  1. I ended up doing a similar matchbox bash with an Ernie 1 chassis but retained the matchbox side frames. I also 3D printed some raised bufferbeams so it could class as a small OO shunter. I wanted to go for a less toy like but still yellow colour scheme. It does run almost as well as a Hornby Ruston due to the weight from the metal body, even over my set track insulfrog points and has decent haulage, I managed to fit a 6 pin socket into it too. OliverSR
  2. Struggling to find a digital copy as they don’t seem to offer this far back. I’m specifically after the class 73/9 article so if anyone can assist then please message me. OliverSR
  3. I am after a copy of the November 2014 copy of model rail. I realise I can probably buy a digital back copy but if anyone has this to hand please message me. OliverSR
  4. I’ve been having a look into some potential candidates to either replicate or take inspiration from. NLR crane Lank https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/LMSR-and-BRM/LMSR-pre-grouping/NLR-locomotives/i-HtpCP4q/A LNWR crane tank https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/LMSR-and-BRM/LMSR-pre-grouping/LNWR-locomotives/i-KxtcZJ2/A Cape Town dock shunter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town_Railway_%26_Dock_0-4-0T beyer peacock 2-4-0 https://chasewaterrailwaymuseum.blog/2017/09/22/chasewater-railway-museum-catalogue-album-1-local-colliery-locos/05113-alfred-paget-0-4-2st-beyer-peacock-204-1861-ccccc-chasetown-1-4-1950/ admittedly some of these may not fully match up with the size of driving wheels my chassis has but not out of the question for a freelance industrial with some more grounded proportions. My planned layout is a small dockside scene so this sort of thing shunting about a truck or two would be appropriate. OliverSR
  5. Managed to remove the body from the chassis with it being held on with two screws. The footplate is also a seperate piece but the chassis looks well made with a decent motor and plunger pickups to driving wheels. Pretty compact in all so I don’t know why they made the body so box like and chunky as there wasn’t much mechanism to hide. If possible I’d like to avoid adding outside cylinders as although I’m happy to try a new body would rather not mess with the chassis. OliverSR
  6. I recently saw this O gauge loco on eBay, obviously scratch built and I doubt to any prototype. As it had no bids I put an offer in due to looking to have a decent motor and chassis under it and was accepted. It runs fairly well and with a clean I think will be even better. My thoughts have turned to what to do with the body, I’m thinking I may choose to scratch build a new one entirely and be gone with the oddly propositioned toy train aesthetic(it has its charm but doesn’t work for me). Does anyone have any suggestions of what this chassis could go under, I feel like an industrial shunter of some sort but wondering if there was a prototype with a similar wheelbase. OliverSR
  7. Pretty sure they are Harrow cabs, the flatter one for a driving trailer and the other one for a motor driving car. They look similar to these recent ones on eBay for an idea of the full models. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155963430850?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=z8VJV8BySlS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BsM2nwszTJi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I feel like I have seen people using older Farish coaches as basis for T stock so although they are just cabs, these could be put to that type of use. I’m sure I have some suitable coaches in my stock for a potential project…how long before I’d do that is another thing entirely(other projects).😂 Oliver SR
  8. I hope people don’t mind me resurrecting this thread, I recently came across the same static models for sale on eBay and they have peaked my interest. Did anyone manage to motorise one as I’d like to see how it’s been achieved. I did find a French site where they appear to have done so but the formatting of the pictures with text make it tricky to translate or understand. https://www.cercleduzero2.fr/motorisation-modele/ I hope someone has one they have suitably anglicised as I think they have a good resemblance of the lancing works shunter to me, and could make a nice little shunter for a micro layout or industrial sidings. OliverSR
  9. @298 if when the Radley models stocks are sorted through and any are released then you may be able to get hold of a full kit. Otherwise I might be able to try printing one off on my home printer I now have or run one off via shapeways or imaterialise but might cost a lot for what is essentially a scratch aid. You’d still need to buy buffers, roof vents, axlebxoxes, springs and wheel sets, also the step boards would need scratch building. So if you or any others want to discuss further then let me know via PM. OliverSR
  10. Very pleased to see the class 70s on the release list. One thing I feel looks a bit odd on the southern livery CC1 is the roof and solebar being the same green as the body, when I’d usually expect them to be grey roof and black solebar. I am certainly am not saying it’s inaccurate and I know makers put a lot of work into getting it right. I just find it an odd choice for the southern railway to paint the prototype like it. Can anyone point me in the direction of photos of the loco in this condition as most I can find in any books I have is CC2 in southern malachite livery? OliverSR
  11. That’s true, but sometimes if someone else has put time and effort into perfecting a technique I don’t mind paying for the time saving for me(I don’t have the patience to build everything from scratch😅). As it turns out there is no 7mm tools left so I will be experimenting with corrugated plastic board profile or I may be able to 3D Print a tool to suit my needs. OliverSR
  12. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but after discovering the YouTube video I was brought here. Are you still producing these tools as if so I’d be interested in a 7mm one.(PM Sent) OliverSR
