Well Done ! See you in Derby sometime ?
-
Pleased to see that you visited our local line.
Some of their DMU restoration group are members of the Mickleover Club and worked together to restore our O Gauge layout that had it's first real exhibition at The Derby Roundhouse in May. Thanks to their involvement at Wirksworth at least two of that group have secured Apprenticeships working in Derby for 'real' railway companies!
As a Club with a large membership we are often given magazines and books and all of our surplus stock ends up there to help keep the shop well stocked!

Congratulations - a very well deserved award.
Of course the question has to be 'what's next?' as we can't invite the same layout two years in a row ! !
-
See you in the morning - not sure where Tim is going to put you but in any case it's best to unload at the front doors due to building work in rear carpark - you need to follow the one way system around the building to get to the front !
there is a map on the Assn website here

Many congratulations - a well deserved winner.
See you at Burton - lots more competitions there to enter . . . . . . . . .

Not sure which is more interesting - the extension to the layout or trying to recognise all the contents of your kitchen cupboard ! !
The secret project sounds interesting - I assume it's railway related . . . . . . . . ?

Many thanks again for helping to support our little show - glad that you enjoyed it. Sorry to hear about the car problem - at least it happened after and not before !

Of course I had to click 'Like' as I'm organising the Mickleover meeting.
After watching how this has developed over the past year, I'll looking forward to seeing the real thing instead of the photos!

But will it be ready for Mickleover next week . . . . . . . . ? ?

To make sure you get a smooth finish to the top/bottom of the box, put a thin piece of plasticard over the mould and squeeze out any excess resin. Phil Traxson of Port Wynnstay does this every time and all his castings are very thin and clean without the need to level them off. He has some sort of clear sheet that the resin doesn't stick to

In fact am only writing this now to divert myself from launching the whole thing out of the window!
Oh dear - sorry to hear that . . . . . . . . . . .
-
Have you seen the one David Taylor completed. Starts here
-
Most impressive - I'm glad it all worked out in the end for you - even if there were a few minor issues . . . . . .
What other shows do you have planned?

Don
Sorry to hear that - not a lot I can add - if it's any comfort to you I have been in the Mickleover Club over 30 years now and in that time I have only built a Ratio Cattle Dock and a wooden platform for a layout that disappeared about 20 years ago - nothing since!!
See you at Club sometime and we can catch up with your thoughts for the next project !
Mike

Ah!- was that me or were there other unidentified RMwebbers there as well . . .!!
Looking forward to seeing further updates (but then you need to find that camera first)

If you got the brick stencil at NEC then it was from Bromley Craft Products

Another thought about the timber is Weathered Wood Stain from EDM Models - about half way down this page

Hope that helps

Pleased it all went well - next year we'll see if we get a couple of our guys to help out with the parking issues - some of them will do anything for a free lunch - and haven't has school dinners for years !

Pleased to see that you recovered after your lie-down and it was good to see the mock-up at Club tonight. As I said, when you first talked of doing this project, I hadn't realised that there were so many angles involved and I just thought that the 'railway' would go straight up the cliff at right angles to the road but the final version shows that nothing is square!
Looking forward to seeing further updates - any target for completion?

I'm still waiting for the phone call to say that I won the raffle !!
Congratulations to all concerned - and as for next year, we have some road signs at Mickleoever you can borrow . . . . . . .

Hi Andy
Very pleased that you enjoyed your visit - we had a great time running the event and showing the various club layouts and those of our members. We had the best attendance for many years and put this down to extra publicity and being on the door most of the time, there were many visitors who hadn't been before.
The Famous Trains Group had a press release in the Derby Evening Telegraph http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/Model-railway-display/story-17040285-detail/story.html and a reporter and photographer visited on Saturday. With Darley Green at your show next month you can perhaps get DET and Famous Trains to run another article as publicity for you.
We also contacted Radio Derby and Andy Potter visited the clubrooms for an interview that went out on Thursday afternoon, the show was mentioned a few times in their 'What's on' feature and then they phoned Saturday morning just before we opened for a live interview.
All this extra publicity helped a great deal and I hope there are some ideas that will boost the attendance for your first show in November - I hope to be able to see you there

A mini layout on a round board - that's different. Does it turn round as well to become a train turntable !!

Hi Don
Pleased to see that you are making a start with this and we look forward to seeing progress at the Club. As you have set yourself a deadline, then I guess the first public showing of the completed model will be the Mickleover Show, October 2013.

I hope to get to Apedale . . . . . . but just as a visitor so it won't be a 5.00am start for me !
Thanks again for your support and bringing the layout to Mickleover.
