  1. What manufacturers are planning to make is confidential but not what they are not planning to make. For instance Simon Kohler told the Wimborne Railway Society that Hornby was not going to make a model of the Blue Pullman and Hornby has not made one. At present 563 is not on view as it is in Herston works to repair some minor damage it received in transit to Swanage. If a firm was to make a model of a T3 I wonder who would buy it. There must be a limited number of people making models of the Swanage Railway or who are running an LSWR layout. Yet if people are going to buy the LSWR cross country set they are likely to buy a locomotive like the T3 to pull it. Not many people are modelling the Liverpool and Manchester Railway but lots of people have bought a model of the Rocket. Perhaps a model of a T3 would appeal to a wider audience but possibly a smaller number than those who bought a Blue Pullman.
  2. The Swanage Railway has made some enquiries to Dapol and Bachmann about making an 00 gauge model of 563. They said that there is not much demand for one and if they charged £350 no-one would buy it. This leaves the door open to other model railway manufacturers so it is an idea for the 00 Works.
  3. You will be pleased to read that 563 has arrived at Swanage and can be viewed from King George's playing field
  4. Thank you. The date in the caption may be wrong but Adams Radial no 426 worked on the Swanage branch until just before May 1924. The coaches do look similar to the EFE cross country set.
  5. Every time I log into RM Web I am getting a Threat Secured message from Avast Security as shown in the enclosed picture. I wonder if admin is aware of this threat and is able to deal with it. I have tried messaging admin only to be told that admin does not take messages. Robin Brasher
  6. I have not got much knowledge of LSWR coaches but there is a picture of Adams Radial no. 426 with a rake of main line bogie stock at Challow Hill cutting circa 1902 on page 103 of Swanage 125 Years of Railways by B. L, Jackson. To me the coaches look like an LSWR cross country set as modelled by EFE.
  7. You can obtain a Hornby M7 and Adams Radial in LSWR livery on the second hand market. The T9s were rebuilt so the Hornby version in LSWR livery is a model as preserved. OO Works models are ready to run and they have made some locomotives in LSWR livery.
  8. Thank you for the information about the goods van. For me the production of E8641 LSWR cross country 4-coach pack in LSWR salmon and brown is wonderful news. These will be much more useful for me than the four and six wheel coaches which were getting obsolete for my model of the Swanage Railway. I already have the BR (ex LSWR) three coach pack that I was going to repaint in LSWR livery but I never got round to it.
  9. The Hornby TT:120 A4s are better quality models than the Dapol N gauge A4 and the Hornby TT:120 A3s are better quality models than the Graham Farish A3 which attracts me to TT:120.
  10. What happens if they have sold out of 46257 City of Salford and you cannot get a replacement? It is not in this year's catalogue.
  11. My BR Mk1 crimson and cream coaches have arrived to go with my cycling lion 'Silver King' They are also suitable to run with 'Falcon'. Although they are Eastern region coaches they will not look out of place with 'Duchess of Montrose' and 'Sarum Castle'. Crimson and cream coaches also continued to run with British Railways late crest locomotives.
  12. Hornby's subsidiary Corgi is now selling reproduction Dinky Toys produced by Norev through the Corgi Model Club so it has branched out to improve Hornby's financial situation.
  13. I had another go at getting my ticket from Wareham to East Cowes on the South Western Railway site and here is the result.
  14. Two of the stations on South Western Railways list for closures: Corfe Castle and Lymington Pier, never had a South Western Railway ticket office in the first place. Despite this there are around 230 ticket offices on the list.
  15. I did not know that I wanted an NE goods van to go with my BR Sillver King and two crimson and cream Mk1s until Hornby suggested it.
  16. It will be wonderful if Cheltenham Models sell TT:120 as they have a sales stand on the Swanage Railway near my flat on some of the railway's special event. It would be better still if the Swanage Railway and other local shops became stockists.
  17. 10% of the population is a lot of people. Even if you can use the internet you cannot always get a ticket. I tried to get a return from Wareham to East Cowes on the National Rail site and the response was 'Bad Request' yet I had no problem getting the ticket from the ticket office.
  18. I bought a return ticket to St Albans from Wareham from a ticket machine. The machine took the money but had run out of cards to give me a ticket. The booking clerk at Wareham said that the problem with machines is that they don't work.
  19. As Hornby TT is not yet available in my local model shops I am still ordering via their website. I am finding Hornby's marketing rather aggressive. I have just bought two crimson and cream Mk1s to go with my 'Silver King' but Hornby have asked me if I might also want another A4, more Mk1 coaches and a NE goods van. If I go into a shop the assistant just takes my order and does not suggest I might want some more items. If I wanted another A4 and a NE goods van I would have ordered them.
  20. There is only one prototype Deltic locomotive so I think it is a strange decision to limit the production to 500 models. If the demand exceeds 500 it means that Hornby cannot produce any more while honouring their advertising. It also leaves the door open to Bachmann producing another batch of Deltics. It is possible that Hornby originally made less than 500 models and is simply finishing its original production run. If Hornby is producing more than 500 Deltics it could discourage collectors from buying other limited runs like the six models of Flying Scotsman and the five models of A4s. I would like to see an end to limited runs as it puts unnecessary pressure on customers to order models as soon as they are announced and it stops Hornby from producing more runs without risking a loss of confidence from their customers.
  21. Hornby are going to produce another run of the Hornby Dublo Deltic to satisfy the demand. It was advertised in the Hornby catalogue as 500 models only but if more than 500 people want the model it makes sense to provide some more models for them.
  22. I ran my Hornby 'City of London' and 'Duchess of Atholl' at the Wessex Group of the Hornby Collectors Association meeting at Corfe Mullen last Tuesday. They both ran very well hauling three Mainline Stanier coaches on an 8' x 4' layout with Peco large radius points, It was nostalgic and reminded me of the train set days in the 1950s when we ran Hornby Dublo maroon Pacific locomotives with three coaches on imaginary journeys on the the West Coast main line.
  23. If you have scatchbuilt or kitbuilt a model locomotive you appreciate how difficult it is to produce an accurate working model. I have now tested my D1 at the Hornby Railways Collectors Association meeting. The D1 ran very well and I liked the firebox flicker, it reminded me of the firebox glow on my Tri-ang Hornby M7. I like to run my locomotives in but I had a limited amount of time on the club layout. The instructions say that running in is not necessary so after a couple of circuits I tried it with three Mainline Stanier coaches. The D1 seemed to struggle a bit with these but I will only be running it with a few Bachmann ex SECR coaches so that does not matter. The Tri-ang L1 with magnadhesion could haul over six Mk1s on steel track.
  24. My D1 has arrived care of DPD. It is a delightful model and I am pleased to see that the cycling lion on the crest is facing the locomotive on both sides of the tender. The other picture shows a Tri-ang Hornby L1 and how much models have improved over the last fifty years. My only criticism is that the coupling between the locomotive and tender is a bit delicate and fiddly. I hope to give the D1 a test run at our Wessex Group of the Hornby Collectors Association meeting this evening.
