  1. Definitive answer from the supplier is below:-

    1) what the minimum radius is they can couple and propel at? - 2ft for the 3mm version with the mounting plates; a bit less for the 4mm version

    2) what is the difference between the Mk1 and Mk3 styles? - Mk3 has the extra “hook” so you can propel after uncoupling without them recoupling.

    3) do they engage on curves? -  Yes.

3ft was the old restriction before the modification with the addition of the mounting plates.

Hope this also helps others, especially the knowledge that the 3ft curves restriction is obsolete for current supplies.

  2. Trying not to start a new thread and this seems relevant. Two queries:-

    1) I have a pack of what must be Mk1s bought two, even three, decades ago and not used due to (2) below. What is the difference between these and the Mk3s now being sold?

    2) What is the minimum radius they can be used on? I had been told 3ft (which is why the set I bought ages ago have never been used) but recall seeing a recent note somewhere that a newer version exists for tighter radius curves.

I have used them before when helping on other people's layouts so it is only the radius issue that is stopping me - no space for 3ft curves, hence the question.

  3. The conundrum of these vans (all links found by following a google images search for SR bogie utility vans). Links only posted for copyright reasons:–

    1.     In the top picture on this link the bars appear to be four up and four across painted black. Upper and lower bars visible but almost level with the window frame. Link https://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/gbl.html

    2.     However, in the lower photo on the same page they appear to be either a very, very grubby white or a mid-brown.

    3.     In this flickr album most, where the bars are complete, seem to be 3 across x 4 down and painted black. https://www.flickr.com/photos/extension3363/sets/72157654715839946/

    4.     Although not exactly the same vehicle type, but one would assume built and run under the same livery regime, the bars vary in colour from red (as built) and later beige. They appear to also have been replaced by different arrangements at varying times during service life. Top picture 2 across x 4 down but earlier in its life it had 1 across by 4 down. https://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pic2/4601_0415_ml.jpg

    5.     The GUV on the Swanage Rly, 3 across x 4 down, beige. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_stock_of_the_Swanage_Railway#/media/File:SR_GUV_2464_at_Corfe_Castle.JPG

    6.     This one at the Swanage Rly, has variations within the van itself and the window bars, are probably grubby white. Mostly 1 across by 2 down. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_stock_of_the_Swanage_Railway#/media/File:SR_Full_Brake_256_at_Corfe_Castle.JPG

The crucial bit is that none (Except the one-off livery used for Winston Churchill's funeral) seem to match the bright white of the model as released but the Roxey bars do appear to match most. https://www.roxeymouldings.co.uk/product/475/4a122-sr-window-grilles-for-bogie-luggage-van/

  4. Sorry to activate an old thread but how many window bars should an ex Tri-Ang SR van have, and should they be white or black? (Mine is in scruffy BR green)

I have asked as on-line images of the prototype seem to vary and I need to replace the long lost originals on my model. Might as well get it right if I can rather than just replicate the Tri-ang option.

  5. My most recently bought PECO kit from the ex-PD range (the 24.5T coal) had no transfers included. Is that old stock or a packing fault I should take up with PECO? I would want the BR versions. I also note the appropriate one's on the Modelmaster site appear to either be faulty or have a badly edited graphic. I, am still awaiting their response to my email sent last week querying the issue before ordering.
