  1. Show went well this past weekend - here are a couple of photos: -Clay
  2. Here we go - this module is ready for the show - working on Hogsmeade Station now...
  3. Getting ready for the show April 23-13, tweaking up my Key Biscayne module and had to break out my Florida East Coast E-8...
  4. Hey, There's a big show April 13-14 in Timonium, Maryland USA and I'll be displaying Hogwarts, Hogsmeade Station and Key Biscayne as part of a giant modular layout with miles and miles of contiguous scale rail. Our club layout will be only one of a couple dozen set up for this show. See http://www.gsmts.com for more info.
  5. Here are a few I shot of the Key Biscayne module
  6. I haven't pulled photos of the show this past weekend from my camera yet, but here's one my buddy Mark shot of Key Biscayne and shared with me:
  7. ...and here's a wide shot of Key Biscayne, with Hogsmeade Station connected in the upper right of the image. The Station connects to Hogwarts Castle, and Hogwarts connects to a midwestern USA mining industry...you gotta love modular railroading!
  8. Thanks Guys. I'll be at a show next weekend, but only taking the Hogsmeade Station modules and my "Key Biscayne" module. I'll take more photos and post. The photo above was taken in early morning natural light at a low angle to the module which brought out detail in the water surface texture. In the exhibition hall, the diffuse and dim lighting makes the water look flat (below.)
  9. If I understand how this forum works, if you click on the image, you will be able to view it in a higher resolution...? Alas, No.
  10. Until I stood next to one as its geared wheels rolled by me, I would not have said that a Shay is the most beautiful locomotive in the world.
  11. Thanks guys I'll be displaying these again at a big show in April and I hope to have a better quality video capability then.
  12. Thanks Jeff It took about 5 months - a couple of hours several evenings each week and several hours on the weekends. I still make occasional upgrades. The buildings are primarily balsa, basswood and poplar dowells.
  13. I belong to a model railway club in Maryland and I have been building Harry Potter themed modules beginning with Hogwarts Castle. It is built to US HO module spec's as a pair of 48" corner modules. The castle is entirely scratch-built. I also modeled Hogsmeade Station as a pair of 48 inch by 24 inch modules. I used a mix of Skaledale and Bachmannn 00 scale structures based on Goathland Station - with some small modifications. 15. Squatch, Its freaky wierd seeing another's take on the same subject as one I modeled. You do some things wth your surrounding environs that I wish I could do - and there's real genius in your scenery technique. -Cgraham
  16. Thanks! I spent about 5 months - a couple of hours 2-3 evenings each week and several hours every other saturday. The buildings are mostly balsa, bass plywood and poplar dowells. I struggled with finding a way to get a stone-wall look surface on flat and curved surfaces. I wanted it to look the same whether it was smooth PVC or grainy balsa wood. I ended up pouring room temperature vulcanizing mix on a sheet of stone texture styrene to make a big, rubber “stamp” that once cured, I laid flat on a table. I then spread embossing ink (from the scrapbooker’s section of Michael’s Craft Shop) on the rubber “stamp” with a roller and then pressed (or rolled if cylindrical) the model part on the stamp. While the ink was wet, I sprinkled black embossing powder on the surface and zapped it with a heat gun. The result is a very convincing stone wall texture; the process also worked for roof shingles. 17. I bow to your Kung Fu - especially in regard to your detail in the landscaping around Goathland Station. Amazing work, and I admire your keen sense of appropriate modeling subject matter. I chose a very similar subject, but modeled as portable HO scale modules as part of a modular RR club. Here is a taste of my stuff. I used many of the same structures you used for the station, but my castle is entirely scratch built. -Cgraham
