  1. Have found some Killin Junction Station pics which you may not have found in your searches.

Go to www.topticl.com and on the first page go to 'photographs for sale' and then 'on line gallery' and then to 'railway environment' and finally to 'stations'.

There are all in a bit of a jumble but if you scroll through thumbnails you should a few of Killin Junction there - all appear to be taken after the line closure.  Have a look under the other headings on this website as there are other C+O images there too.

Of course you might have seen them before.

With good wishes and trust you and the family are coping with the lock down.

      Hi Menno

Have had a look at two DVDs "The Railways of Scotland" Vol 9 Routes from Stirling and Vol 5 "The Western Highlands".  Killin Junct is featured in them both.   And I have missed the fact that the Junct station colours were not the same as those used at Killin.  It would seem that the painters never went down the branch to Killin!

I have screen shot a number of images for you from these two DVDs.  Here are the four of them.

Hope these images help if you haven't seen them.

      Hope these help you.

      Cheers Alisdair

The Killin branch closed in 1965, BR having taken over the station in 1948 at nationalisation.  The external condition of the station building suggests it has not been had much paintwork attention from 1948 and 1965.  So yes maybe it is LMS paintwork, unless it was given a coat in the early days of nationalisation, which I would doubt.  It was -  after all - a bit of a forgotten branch line well away from Glasgow Head Office.

      Hi Menno

Found these two colour images of Killin Station which might help you.  Not my pics so they will be copyrighted.  They date from the last days of the branch.

Hope they help as I would suggest the Junction station would have had its buildings painted from the same paint tins.  What I do know is that Callander Station was in this same brown and cream colour.

      Hi Menno

      Nice little model.

I suggest you have a look at https://www.stationcolours.com/scotland  which gives a good guide to the colours used on the Callander and Oban line.

I attach three of my own photographs of Killin Jct which might be of use.

      With all good wishes

      Morning Angus

Glad you found a way round it - after all its just for research and not for profit!

You are quite right about the scotch derrick.  It was really the only feature in the station yard.

I found details for their design on the CRA Modellers Forum, and after another google search I found one advertised in USA at Valley Model Trains - Wappingers Falls NY in H0 scale - which is fine by me as it will be at the back of the cameo and will not dominate the scene.  Now that I am pushing on with the layout so I need to get it ordered.   They call it over there a stiff leg derrick from their website.

The cameo will be modelled in the BR period - which I remember from my trip on the branch.  And I have a DJH 4mm Caley 439 0-4-4T to hand, and a Bachy Standard 2-6-4T and a Bachy Thompson brake second.  Add a few 16T minerals, a couple of goods vans and the grey non-fitted brake van which seems to feature a lot, and the stock is complete!

Part of the fun of it all will be the shunting of the goods and passenger stock.  Especially the passenger stock.  I have included two fiddle yards at each end (Killin Jct and Loch Tay)  both of which had run rounds, but as you know there was nothing at the station.

I had thought of motorising the coach for the freewheeling down the gradient but making / braking a consist in DCC is not proving to be easy in NCE.  So I am looking at the coach simply freewheeling by gravity down a minimum gradient with a solenoid pin up through the track to hold it off scene at the junction end fiddle yard while the loco is uncoupled, and runs down through the station and into the yard siding.

One of the club members has emailed me to say he has produced the yard pointwork - reused EM track taken from Whithorn when it was regauged to 00 last summer.   But that is going to have to wait until after the lockdown ends.

Keep in touch and if I find anything more I will let you have the details.

      Regards

      Alisdair

Apologies but I think I posted the note to you in the wrong place, but at least you have found it.   He might be open to offers on the download or maybe erm photograph your screen with the image.

Pleased to note the family health scare was not what you thought it was, and I trust your step daughter will make good progress.

Been sorting out my Whithorn and Killin paperwork and related computer files.  Ordered the main baseboard from baseboard supplier for Killin - but it looks like its going to be 5-6 weeks away before delivery.  Should have thought ahead and ordered it weeks ago.  Colleague has completed the custom Killin yard trackwork for me and its ready to be laid when the basedboard arrives.  I am currently progressing with the station building.   And then there is only a brick store to be built. No other buildings of any note required, but lots of trees.

      Cheers

      Alisdair
