Re the 2mm scale 100t TEAs, I don't know how much work would be involved in back-dating the model, but I would be seriously interested in a rake of blue tanks of the 88020-80 batch. Presumably that would also open up the possibility for the attractive gas condensate tanks which run between North Walsham and Harwich. That's just my personal take on the model. Anyway, thank you very much for all your work, and looking forward to postie knocking on the door several times this year with more RevolutioN goodies Regards Steve

  12. Hi, Rob Apologies for the late reply (only took 5 years!) I regularly read a handful of Dave F's excellent photo pages, and reached this point a few days ago. You posed a question about the 110 TSLs at Portobello. Roger Harris' excellent 'Allocation History of Diesel Multiple Units Part 3' shows the transfers of a handful of 110 centre cars to and within Scotland in the late 1980s. Cars 59696/7/701/10/810/7 were all transferred from Neville Hill to Haymarket in May 87, on to Eastfield in Feb 88, back to Haymarket in Jul 88, and then on to either Landore or Neville Hill at various dates between May and September 1989. The presence of several cars at Portobello suggests that they might not have seen intensive use during this period, but there's no mention by Roger of storage during this period. I hope this is of interest and answers your (probably long-forgotten by now) query. And thank you for your many dmu observations on Dave's photos over the years. I've learnt a lot from your comments and posts about the fascinating heritage dmu fleet. Regards Steve
  13. Apologies for not having read this post referred to before making my last remarks. Leisure time is at a premium at this point in my shift roster. Regarding the storage of waste at Theddlethorpe, I doubt the even if approval was given, it would be a five minute job to get the ball rolling, and once dumping had started, I suspect that it might take several years at least to fill the facility, otherwise why use it if there's no great capacity available? All this time, the access to the site (on land at Theddlethorpe?) is potentially vulnerable to an incident like that in 1953 where combined extreme tidal and meteorological conditions caused the North Sea to overflow flood protection measures in the area large areas of the land were flooded. This type of incident is predicted to be more likely in coming years as water levels rise due to recession of the ice caps. So all the time the facility is in use, until it is filled, capped and finally sealed, there is potential for flood water from the North Sea to access the waste stored below, and then wash around the surrounding area containing who know what. You refer to the waste being encased in solid rock. How carefully is this going to be sealed? If it's just a case of dropping rock in to top it off,that doesn't seem to me to be a particularly watertight arrangement, and even if concrete were used, how is this guaranteed? And - back to the 'solid rock'... In 2008 there was an earthquake near Market Rasen, 18 miles away, and approximately due west of Theddlethorpe. It was the largest in the UK for 24 years, at 5.2 on the Richter scale (not a pleasant experience for us living 13 miles away) and was described as having taken place due to movement on an East-West fault line. I'm no geological expert, but how long is this fault line, and does it extend as far as Theddlethorpe, not far of due east of Rasen? So, again, exactly how solid is this rock? Anyway, one would hope but not necessarily expect that the authorities would take this into account, expediency probably taking priority. I'm amazed that the government are giving this serious consideration, due to the factors above, the extremely poor transport access, and most importantly (to them, I'd think) the fact that Lincolnshire has at present entirely Conservative MPs. Once again, apologies to Clive for a post which has nothing to do with Toy Trains, Music, or Fun. That'll be my last two penn'orth on the subject on your thread.   14. Hi, Clive In your earlier post you referred to the regular event of the coastal area being reclaimed by the sea. With climate change and global warming this is surely only likely to increase the chances of recurrences of such events, and are the authorities likely to spend money on improving coastal defences in East Lincs when they seem quite happy to continue to let East Yorks fall into the sea? If such an event were to engulf this new facility at Theddlethorpe, goodness knowws what might end up washing around the fine agricultural area that is the fenlands. Time will tell. I hope the authorities take all factors into consideration. Anyway, enough doom and gloom. Have you any more of your superb dmu projects to update us on, to brighten up the day? Regards Steve
  15. Hi The Ever Given saga has been very interesting to follow. Regarding the possibility of there being model railway products on board, has anyone seen confirmation of this? I would certainly hope that there are no Farish powered models in the consist. I shudder to think what 3 months of cycling Egyptian desert temperatures (between daytime highs and night-time lows) would do to any of the Farish gears... Steve
  16. Hi, Clive Bit (rather a lot?) off-thread, but what are your views on the Theddlethorpe proposals? We're 28 miles away and none too thrilled. Sounds like it's been well thought-out - superb road links and rail links to get the stuff in (not). And 14 miles from a massive reservoir supplying a large county and beyond... Who dreams this stuff up? Steve

Was trackside (behind the fence) filming trains almost opposite Hatfield colliery one afternoon when 5 blokes appeared in view the other side of the tracks, all with sacks of coal on their backs. One was also carrying a metal shopping basket. Anyway, after walking a few yards lineside, they all proceeded to cross all the running lines to my side of the track and deposited the sacks in the back of an estate car forty or fifty yards away. At this point they realised they had a problem - a flat tyre... One came over and asked if I had a wheel brace. I thought I'd better lend him it for fear of ending up with it bent over my skull otherwise. Anyway, once the wheel was changed, the brace was gratefully returned and they were on their way with their ill-gotten gains. And the shopping basket - for sifting the dust out of the coal to ensure all was good stuff.... Steve (Apologies to Clive for thread hijack)
