  1. Well no luck I'm afraid. I got the motor wired up using the orange/grey wires as per the guide. Isolated everything using Kapton tape and insulation tape. Put the chassis back together tested it for continuity and was clear. Put the wheel set back in, checked for continuity again between the two halves, all ok. Wired track pickups to the chassis screws (one on each side, black to the left red to the right) put it on the track..........shorting out. Tried again and still shorting out. Can't find the source of the short. So have put it back how it was and works perfectly on DC. Never in my life have I had so much bother than I have with this split chassis. Needless to say I won't be trying to convert anymore of them. Great guide though so informative.
  2. Thanks for the clarification. I will see what I can do. Thanks again.
  3. Hi, sorry to resurrect this topic. I was wondering if anyone could help. I've followed the directions as set out to a point. On this model I have (31-408) there are no pickup wires or tags from the front bogie assembly. Do I need to add these wires so that the Red/Black wires can be attached? I can do the Grey/Orange wires to the motor no problem but not sure what to do with the Red/Black. I am assuming that I need the Red/Black wires attached in order for it to work. Many Thanks Brett
  4. Hi Stephen, Just found your thread and a very good, no, brilliant layout you have there. Can I just ask what size card you used to raise your roads? I am in the process of making my N gauge layout and need my roads crossing the rails to make a level crossing. I had thought of layering card on top of each other to build up the height. Regards, Brett
