  1. I've got two on pre-order and likewise would add another if it would help get them over the line. However I fear even if they had sufficient orders (or people crowdfunded it) the delivery timeline might just be too long for them to able to commit to all the related logistics
  2. Love the look of your C class SECR grey repaint on page 64. I have one i'm planning to give the same treatment but have been struggling to find the right transfers; where did you get yours from?
  3. I'm considering repainting a Bachmann C class into the wartime grey livery that was previously released as a collector's club limited edition. I've managed to source decals for the large tender and bufferbeam numbers but haven't had any luck so far with the red SE&CR plates on the cabsides and rear of the tender. Does anyone know of a suitable option for these?
  4. Thanks that's great. I'm planning on reversing the direction of the points at the left end of the station section, but the track plan currently represents the centre section of the layout as it is now (built many years ago without much thought!)
  5. Thanks. I found this diagram which I think is comparable to my layout. May I ask why I will need insulating joiners on those points if the whole loops are isolated and the central section is all the same polarity?
  6. Thanks. I'm currently moving to DCC but still have a large number of DC locos (and can switch to a DC controller) so sounds like it might be easiest to get on with switching to DCC. Presumably I'd need one at both ends? Guessing it would be wired up like below
  7. Hi all, I'm in the process of turning an existing end-to-end layout into a 'U' shaped loop (see picture below). The central station/yard section is already laid so it is theoretically just a matter of adding the two end loops to allow continuous running, with locomotives passing through both platforms in one circuit. However, I'm struggling to figure out how to wire it up so that the passing loop in the station still works; unless i'm mistaken, when the points are changed to allow locomotives to move between the two lines there will be a short circuit between the two points (see my beautiful illustration). However, if I add an insulating fishplate between the two, the locos will change direction as they switch between the two tracks. Is there a way to get around this so a train could say go out of a platform in one direction, around the loop, and then through the points to run back through the same platform?
  8. do you think it would be possible to keep the 6 pin socket and put the speaker in the cab? Good to see I'm not the only one who got 3 E4s!
  9. yeah.. that is really true. there are way to many layouts that look good from a distance but the detail just isn't there. there are so many easy detailing projects you can do in very little time. i used to like making fake newspapers to make it look like they had blown onto the track and putting labels in car windows at the garage on my old layout. +1 about parents complaining... i used to use dinner plates for mixing paint on. that really didn't go down well with my mum! my dad also used bug me for using his tools and then not putting them back!
  10. I really like the way you have made the hills. how did you managed to shape the polystyrene without it falling apart? whenever i have tried th make hills from polystyrene it has crumbled and I've ended up with a small lump f foam rather than a hill... I look forward to seeing how this develops. I especially like the wellies in the manor! Shame that poor guy had to lose his feet though!
  11. has anyone tried DCC sound on the E4? Hornby Magazine showed one in a video but i can't find any info on the installation and setup.
  12. I'm back!

  13. was this just a special modification they made at ashford?
  14. i ran it in for 35 mins in each direction. it runs smoothly, but when you slow it down it is judder. it could be that my controller (a old Hornby DC one). it makes a sort of whistling sound when it runs (not a squeak) and grinding noises.
  15. i got the unlined black e4 a couple of days ago but have only just been able to run it. it runs fairly well, but is a little grindy. i have had no problems with mines rear wheels derailing, even over tight curves and setback points. annoyingly it doesn't run very well at slow speeds (probably needs oil. what oil do you recommend?) i got some photos:
  16. hat tons now have them all in stock apart from the LBSCR one. was just about to change cancel my pre order and get one from Kernow. i already have the unlined black one and i must say it is absolutely stunning. it does however have a huge mould line on the chimney and boiler.
  17. Waiting for a Bachmann e4... still...

  21. i seem to remember Bachmann saying at some point last year that they had to make the splashers oversized due to the fact that the wheel flanges on oo gauge models are also oversized, so this is just a necessary compromise.
  22. I would love to join but sadly im under 18.
  23. Looks very interesting. I also like industrials so i look forward to seeing how this layout progresses. Will
