  1. @br2975 @keefer thanks. I think that's exactly what I was looking for!! I'll hunt through and read appropriate documents.
  2. Is there a good guide for all the markings on freight stock? Either on line or a sensibly priced in print book? Thanks.
  3. So in answer to my question @The Johnster have you used the natural scenics range coal? Is it any good and what size do you recommend for 00 gauge?
  4. Yes. Would be my guess too. But since I will be changing to dinghams hopefully room to fit.
  5. Thanks @Graham_Muz. No steam heating pipe in accessory bag, just front coupler, lamps and discs and some lovely fire irons and tools. Looks Like an after market order will be needed.
  6. Lots of companies seem to be carrying this and looks good but the size grading is as clear as mud! Anyone used it and have a recommendation for sizes for cost wagons and tender/bunker use? TIA Leigh
  7. I'm still struggling to get my head round SR/BR(S) headcodes. Ones based on type of train were so much simpler. What would be the headcodes fir a train of banana wagons going from Southampton Docks to London. Or any goods to/from docks to London.
  8. On my model there are hoses on the loco buffer beam. I assume vacuum brakes abd steam heating. Am I right? And why is there only one (vacuum?) on the tender buffer beam ? TIA Leigh
  9. Mine have gone awol despite my care. They don't appear to be avaliable as spares. What have people done to replace them?
  10. @Graham_Muz if you are able to use the info in this thread to draw up the correct sized lettering I have the ability to print white on my laser printer and would be happy to run a sheet off you. Your website has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration as I start on my 00 journey and be the least I can do. Leigh
  11. I need just one of these so I thought I would ask here before buying a pack of 3. TIA
  12. Thanks. I've placed my order for them. Just hope I can successfully paint over that bright blue!!!
  13. I'm getting into 00 gauge after doing GWR in N and US Narrow gauge so my knowledge is still a bit thin. The network southeast East twin pack of the BR 20t and the SR 25t pill box can be got for great prices and I'm happy to repaint but are they appropriate for an Era 4 layout? Would other changes be needed?
  14. @bécasse thanks very much. Mine is a Southampton one so will need bigger buffing heads.
  15. Have you fitted them to Dapol ready to run stock? I have a ventilated van from and it is solid behind the buffer beans. How would I do this?
  16. I read in a review the Dapol 00 B4 has undersized buffers but can't find the actual dimensions in my limited library or online. What size should they be? And for bonus points a source of correct size replacements? TIA
  17. What periods (after a repaint) would these be suitable for. I'm looking at early nationalisation. Would the Coles be appropriate or is it a later era vehicle?
  18. I'm just doing a shunting layout nothing bigger than 0-6-0s and 10 foot wheelbase so hopefully overhangs are not a problem. Dad uses them on his O gauge which is the attraction. And he is guild member so can order me what I need 😉
  19. @Rivercider Thanks. First B4 I've found. I've not really used Flikr. I'll take look. @bécasse is R the same as numbers? I've seen that on USA tanks too. What is the meaning of the two at mid height? Is it common to have mixed lights and headcodes?
  20. So no particular reason for any number without a list of the daily duties?
  21. Cheers. Neebie question!! What is a duty number?
  22. Bachmann Spectrum Magnum DC controller. US plug so convertor will be needed. 15V DC output and 18V AC. I've never used it. Was got to test stock before coveting to DCC. Got a much smaller little UK layout set controller instead. I don't think it was used before I got it either. Collect Sussex or Postage at cost.
  23. Has anyone tried this? I've seen sprat and winkle with Magnetic 3 links and they help the realism but that's offset by the loops. So I think I'm going with Dinghams woth my OO gauge (also Dad has used then on his O gauge so have some experience of then) but the dropper is much closer to the buffer beam than the S&W. Does it work and does it look OK? TIA
  24. Looking to fit these to stock for my budding microlayout. Any advice or pitfalls to look out for? Currently it's a Dapol B4, a MR/Bachmann USA tank and a mix of modern Dapol, Dapol kits and parkside kit rolling stock. TIA