  13. That was my project a while back and the photo on the preview was a 3D printed prototype in primer. It was run as a resin kit by Phil Radley so the moulds were with Radley models I think but unsure if/when that range will re emerge. I do still have the 3D print files somewhere so could print one but it would probably not be a cheap print these days and still requires some added detailing like roof vents and buffers. That was drawn up when I was not working full time so haven’t really designed any similarly complex files for models since due to time. OliverSR
  14. Thanks for the thought but managed to sort from a model show second hand stall recently
  15. Another brake van kit can be obtained from Smallbrook Studios https://www.smallbrookstudio.uk/store/4mm-00-Metropolitan-Rly-20ton-rebuilt-Brake-Van-kit-p235270145 RT models do a hurst Nelson brake van kit along with a rail carrier. https://www.rtmodels.co.uk/rt_models_034.htm No other options come to my mind but I’m sure others maybe have some suggestions. OliverSR
  16. I have checked and they seem to be the 3mm axels with no brass bearings, in terms of clearance the base of the chassis has more of this than my other models as I believe the tooling has its origins in the Thomas US range. I may buy a set of Class 03 wheel sets without brass bearings and see how I get on. OliverSR
  17. A good few years back I repainted and slightly modified a Bachmann Junior saddle tank, mainly drilling out the windows and adding handrails. It still seems a presentable model however when I dug it out recently I was struck with how big the wheels were. I seem to recall people have been able to swap wheels on RTR locos when bashing them into other locos. Bachmann spares site shows class 03 wheels available so I was wondering if people thought a set of these would be a potentially replacement? If the axles are the same size, I realise I will likely need to swap the gear but if the axels are the same size I could just swap out the geared axle? If anyone has thoughts on if Bachmann change the axel sizes over the years or if they think this would work I’d appreciate peoples comments. OliverSR I realise this may be better placed in the Bachmann section but as it’s more of a general query rather than related to a specific product thought it would be best here, happy for it to be moved if someone feels otherwise.
  18. I am Looking forward to it. I have been giving the trains and track on Lammas Lane a good clean is preparation. See some of you there next week. OliverSR
  19. Looking for 3 of the older triang style cream platform canopies. Don’t need the legs just the roof pieces. If anyone has any with missing or broken legs that would be ideal. Please message me.
  20. I haven’t sent it posted yet but I was made aware that Tony’s Trains have the EFE exLSWR Cross Country sets for the lowest I have seen £159.99 , all varieties showing in stock. https://tonystrainsofrugby.com/products/efe-rail-e86013-lswr-cross-country-3-coach-pack-sr-malachite-green?_pos=3&_sid=c763a9a1a&_ss=r https://tonystrainsofrugby.com/products/efe-rail-e86014-lswr-cross-country-3-coach-pack-br-crimson?_pos=1&_sid=c763a9a1a&_ss=r https://tonystrainsofrugby.com/products/efe-rail-e86015-lswr-cross-country-3-coach-pack-br-sr-green?_pos=2&_sid=c763a9a1a&_ss=r OliverSR
  21. Having recently bought the Early BR livery with red ends it really is a very detailed model. When test running round the middle axle caused some derailment on my less than perfect track work( a couple of areas where it was really bad I relaid the track as other trains have had issues). As a few others have described removing the bearings from the central wheelset has solved any issues I had and it now runs on my layout as faultlessly as it looks. This was my first Rapido item and certainly sets the atnddar high. Looking forward to the loco I have on pre-order… OliverSR
  22. I recently picked up these two EMU’s for a good price but driving cars only. They have been identified as the driving cars of a 4Sub and a 6Cit/Pul. They both have Triang motor bogies, one with later smooth wheels and one with replacement finer scale wheels, these will no doubt need a service before the emu is up and running however as the seller didn’t have the intermediate coaches what are my chances of sourcing some? The 4Sub is of wooden construction which leads me to believe it’s CCW?, unless a second hand stall of eBay has some intermediate coaches this seems unlikely. For the Cit/Pul which seems to be made up of a combination of triangle parts, whitemetal cab and maybe Ian Kirk sides? Would it be possible to make up the intermediate coaches with either Hornby or Ian Kirk Maunsells? I believe there would need to be Maunsell corridors of the high winder variety but not sure on what specifics would make either an exact or aproximate match. I also realise the Pullman would need to be either cut and shut or could maybe a renamed Brighton Belle coach be used? Interested to hear peoples thoughts, I realise these are not the high fidelity models of etched brass kit makers but I think they would still be something I’d like to see running around my layout(once I add a third rail). OliverSR
  23. Wanted to share a couple of CDC models I have and am very pleased with. First one was a 97Xx pannier in BR Black numbered 9701 with their pre painted and numbered option. All I have done is source a decent running Hornby chassis and small amount of filing before it clipped in. Was a pleasantly effort free way to get a more obscure loco running around my layout. I recently also bought a Metropolitan F Class which was painted but unlined as I wanted to do it in London transport livery. Fitted the designed Dean goods chassis with no effort. I had to rewire to remove the reliance on the tender and painted the coupling rods and wheels a more suitable colour. Waterslide transfers (simplified lining as I’m lazy) applied and coupling pockets glued in and now I have another loco I’m very pleased with. One last photo of both of them together but as far as I’m concerned the bodies represent a very good value way to get some models not available RTR and I will keep an eye out for any future releases that may interest me. I have no connection with CDC other than as a customer but wanted to share how happy I was with the models. OliverSR
  24. I have there two MK1 coaches which I’m unlikely to do anything with. Lima one is on bogies fitted with bolts which don’t seem original and Dublo one had a tension lock fitted at one end. Free to a good home, I’m near J9 M5 or can post at cost. OliverSR
