  1. Firsthand experience that the NHS is this country's most valuable asset.Instead of getting Easter eggs I got multiple heart attacks, which came as a bit of a shock as up to now my health has been excellent. After a few additions to the plumbing of the ticker I'mnow firmly on the road to recovery. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I got in Southampton General Hospital given by people from all four corners of the globe, all diamonds in the crown that is the NHS

As another ex-Southampton heart surgery patient (albeit now a while back) I fully echo the views about them and the NHS.

  2. What is it with Dapol coupling hooks? You do so much as look at them & they ping into outer space!! 🥴

Fully concur. The modern plastic one's are useless from just about every maker - not progress back in the day when they  (as in t/ls in general) were metal with the hook on a rivet they rarely failed. The clip on idea for the hook is not fit for purpose.

  3. I'm in beautiful York next weekend. Any good model shops in that neck of the woods? 🚆

Monk Bar Model shop in York, concur with the other posters.  If you are driving in from the south Hensall has a good one by the station and level crossing.  Also a Hobbycraft up on the Monks Cross shopping complex with regular bus links to/from the City centre if you have gone to York on the train.

  4. Why have I not used the 'Expanded' view in 'Unread content' before? It's so much better!

Interesting observation. These things are obviously very much a personal decision on what you like/dislike but I tried it and quickly went back to condensed.

  5. I have seen it all now, an advert just flashed up on another site advertising workshops for parents to sign up their six to eleven year olds up for to train how to become successful YouTubers...

    I despair...

@Captain Kernow in principle I don't disagree with you: however, advertising, marketing and selling are long established traditions YT influencing is no more a new thing than Fanny & Johnny Craddock, Keith Floyd et al  et al were doing when I was a lad for cooking. Iy is just a new media format being used for a concept that has been in use from the first scrawled advert for prostitute back in IIRC ancient Greek times. (Sadly I have forgotten in which ancient City it is inscribed onto the ruins)  Doing advertising etc., well takes a lot of skill it is why those who are good at it get paid good salaries.

YouTubing may not be your career choice but it is one that can prove to be useful and give an income. From what I understand it is easy to be on YT as a creator (I have put stuff there) but extremely hard work to become highly successful at getting your videos seen by the thousands needed for it to generate an income stream or for you to become an influencer. With regard to courses probably a bit of a rip-off those with the innate skills needed to be good at selling have that "something" that like the very best watchmakers, sports people and musicians is all in the genes they were born with.

  7. Trial run to see if I can hack & fit micro tension lock couplings to my older Lima/Hornby's.

Be sure you want to before you do it. I have found the new one’s very poor and would happily swap the small one’s on my modern stock for older types that work. I have bought some Sprat & Winkles but have yet to start fitting them.

Agree with the earlier posts, your post is a call for help. Don't do it ring Samaritans or relevant non-UK group.

  11. Yay I’m a grandad! How long should I wait before buying my new granddaughter a train set?

Make a train shaped rattle one of the early toys then a Brio set as the first more train set like purchase, but regarding the Brio not for a year or so yet.

  12. If people keep positing the 'wrong thing' in the Status Update area then maybe there is something a little wrong with the set up between using the PM facility (confidential) and Status (open to public)? Once or twice maybe accidents. Several times a month is showing some sort of confusion as to the way to do things 'privately' ?  I ma not clever enough to understand Tech stuff but I can see a glitch.

Have made same mistake in the past so tend to agree it could be more obvious.

  13. I have come to the conclusion that double yellow lines on the roads around here are purely for decorative purposes only....

Same problem around here. Like many traffic regulations imposed nationally enforcement is always the problem. Although there are a few random days of enforcement far too few Traffic Wardens (can't remember their current proper designation) to make getting ticketed regularly a likely prospect so motorists don't bother. Even with the urban 30mph speed limit I guess most of the time nominal observance that there is a limit is the low 30s not 29mph. The counter is would I want to pay more council tax for more traffic enforcement officers?

  14. Can we have a vote for disabling the public message to another member feature? I'd like to see it gone so that messages intended as private don't end up 'inappropriately' public.

  15. I am using PM rather than clutter the 66 thread even more. Thanks for the tip re the Hornby frogs, that was exactly what my 66 was doing, front nearside wheel hitting the frog and then lifting up and over. I modified the check rail by replacing it with a slightly longer and higher version as my fix. I guess the wheel is still trying to lift and derail but the offside check is now blocking it.

That may well have been where I wrongly clicked had it actually been a message that needed to be private (I.e. sent from the profile) although in this instance it didn't matter.

Can anyone explain why clicking the envelope sent a public status update not an off-line PM? I saw it had done that after posting but as it wasn't in any way defamatory I left it in public i.e., as it was.

Re preferring PECO, me too. I only used Hornby because this started out as a just quick build use what I had lying around project.

Can we have the square ones back?

(And if thats my most important quibble, then the RMWeb team have done a good job!)

Agree re circular icons but it seems to be the modern trend.
