Been there a few times as it’s near to where we live, it’s a beautiful village and the station site is fascinating. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

  3. Rolleston-on-Dove, the layout has ended its days as a working model railway. In action recently at the Stafford exhibition, considered to be the high point in the layout's history, proved to be its final public appearance. Its appearance at Expo EM at Manchester in 2018 was another highlight in 16 years of operation. All is not over as the section that includes the carriage dock with all the pointwork remains active, linking the Little Burton layout with its storage sidings. Three dioramas, sections of the original layout are being converted featuring the station buildings, signal cabin and over bridge. These will be used as 3-dimensional visual aids when presenting talks to local school pupils and interested organisations.

  4. Please come along to Railex at this brilliant venue. I will be there with Little Burton, version 3. One of its rare exhibition appearances, featured on Youtube and in both Railway Modeller and British Railway Modelling magazines.

My layout 'Rolleston-on-Dove' will be exhibited at the above event. Not seen in public, apart from Youtube, since 2019, the scenics have undergone some refurbishment to reflect an autumnal appearance. Two periods will be represented – 1920/30's and post WW2.

Rolleston-on-Dove will is also booked to appear at the Stafford exhibition in September.

Here is our latest bulletin sent to all who follow our projects.

This issue specialises in our new feature – the remains of the McKenzie and Holland signal box, supplied to the North Staffordshire Railway Co. for the opening of Rolleston station in 1894.

An interpretation panel gives details of this once mechanical signal cabin demolished in 1952.

Mechanical signal boxes still give service on the ex NSR Derby-Stoke line.

    Little Burton

Little Burton is the third layout in a trilogy of layouts built over the last 42 years to emulate the railway scene at Burton upon Trent during both the LMS period and that of early British Railways. Modelled in 4mm scale to EM Gauge track standards, the layout is L-shaped with a longest side of 16ft. Control is DC with isolating sections positioned strategically. The three layouts have all been featured in the Railway Modeller and this third version also in British Railway Modelling. There are 2 Youtube videos available:

Some latest images of Little Burton, as seen on Facebook:

Standard class 4, 75006 an early product from the Mainline range, but with hand-built chassis and Romford wheels to EM gauge standard, hadn't turned a wheel for about 10 years, but immediately sprang back into life. Her first run on Little Burton version 3.

Two eras represented on the viaduct, Midland Compound from the GEM range built 1974, now re-painted in LMS livery and Stanier Mogul in BR livery built from a K's kit.

Thanks Clive, It looks great. Note that most people won't see this because status updates fall off the homepage quite quickly.

You should really start a Layout Topic - that's the way most people post updates on their layouts.

    Rolleston-on-Dove

The layout is based on a prototype station that served the village of Rolleston-on-Dove, Staffordshire from 1894 until closure in1949. Modelled in 4mm scale employing EM gauge track standards, this layout first went public in 2007 and has been featured in both Railway Modeller and British Railway Modelling magazines. The period of modelling for this ex North Staffordshire Railway branch is both post WW2 in the BR period, prior to closure, and 1930's during LMS days. The model is the precursor of a successful scheme to preserve the remains of the actual station which is now part of the Jinny Nature Trail. Keep up with progress by visiting the website: www.rolleston-on-dove-station.co.uk or "The Model Railways of Clive Baker" on Facebook.
  14. I've just purchased a K's kit for this brake van, a white metal kit, it was possibly produced in the 1950's and still in its wrapping as it left the factory. I'll post an image when completed.

Work in progress, a model of a signal box at a level crossing in High Street , Burton upon Trent, to be a feature along the approach to the Little Burton layout.

During Lockdown it is difficult to give reliable exhibition information re my 3 layouts.

Little Burton was booked to appear at Burton Railex at the National Brewing Centre, Burton upon Trent 01.11.2020. Event cancelled.

The layout is to be featured in the January 2021 issue of BRM. It can be viewed on Youtube:

  16. Thank you Andy and your excellent team of assistants for organising another "Great Weston" Model Railway exhibition. I feel privileged to have taken part in 3 of the 6 shows that have supported Weston on Trent Primary School primary school and was totally surprised, yet delighted to be awarded Best in Show yesterday for Coton-on-Dove – Thank you, the trophy will take pride of place, I was lost for words yesterday afternoon. I have witnessed the exhibition growing, not just in size – number and quality of layouts together with well selected trade support over the previous six years and hope that you Andy will continue as an exhibition manager at your new location. All the best for the future. Clive
  17. Hello Andy Please can you email me on clivegbaker@icloud.com so that I can send details for Coton-on-Dove for the forthcoming Weston-on-Trent show. Many thanks Clive
  18. Thanks Andy, but I will stick to Coton as I have already put the details out on various social media sites so wouldn't want to confuse the public.
  19. Good news to hear you are up and running this coming November, I look forward to bringing Coton-on-Dove for its second outing to a show that has become established and respected. Would you like me to give the show a plug on the Rolleston-on-Dove Station website? Kind regards Clive
  20. Great result Andy, lovely friendly show, excellent trade with plenty of rummage boxes containing useful layout sundries. "Up the line" a real star turn. If you ever have problems with cancellations in future years, I'm not far away. All the best Clive Baker
  21. Hello Whilst exhibiting my layout "Coton-on-Dove" at the 2011 Wirksworth exhibition, I was asked by one of your members if I would show the layout at the Belper 2013 exhibition. I would be grateful if you could let me know if the invitation is still extended so that I can plan the forthcoming year. Regards Clive Baker
  22. Lovely friendly show, congratulations Andy and your helpers and fellow exhibitors. It gave me a chance to operate trains on a layout that's too long for my garage. Regards Clive Baker, Rolleston-on-Dove
