  1. I have a large Picture Pride display cabinet on the wall above the layout in the railway room. Any loco I really like the look of that is out of region / time period for the layout, goes in the cabinet ! Never deny yourself the opportunity to buy something you like ! You can always take it for a sneaky test drive when there's no rivet counters around !
  2. It says Spring 2015 on the website. First day of spring is 5 weeks away.
  3. Rails have now updated the price to £18.50 and blamed Hornby for the price error
  4. Possibly a mistake on Rails website. I've ordered a couple at £12.50. I'll let you know if it goes through, but I'm expecting a call to say they want more money !
  5. Pre ordered the LNER livery J15 from Rails 13 months ago. Fingers crossed enough stock reaches the retail trade.
  6. I would assume that , being a Bachmann product, the moulded coal is removable, so could be replaced with real coal to your own quantity requirements. The LNER livery sample looks superb. Really looking forward to adding one of these to my stable of locos.
  7. According to the reviewer in the Railway Modeller, the livery on the city class in the ambulance train pack is correct. 3711 City of Birmingham was one of a handful of locos to wear the livery for a few months in 1916 before reverting back to green. Evidence can apparently be found in The Great Western Way published by HMRS. There's even a colour chip.
  8. The OO Works model is only difficult to find because it was the only RTR game in town. With the recent announcements, I bet they will soon be popping up on ebay.
  9. The coaches also seem to have changed colour from maroon to green. I believe the loco livery is correct for a machine commandeered by the state for war duties.
  10. No mention of the E4s that I could see in the latest club magazine, either as 'in production' or due for release over the next few months. Progress on the Birdcages is also disappointing. (Sorry for going off topic)
  11. Can't see these flying off the shelves at Camp Barwell
  12. Maybe some Great Northern liveried teaks as an optional train pack.
  13. A C12 tank engine for me please. GNR, LNER and BR up to early crest liveries all possible.
  14. Marsh Atlantic in L.B.&.S.C. umber. Actually that'll probably be next years CC model.
  15. I'm happy with the statement from Locomotion and Bachmann regarding the exclusivity of this model. Bachmann have the Brighton Atlantic and are not prevented from doing the GNR small boilered version C2 should they choose to. At the end of the day, the product on offer is a superb model of a fine looking locomotive at, IMHO a reasonable price. The DJH white metal kit with motor and gearbox would cost the same and I don't have the skill to paint it to anywhere near the standard shown in the pre production samples shown by the NRM. I want these models, and exclusivity or lack of it did not affect my decision to purchase the GNR and LNER versions. And I'll probably add the BR one to the order aswell.

    Hornby P2

Just been looking at archive footage and stills of COTN, and it seems to me that the handrail along the boiler is green, not silver / steel / chrome as on the upgraded Hornby offerings. The reason it looks lighter than the body colour is because being a curved surface, it has a highlight from the sun / sky. In a close-up shot from the front where the rail is vertical, it seems to be the same colour as the smoke deflector behind. It wasn't common for LNER locos to have natural metal handrails, especially the apple green ones. Quite happy to be proved wrong here, but in a way, the green hand rail on the railroad version looks the more realistic to my eye.
  17. Is it intended that all 3 versions appear at the same time or is it going to be a staggered release.
  18. Mmmmm, wonder if any enterprising RTR manufacturers reading this, would be interested in cashing in on this beauty and produce a rake of GNR teak 12 wheeled carriages. Pleeeease.
  19. It is my totally unbiased opinion that the GNR model is the sexiest thing ever to run on OO scale wheels.

This looks to potentially to be a stunner, and I'm happy for all the North Eastern devotees looking forward to it's release. Just seems strange to choose to model a loco with such limited livery options. (BR black early or late crest if I understand correctly). Does the tooling have potential for modification to earlier Ks such as LNER or GNR versions ?

    Hornby P2

I ordered the P2 from Rails 12 months ago and have so far missed out. The 2-HAL in SR olive from the same retailer, was ordered on the day they got it from Hornby. I got it 2 days later. Some you win, some you loose I guess. I guess that if Hornby gave the 'Box Shifters' enough stock to fill all their pre-orders, only the biggest half dozen shops would get any stock at all.

Full spec version in stock at Rails of Sheffield tomorrow ! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO ! :locomotive: :locomotive: :locomotive:
  23. Yes me too ! Plus the Bachmann D-11 in LNER black, and all three C1s from the NRM
  24. Due to lack of space, until recently, I could only collect locos for my display cabinets. Now I have the room for a layout I find my lack of 'working layout knowledge' a tad daunting. Sorry if this question sounds stupid but can I run two 2-BILs coupled together for a more prototypical working ? Will having a motor at each end of the formation cause electrical problems with power, points or isolated sections. If so, can one of the motors be removed or replaced with a non powered bogie ? The reason for asking, is the SR units from Kenrow Models at £60 a pop make binning the motors seem much less extravagant. With most RTR coaches costing £30+ these days, at that price it's like the 2-BIL motors are free anyway !
  25. The cab shape is the biggest visual difference for me. I'm also guessing that as one was built at Doncaster and the other at Brighton, many 'off the shelf items' would be unique to their respective builders.
