. For me, DCC will forever remain a closed book...

I don't think it's alchemy but I think the decision to go DCC is whether it will add or detract from your enjoyment of what you model.  If you've been DC all your life and you're not feeling constrained by it in what you want to achieve with a model then there is no impetus to change.

I did it because I'd had enough of my pitiful attempts at a control panel, a pathetic reason really given I could happily wire up the layout with lots of sections (especially in the fiddlyard to stack trains), I could do the point motors with polarity switching, I even wired the railway so I could use two controllers anywhere on the layout, but I could not make a control panel beyond a black box with lots of holes drilled in it to save my life.  So when I went back to a terminus layout I thought I'd give DCC a go and bought some cheap chips from Rails.  Now I don't need a control panel as I have a piece of paper and an NCE Powercab to control all my locos and points.  I also gave sound a try as I really wanted a class 25 warbling away in my station.

But my impetus for DCC was my fear of the control panel

Passing Doncaster on the way down to Ally Pally 66171 was in yard still in EWS but looking like its up for regear to 66/6 so will get a new number and coat of red at Toton soon, apparently ten are getting done to lower their top speed to 65 and up the traction, 66221 is now 66651 after conversion.

Strange, red paint on cars makes them faster not slower.

Well there is an item called stock levels which I wouldn't have thought they'd want known but as I say it is in the public domain so maybe they're not bothered.

But why don't you just leave it now and let people get on and talk about the topic of TT:120 HSTs rather than continually trying to pick me up on insignificant little details?

I’m just helping you understand there is nothing in their webpage that isn’t meant to be there.

And as I said it is in the public domain I'm just not sure that Hornby want it pointed out that it can be accessed, given that there is also other (possibly more sensitive data) available as well.

There will be nothing sensitive there, it’s the data to build the webpage downloaded to your device you are viewing nothing more.  It’s how the internet works.

Why would you think I'm getting stressed by it? I'm just sharing what I've found - you seem to be the one getting stressed by what I've posted here.

Nope just informing you it was not secret data just the meta data used to populate the client side of the web page you were viewing as you were not sure.

The issue is individuals saying "don't buy that cheap decoder, it's pirated and from a disreputable company. Buy this expensive one instead." And then providing zero evidence to support it.

Probably because it is some time ago, people don't keep copious notes on such matters and the internet moves on with such speed these days that it is hard to find stuff that was discussed 5 years ago let alone further back.

The genesis of this was a post looking at how to build the cheapest possible DCC system. That included a mention of LaisDCC decoders as they're the cheapest new ones on the market. Various individuals said not to buy LaisDCC because they were pirated. That's quite a serious accusation so needs to be substantiated

By Lais, if they need to or can be bothered to, it's not your job to police RMWeb, we have pretty good moderators for that.  If something was said that was a risk to the good name of RMWeb or at risk of litigation then the Mods would pull it and correct those involved.  Has there been any moderation of the comments of others as to the source of the IP for Lais?

  8. Shops will be aware of what is coming and likely updated as they will be billed for said products before they are shipped from the warehouse.

This chap on Facebook doesn't have some inside secret knowledge he is just trawling websites most probably and making it look like he has some knowledge that other's don't.

I wouldn't get stressed by it.

Because all sorts of statements are being made that those decoders were pirated. And that alleged piracy is being used as a reason why other people shouldn't buy them even though they're the cheapest product on the market. Given the cost of living crisis, where every penny counts, I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

In a cost of living crisis where every penny counts I would not be spending it on toy trains...

I use Lais for some stay alives, I use Zimo for my sound chips.  I don't need someone to tell me what to purchase from reputable UK stockists, I don't understand why you do.  Just do what you feel is best for you and stop demanding other's make you feel better for your purchases.

  10. The information will be from a JSON file of metadata to populate the page you are looking at, to get that information the shop will have keyed the data into a file or a database on the server that seeds the data for the web page on your device (the client).  That date is then being formatted using the code embedded within the coding for the page to show it a season if that is what you can see on the webpage.

The shop may use real expected dates if they know them or key in approximate future dates based on when Hornby (or any other manufacturer) estimate they will arrive, it doesn't make it a fact as not even Hornby will know the exact date until the ship has landed in the UK and the containers unloaded and released.

I'm not even sure I'm allowed to post this but having spent a while digging through the JavaScript on one of the shop pages I managed to find the following, which I guess is what the guy on Facebook was posting about - it gives the product availability date of one of the Blue/Grey TSOs as 2nd June, although I haven't checked any others.

But I guess it isn't set in stone and it can change.

Also, I checked the arrival date of the Colas Class 66 and that was 30th November, although again I didn't check the others.

You're not posting anything secret, it's just the code used to build the page on the client(your device).

That date is just the latest known availability for the item which the shop has decided not to show on the actual page if you cannot see it.

Lose the bag search nonsense, utterly pointless and quite frankly as any form of anti terrorist measure, completely useless.

I think it's standard for any large venue that does multiple types of exhibition, they have detection machines you have to pass through on the way into the NEC from the station.  Strangely, I don't notice them near the doors past Starbucks from the car park, so perhaps ner do wells only come by train or use the Avanti parking lol.  Given what occurred at an Ariande Grande concert I don't have any objections.

I based my layout firmly on the Dawlish Warren end of the sea wall so it cannot be seen as a copy of the sea wall at Pendon. Nor is it a copy of, or even inspired by Holiday Haunts, no, not at all. Also there is no connection whatsoever between this layout and John Allison's N gauge sea wall layout back in the 1960s.😉

Update: John Allisons layout was in an RM article in May 1971 called watching the trains go by.

If anyone wants to do another sea wall layout they are most welcome but we will have to agree royalties first.

Who will you be paying them to?  😄

These two just popped up on my feed:

And this one a couple of days back
