Although my 2 car set was based around Radley Body-shells I did produce my own sides and ends in styrene using a Cameo Silhouette. The roof would be the tricky bit to scratch build. If you could find something with a similar profile as the lower roof section then I think you could add the higher sections in styrene I think.

I'm just starting to build a new layout....the successor to 'Earl's Court' I like the look of the SMP plastic based points kits but wondered if anybody out there assembles them? Terry

Firstly, thanks to Andy for an excellent report. Although most of the items in question are not of interest to me in a modelling capacity I feel I need to remind some people how lucky we are compared to 10 or 15 years ago. Excellent variety and quality of models. Yet some people are still not happy. Faux wood not looking like real wood????? Come on guys. Let's take a moment to consider how lucky we are. Well done Bachmann and the other manufacturers big and small.

Hi Simon Next week I'm going to Australia for a month but when I get back I'm going to take some good quality photos and videos of much of my stock. I will post some pictures then. Earl's Court has done about 45 exhibitions and there are bookings for later this year, but nothing north of Spalding. Having exhibited at Warley, Railex, Doncaster, Ally Pally, Stafford, Leamington etc. enquiries are just starting to tail off a bit. But I would love to do a couple of exhibitions further north. I'm always happy for interested, responsible people to have a look round the operating side. One of the other magazines has asked to do an article about the stock featured on Earl's Court. So the Oerlikon will be included. Terry

I bought a 3D printed 3 car Oelikon set from this supplier. It wasn't cheap and it did take some work to get the body to a satisfactory finish, plus I added detailing etc. I also had to sort out chassis, motor bogie etc. But I ended up with a thoroughly good model of something that couldn't be purchased elsewhere and which I had tried (and failed) to scratch build. It appeared at a recent exhibition and drew many admiring comments. Here is a small supplier trying to fill gaps in the market, and in many scales. I think he should be applauded for that. If an individual modeller thinks creating or sourcing is not viable then he/she doesn't have to purchase it. But let's give the guy some praise and support rather than predicting gloom and doom or even criticising him for not supplying chassis/motors etc.

My Good lady had exactly the same complaint about some layouts being too high to view properly.

Is it DCC and does it have sound?

Thanks for the nice comments Simon. I agree about drawings, modifications etc. My view is (with all my models) if they look a good representation of the real thing then I'm happy. I would certainly be interested in more Q stock as I am just about to start a new layout which will include more underground stock. (In 4mm). Any idea how they will compare in price to the Radley items? By the way, I'm just completing the Oerlikons of yours I got via Shapeways. I did use the unit at a recent exhibition although they were not quite fully finished. They look very good. Did take quite a bit of sanding to get the finish I wanted and I have added further detailing but I am very pleased with the final result. Will post a thread about them over the next 7-10 days. Thought you might be interested in my Q Stock (One of each car G & K) that run on 'Earl's Court' They are Radley bodies but with my own Styrene overlays for the sides and ends cut on a Cameo Silhouette machine. I decided to produce overlays for two reasons. Firstly, (as mentioned in a previous post) the door and window arrangements didn't seam to match drawings I had to hand. Secondly, I wanted to achieve a more flush glazed appearance than the resin castings would allow for. The chassis are Radley with a Tenshodo motor bogie. Bogie sides and underframe components are my own resin castings based on photos. Sound is from John Gymer at Youchoos. Directional lights are fitted. People have question how realistic is a 2 car set. Well I justify it as follows........ Firstly, prior to the cessation of the Edgware Road to Kensington (Addison Road) shuttle in 1940 a two car unit was used (Although not Q stock I believe). Secondly, in the excellent Brian Hardy book 'Underground Train File, Surface Stock 1933-1959' there is a photo of a 2 car unit (G+K) substituting for the single car units on the Acton Shuttle. I have a picture somewhere I took of PWM653 on an engineering train at Paddington coupled to a (Class 35) Hymek! Circa 1970. Lovely project.
