  1. Does anyone have any info on what shade of purple the disc on the Enfiled service wore The loco had the normal 'local' headcode ( top bracket) with a purple disc with white border on the RH lamp iron I would like to paint one of my 5in gauge discs to complete the set and wondered what the RGB/CYMK codes might be? TIA
  2. When i was with BT we had the Buzby Train in IIRC 1979 and 1980. First time was at Kensington Olympia and it was stabled in the old milk dock at West Ealing, about 200yds from the office in 1980 I recall taking pics and still have the Buzby tie as well as a name tag.If this thread is still going,if i find them somewhere in the loft, will post them up
  3. Unless it has an invisibilty cloakm i cannot find a sub forum about Train sim progs ( Mods if there is can you shift this please?) Problem with the North London and Goblin Line mdodule Has anyone got this and completed the 'Business as usual' scenario? Three times i have tried and all three on approach to Willesden have ground to a halt and started rolling backwards on full power It is really annoying and i have emptied the Sahara with the amount of sand used!! Anybody else found this? or know how to complete it?
  4. Going completely 180 degrees ( so to speak) Three Bridges at Southall has a road going over a canal which goes over the railway The GWR Brentford branch heading SE from Southall Station
  5. Just seen on ebay album of over 100 LBSC station postcards Just a heads up
  6. JUst a heads up. There is an album of postcards ( i think) of French Locos on Ebay
  7. As the site will not let me put this in the classifieds, i will risk the wrath of the mods on here!! Have been left 42 various books of the above publisher ( and a couple of others) to our society I have been tasked with seeing if anyone wants them so will give this forums 'first dib's ,so to speak Most of the titles are on the USA version of Ebay I have listed all our at about half the price that the dealers want over there. and the good news is the postage will be cheaper ( i haven't weighed any yet so cannot guesstimate how much) If anyone is interested drop me a pm with your email and i will send an excel sheet across It shows cost, title, author and publisher they are nearly all in mint condition and if you google the titles on ebay USA you will see what the book covers It will be first come etc Note to mods if not proper on here can you move it over please?
  8. How many on here are into US steam esp the UP historic collection? Got an idea running around that may have legs
  9. Will put these in the for sale section if there is enough interest, I have been asked to sell a collection of books on various parts of the US system Total of 42 and are mostly Morning Sun publications from about the mid 90s or so and the main are of coverage is the East Coast Would there be interest on here, or is it best to do a job lot with one of the railway booksellers? Feel free to pm with comments
  10. Anyone know the diameter and thickness of the discs used for trains codes in the steam era?
  11. JUst a quickie Follow the signs on the Main footbridge , you exit on the West side of the station and there is a walkway. You cannot miss the entrance just seek the crowds!!!
  12. 298 Thsnks for putting that photo up. Brought back lots of memories from my very early days of getting into 'spotting' LT stock
  13. Waaay back in the early 2000's? Plat 9 had a selection of school banners hanging and some warning signs on the platform floor I did take some pics at the time but cannot trace them on the PC Did anyone else phot, ograph them and could let me have copies?
  14. Some with long memories may be able to answer this. Years ago one was named Terence Cuneo and he painted a mouse on the loco Was this ever saved or just painted over?
  15. Thanks for the input. I do have GA of the first batch of tenders ( GE style) for 2800-09 and that is where the anomaly arises It shows the water coop gear on the LH side behind the driver (locos being LH drive) and using a handwheel. IIRC the B12 tender has the handbrake in that position with a 'bent' handle Having said that the LNER Pacifics have the scoop gear on the LH side with a bent handle The B17 lot only have a GE Chassis. Will have another go at the Scottish source. something may have surfaced since i last asked
  16. I think i may have 'drained the pond' with all the photos i can get hold of , even going to the B12 at NNR, which is not 100% a B17 tender What i am after is a picture of the front end of the tender showing the positioning of the Handbrake and Water scoops. I have tried the NRM but no success, although that was a few years ago and there might well be additional photos come to light. Also the NB museum in Glasgow is a bit sparce in that respect, when i enquired, But as they appear to hold most of the NB details i feel sure there must be one somewhere Anybody out there might be able to point me in the direction of my Holy Grail?
  17. Apologies Budgie, it was said with tongue very firmly in cheek
  18. Worked on it twice, at the old West Ealing Milk Dock and Kensingtom Olympia ( as BT rep) for thepics somewhere, and a Buzby scarf from one of the girls ,might still have the tie!!!
  19. Does anyone recall the pic that appeared in the RM some years ago of the banking to end all banking IIRC there was a LMS 2-6-6-2.The LNER Garrett, Big Bertha and a 9F
  20. Re the Indian monsoon Very rare shot of an indian train without roof riders (lol) Serious question Now How many carriages was he hauling? it seemed to go on forever
  21. Spikey said earlier Speaking as an ex-professional photographer, the one thing that always puzzles me about these idiots is what's the tripod for? Hmm as an ex professional Photographer also , i am baffled by your statement I regularly use a tripod, 2 in fact one for the video, one for the camera on motor drive. Both giving me rock steady shots and the added bonus of actually watching the train with the Mk1 eyeball and keeping a good watch around me. I did once at Twyford have a 3 tripod set up with the two videos overlapping so i got a coming and going shot with no need to pan..except my head. I also carry a monopod just in case i have to tie it to a fence where it is impractical to set up a tripod. Mind you I did get escorted ( sorry man handled) off Woking Station years ago while waiting for Scotsman as and i quote 'As the foot of your tripod was over the yellow line ( it was i agree by one inch, but it WAS over) I have had to stop ALL the up trains from Basingstoke until you are off the station' He claimed that he had been giving me fair warning over the tannoy, but as i was at the London end of the platform i couldn't hear it The funny part was as he was walking me out, i did point out to him that there were about 100 people right on the edge of the platform, and what was he going to do about it. At least i was behind the yellow line and always have been, AND if i have to set up on the same platform as the train is running through . i hold the tripod as well...just in case BUT i am always the right side. Idiots like the ones Andrew took a pic of needed a wake up call. Had i been the driver , i might have 'stumbled' into the gear and unfortunately knocked it over A week or so later i was relating this to the staff at Farnborough , and they said they had heard through the grapevine that his action had been the last straw for the bosses and he is now cleaning carriages away from the public. It seems that he had a list of complaints about his attitude that could fill a book. Farnborough and Twyford (GWR) staff were great. Announced how long it would be, if it was on main or slow ( relief at Twyford!!) but in all my years of videoing i have only knowing got over the fence, It was an insane distance from the track , set up the video and started it and got back behind the fence. The camera was NOT conspicuous. Also whist i have been correct side, the monopod has ventured over to get past vegetation, again nowhere near the line. Not sure though if that constitutes a trespass, but if it does, i would stop doing it.
  22. I dont know much about steam locos! building a 5in gauge B17, but the cyl cocks i can understand. However snifting valves are usually connected to the inlet side of the superheater and when the regulator is opened is closed by steam pressure. When the regulator is closed, the snifter valves opens usually by gravity( well it does on my loco) to allow air through the superheater tubes so they do not burn. The amount of steam coming out from between the frames looks more like leaky joints. BUT as it is a GW loco i guess they did thing differently lol
