  1. Over head projector I think. Metal blackening pen is an alternative.

    Dapol Class 22

They are out of bogie tower sides according to the spares list on their website. I'm trying to put together a list atm to motorise my unpowered paint sample. Canon motor and single bogie drive i think it'll be.
  3. They look to be exhibiting the prototype variance of colours in those shots nicely.
  4. Best to send the complete model in appropriate packaging as Hornby will hopefully have some new bodies left to fit and have been returning the old body too.
  5. Its probably going to be just as easy to t-cut the Western if Dapol use the same sort of paint as Bachmann do to get the same effect.
  6. So the arrowed descriptions of colours on SL/SW/2451 were erased when the drawing was altered from maroon to blue.. HOWEVER, i forgot about the alterations table 01/01/1962 2" letters (A & B) below cab door to be painted black instead of cast aluminium. [an interesting cost saving i guess] 25/04/1962 Colour of roof hatches between bulkheads altered from Grey BSS 2660:9-094 to Black BSS 2660:9-103 14/05/1962 Drawing endorsed for locos D1006,7 & 8 27/09/1962 Colour of body changed from coach maroon to loco maroon. If you havent done desert sand yet SL/SW/2872 18-9-1961 Body (areas as above) Desert Sand BSS 2660: 3-036 "modified as per letter dated 31-8-61 to loco works manager" apparently.. Obviously what is said on paper but seems accurate..
  8. You may want to put a slight diagonal on your coil spring representations to suggest more of a coil effect.
  9. Pity about the holes in it, looked like it was going to make a lovely bird bath . Its a very nice bit of work by the useful Hutfield though it did weigh a fair bit! Laser cut card sounds a less laborious solution to the brickwork than the individual chits!
  10. I guess though if they were sold and labour wanted to be taken into consideration then they'd be more comparable on pricing. Things like lost wax detail can certainly add more than expected to costs too. 0 gauge looks great with 3D printing as they layering seems fine in that scale, im still a bit skeptical about the cleaning involved with 4mm stuff though Bill Bedford had some nice bits at S4 North that were ok.
  11. L&Y wagons were certainly pretty advanced from the amount of bits im having to CAD up for a Goole end door coal wagon!
  12. My Dad decided to have a Network Rail one after getting that letter as "he doesn't have a yellow train" . I did ask him if he can get them to send the remains of the blue one back anyway so I can have the spares, don't think they'd have gone for that though!
  13. Ernie Ball plain steel from Strings Direct, from .10 to .12 usually.
  14. I'd assume people could send it back if dissatisfied about the price rise under distance selling regulations though I don't think you'd get the postage for sending it back refunded. As many will have ordered these and forgotten about it quite a while ago i'd imagine quite a few grumpy responses to a request for more money!

    Dapol Class 22

Could somebody tell me why I wanted one? Not exactly prevalent in South Wales or indeed the bit of Castleton the layout its sitting on is based in! Ah well, it was cheap, I guess a Whitecliffe Quarry scene maybe with the hoppers in tow. Still need to motorise it though and stick some springy bogies in P4 under it before its much use though. Weathering is superb I must say!
  16. I immediately thought of Ju88's when viewing the aerial shot and then scrolled down! Apart from the bomber being a bit lower it is hard to tell the difference between the two and shows up how much area you can fit in with 2mm.
  17. You'd be better off buying a High Level chassis too for it tbh if you want far better running though that would depend on your soldering skills.
  18. Glad to help. Im assuming Hornby will replace the circuit board too on any new ones they repair where the complete model was returned. I think mine had its original circuit board back on it when returned.
  19. Click on 'more reply options' when posting so you have the full image upload dialogue. Make sure you have compressed and optimised your pictures for the internet and then upload.
  20. An interesting release this one. One thing I have noticed is the £17 premium for chip fitted, does this mean its something better than normally fitted or a general increase in chip prices? (Or that i've just had my head in the sand concerning DCC on board RRP!)
  21. Dave are those horizontal lines on the side windows some sort of frame or is it just the transparent nature of the glazing showing up on the CAD? I only noted it when Andy posted his comparison. Just checking there wasn't an errant rubber seal popping up although personally i'll be hoping Shawplan does some Lazerglaze for this eventually . If Mark is happy with the detail its great for me, I think the overall shape is certainly sorted now and the depth to the bogies is certainly something for modern RTR diesels.
  22. Certain High Level gear boxes do come with a grub screw on the final gear but they are generally wider designs to give the room for the grub screw. Even in P4 these are generally a bit wide though due to the hornblocks.
  23. Its only the 3 initial releases from 2005 that had issues, 5512 was the green skinhead I had, the other two were a blue one and a dutch one, the R numbers should be in the thread. Anything released since was fine.
  24. Hornby fixed the initial returns over a year ago now, if you only contacted them in May you'll have been at the head of this next batch awaiting more chassis being made. So if you'd had an early Heljan 47 or a Bachmann N you'd boycott those companies? Incidentally my dad send them the model then followed it up with an email telling them to fix it
  25. Only those whose models Hornby already had were sent a letter updating on progress. Don't you think you are over reacting there? Its one release of one model that had a manufacturing defect that Hornby are fixing when the batch production system allows it (they can't just click their fingers and get a slot in someone elses factory..). As for cars its no where near as bad as something like the Toyota brake recall and frankly its a toy train not anything safety critical.. Mine was fixed in the first round of chassis replacements and my dad has one with Hornby this time around waiting for the parts.
