View Advert Athearn Genesis Challenger 4-6-6-4 with DCC sound and DC remote control The time has come to sell off a large collection of US outline HO scale stock, including several articulated locos and big gas turbines. To begin with, here is a beautiful Union Pacific Challenger loco, with factory fitted dcc and sound, together with a wireless DC controller which also allows control of individual sound functions, which Athearn state is more than have previously been available to any conventional DC user (at the time of manufacture). There is also a manual volume control. This is a big loco! Measuring about 17" long it comes in the unmarked original box with the full colour manual and original warranty card. The loco and tender are immaculate. Very impressive on the move, and a fantastic loco to own. There is one currently on ebay (they don't come up that often) at £795, which I think is a bit overpriced, so this one is available for a fairer £475 to a good home. View Advert MPD 7mm Scale MR / LMS Johnson 1F 0-6-0t This is an MPD Kit of the Johnson open cab 1f 0-6-0t. The MPD kits were very well made and highly thought of, and are now hard to find in their original format, having (I think) been bought out by Slaters back in the day. This kit is, I believe, the one still marketed by Slaters, although it now includes wheels, motor and gearbox, which this original version does not. The chassis and coupling rods are milled brass, the smokebox is a turned brass casting, and the detail parts are cast whitemetal with the safety valve in brass. the frame spacers are pre tapped and brass bushes are included. The Buffers are brass shanks with steel sprung buffers. The kit is assumed complete: the etched parts all appear to be present and all the cast details were still sealed in their plastic bags (I opened the bag of larger castings for photographic purposes). The instructions rather charmingly apologise for the lack of the safety valve rods, as the manufacturers did not feel they could make them to a fine enough standard, but have included wire so the builder can fabricate their own. I have not checked every single part, but the photos form the description and show everything that is included in the sale. With this in mind, I hope this is a bargain at £175 (the Slaters version is listed at £420, but of course includes wheels, etc.) Thanks for looking. The kit appears mostly complete, but there are some missing parts: It appears that the cast details have gone awol at some point. However, wheels, axles and crankpins are included, as are a 38-1 gear set and gearbox and pcb and phosphor bronze pickups, none of which were included with the original kit (I think). It should be fairly easy to source the few missing castings, but the price reflects the fact the kit is not complete. The photos show all that is included in the sale. I've made a start on the mill building, cutting out the front elevation and lightly scribing on guidelines for the weatherboarding. I had some problems with the windows to begin with until I discovered a line overcut feature on the cutter, and increased the thickness of the glazing bars by 0.02mm. Mk1, 2 and 3 below. I think this is about the limit for this machine, but I don't think such fine details could be achieved with casting or a laser cut (I could be wrong!). Even a brass etching would be a challenge, and expensive too.
