  1. Can anyone comment if the running issues are still present on the new release 91110? The heavy running through point work and the lack of fore and aft bogie movement. We know Hornby are producing a new design of underframe/bogie setup due the issues, it just seems very grey when!! TIA.
  2. Nice bloke, very helpful and polite yesterday and the Ally Pally show stand. Accurascale poaching all the best staff in the business :) PS Has Mike Wild also left Hornby Mag. I think i saw in the last mag they had an acting editor?
  3. Update (worryingly) from Hornby (just one line emails) re-parts to resolve the 91 poor running issues. Thank you for your email, unfortunately the replacement parts have failed to make an appearance. on pushing further given the very brief reply: Thank you for your reply, the parts on are back order with supplier with no confirmed delivery date. So just two one line emails in response! This really is poor customer service from Hornby, not the kind of caring 'we are about making people happy' setup (remember the old chap with his broken Rocket loco) the TV show makes them look like. I have 2x 91's that i didn't return to the retailer on the basis this would be resolved fully and quickly with replacement parts due last Autumn. How can Hornby not know at all when a part is going in to production thus delivery back to them (now circa 6 months later)? Does anyone know a way to reach Hornby higher up? I was going to ask Simon this weekend at the London Ally Pally show but Hornby weren't even there!
  4. Can confirm the back to backs on my wheel sets checked so far are 14.6 to 14.7. So wide to gauge (not one is 14.5 or less). All other stuff I have seems to be 14.5 max including Accurascale Class 92 and JUA's, so here is the issue. Looks like its going to be a widespread issue, not a rogue axle here and there. Tried the quick fix of just pushing the axle tighter together but its not having it. Either due to the axle caps or something else. I wonder would it be possible to shave a bit off the axle length with sandpaper of a fine file? Have to consider whether i try fix myself, return or sell on via ebay! Have to do some more tests to see how widespread the derailing is on non-straight through point running.
  5. I will have a check when i have access to my layout again (away at the moment). The fact its hitting the frog and thus forcing a lift over the check rail made me think potentially wide to gauge. If it was narrow i would have expected it to have hit the check rail and be well clear of hitting the frog?
  6. Has anyone had any slight derailing issues with their MK5's (TPE set for me). Using standard Code 100 Peco points and I notice there's sometimes a clipping noise as the pass through. It often seem to be facing points when diverging. Ive ran a coach by had through points and the lead axle on each bogie is clipping the frog and forcing the wheel to lift over the check rail. I do need to check the back to back on the axles as a tad wide to gauge sprang to mind. I have completed some other basic checks already such as ensuring the bogie movement is free. I don't have any other derailing issues with other stock (Accurascale or other vendors) so I am not thinking its anything p-way specific to my layout. Interested to hear if others have faced such issues and any suggested fixes beyond back to back checks.
  7. If only it was loose, its stuck hard in that position! Too much risk trying to free up on a new model so yet another return it is. Sloppy QC must cost the model business a fair bit. Not sure who take the hit on return postage costs etc!
  8. Thanks for the info. I have dug around and seen a few images and haven't seen any like mine. Typically (I am a little jinxed with defective models it appears) I seem to have picked up a rogue one. I have never had more defective models than during this last year. Given the now high cost of models I had hoped QC might have taken a step up too, maybe the reverse has actually happened!?! Anyhow I have arranged a swap out with my online retailer, the hassles of dealing with that now. Going to be unlikely to have this resolved before xmas I think!
  9. Has anyone else had a loco with the radiator etched mesh poorly glued?
  10. Hornby told me today.... Thank you for your email, sadly we are still waiting for the parts to be delivered from our overseas supplier with no confirmed delivery date. If you send me an email in 4 weeks' time.
  11. Seems so. Awaiting replacement (redesigned) parts is what they told me. That's going to be bogies surely, bogies that allow pivot. They will either have to leave the dampers as separate Bachmann style static display fit only or under scale the size to allow clearance i assume.
  12. Given my other posting I am curious on this matter. I am in contact with Hornby regarding a repair on mine (the standard running issues reported by most). Did they replace just one bogie or both? Is there more pivot movement in the bogie(s) now? Does it still thumb hard through point work or improved? Thanks.
  13. I am in discussion with Hornby now, I need to reply back to them. The current status is they are doing retooling work in China for future releases to apparently resolve the issues. When these parts are available they will have a process of repair for current customers. The suggestion seems to be that if you send your locos of now you will get a half way house fix. If you wait you will have a repair to the same standard as future releases. However they gave no time scale for this!
  14. My first IC attempt was one with no blemish amazingly! Not sure if my retailer TMC did checks pre-despatch?
  15. I've just noticed that West Hill now do a 2022 specific coupling pack for the MK4 sets. Anyone tried this? West Hill stuff in my view seems decent enough normally. I was just surprised to see them use intermediates for the coaches, I thought that would be too long but in the pics on their site they look pretty close.
