  1. Personal post. If the modelling side of the hobby is to survive then it needs specialist suppliers and for modellers from any point on the ability range to see that they can get items to aid their modelling. You can get r-t-r in some toy shops, the remaining hobby shops and 24x7 on line without needing a show to get them from. For rolling stock we had both new r-t-r on some trade stands and a substantial range of pre-owned on the ground floor. What isn’t easily done is seeing the specialist bits and pieces to see if they meet your needs, be that tools, kits or parts.
  2. You obviously weren’t looking hard enough, at least two on the Lego layout. Winston Churchill and Taw Valley. Update - this post has been misread, it should have had a smiley face as it was meant in humourous support of the post quoted.
  3. Thank you to all attendees. The Show Directors thank everyone who attended over the weekend, be that in any capacity towards making it work, or as one of the paying public. A fantastic show now completed, thank you. The website will be updated either tomorrow or Wednesday as time permits. There were two items of unclaimed lost property and details will follow. If you think they might be yours add a comment below. Now the countdown to Easter 2025 and our 60th event begins. As our founder, Mike Cook, described it “the show that never ends”.
  4. The show is now over. The big break down is under way. We hope everyone gets home safely. We will be back for Easter 2025. A big thank you to everyone who came in any capacity.
  5. Day 3 of the 3 today. We are open from 10:00 through to 16:30.
  6. From the York Show - A lost property update: late on this afternoon we had a pack of loco building fitments handed in. Despite announcing it they were unclaimed at the end of the day. If you think they may be yours PM me a description and we can arrange to post them on. Apologies for the cross post but given the specialist nature of the items the purchaser may well be a reader of this thread.
  7. A lost property update: late on this afternoon we had a pack of loco building fitments handed in. Despite announcing it they were unclaimed at the end of the day. If you think they may be yours PM me a description and we can arrange to post them on. Update - claimed, found items matched the list sent of what was lost. Now in the post on their way home.
  8. Thank you on behalf of ALL the organising team. Several are on here including @John of York61 amongst others.
  9. For me one of the best layouts in the show. I didn’t draw the floor plan layout and I am posting this as me not as an official show press answer. I guess getting it fitted into available spaces will often be an issue. As an example I doubt we, as in my local WMRA club, could fit it into any of the spaces we have at our show venue.
  10. You are on Mezzanine One
  11. Easter egg hunt - for children under 10 this year we have an Easter Egg hunt. Entry details from the step stool hire stand in the entrance foyer.
  12. You beat me to it on here. Yes website now updated. URGENT UPDATE - Saturday parking is now on the coach park as described on our website for Sunday & Monday. Reason - the car boot sale has been cancelled. Please watch out for the park runners if arriving early on Saturday.
  13. The Park Run may take some on street spaces for very early arrivals as they start at 9am. It is on our car arrivals page. https://yorkshow.org.uk/car/.
  14. And set up comnences
  15. Not sure which year but one of the one’s in London. (Central Hall?) With the passage of time I don’t recall much about it other than the crowds around everything being overwhelming for a (then) still primary school youngster.
  16. Excellent work, particularly like the O/h ES1
  17. Do you still have the photos to reinstate?
  18. It won't, it is Saturday. We have the alternative car park set up for Saturday. See https://yorkshow.org.uk/car/ for full parking details. The correct SatNav setting for Saturday is the junction of Knavesmire Rd & Knavesmire Ave. If anyone uses what three words = https://w3w.co/films.brain.much A reminder for the less than fully mobile, but non-blue badge holders, arriving by car the Saturday walk to the show entrance is longer than that on Sunday & Monday.
  19. Quick update regarding on-line tickets and door entry. Pre-paid at discount through to Good Friday. Pre-paid through the show period still available but at door prices. On the door can be cash or card. Show Guides at the door. Step stool hire (Cash only) will be in the entrance foyer. This has to be cash as there is a returnable deposit.
  20. When I relinked found same issue. Apologies try https://www.railtech.com/infrastructure/2024/03/26/train-derailment-disrupts-traffic-in-norway/#?gdpr=accept
  21. Very large derailment in Norway. Good job it wasn't a passenger train. It's one thing when our models do it, horrendous on the real thing. https://www.railfreight.com/railfreight/2024/03/25/derailment-in-norway-blocks-rail-access-to-bergen-indefinitely (possibly blocked/pay wall) Alternative link - https://www.railtech.com/infrastructure/2024/03/26/train-derailment-disrupts-traffic-in-norway/#?gdpr=accept
  22. This may or may not be relevant but it reads a bit like something that happened years ago on a club layout. Could there be any random pathway for power through something like the ballast or point rodding? On that club layout one mystery section that would not isolate, eventually traced to current getting through the ballast. We never really solved why, possibly a stray strand of copper from wire, but it went away after the ballast was removed and the section redone. Possibly something in the glue that is conductive. It possibly only shows up with the DCC enabled as everything is on/live at the same time whereas normally the section with the fault is off so the path doesn't exist.
  23. Yes. The other change though is due to changes in IT. Modern enthusiasts, whether their interest is in steam or other railway areas don’t have to go to a club meeting to see a presentation on a topic. Back in the 1970s it was join a/the Society, go to the monthly meeting and you got that month’s topic. Today it has progressed so far you don’t need the physical events it is on YouTube within hours, or even live. Lots of other pressures on time, cost of living etc., amplifying that. In the SLS we are trying to adapt with use of zoom (and recordings to aid time shift) but the fact remains (picking a topic at random) if I want to see analysis of Swiss Railways it is probably on YouTube not wait eleven months and hope a speaker will cover it. The social side the key driver for physical attendance. Societies are in steep decline, perhaps except for line or scale specific one’s, as the information is available freely elsewhere. Model shows might be next, with the from a distance visitors dropping off first. We live in interesting times.
  24. Not sure if that is the one I bought tried based on recommendations but it wouldn’t work cold. The bottle is currently inaccessible and I didn’t note it in my posts after the trial. @CF MRC recommended a make when I was up at Missenden recently. Can only suggest buying in person from a gun-shop but checking the notes on the bottle first (I didn’t) no idea where you live but Sportarm in Dorchester is my nearest. They have been helpful, for example you can buy shot for short gun cartridges but not the cartridges to split yourself if you haven’t a gun licence.
  25. Unfortunately I found when editing the SLS Journal that only pre-1968 seems to matter remains prevalent. I did receive a handful of articles on non-steam and/or contemporary matters but they were no more than a 1/3rd of the submissions even being generous.
