The Border Reiver replied to The Border Reiver's topic in UK Prototype Questions
I have obtained my late friend's photos who never recorded numbers, dates or locations. It looks like this slide was taken on the western region. On my original hi-def tiff scan the station name on the far left might read Reading. It is a blue class 50 50025 standing ay the platform. Can anyone confirm the location is Reading? -

I have obtained my late friend's photos who never recorded numbers, dates or locations. The previous slides in sequence were taken in south west England. Now it looks like he headed to the midlands. Thanks to everyone I have narrowed the date to 1981 and as he took his railrover holidays in June the date is June 1981. Now we have two photos seemingly taken at the same location. We have class 20 20087 and another hauling coal and class 56 56047 light engine. Can anyone identify the location? -
I have a photo of 56004 in blue at Old Oak Common open day 4 August 2000

I have obtained my late friend's photos who never recorded numbers, dates or locations. This slide was the next in sequence from the previous slide taken at Liskeard and the next slide taken at Dawlish Warren. It is possibly at or between Newton Abbot and Paignton. It is a blue class 31 with some interesting ironwork behind. Can anyone identify the location and if possible the locos number? -

I have obtained my late friend's photos who never recorded numbers, dates or locations. This slide was the next in sequence to the one of a class 45 at Loughborough Midland station which I don't need identifying. It is a class 45/46 (I can't tell the difference) and it looks like it was taken from a train possiblty on the Midland main line around 1981. The the only identifying details are the farm buildings on the right. Can anyone identify the location -

The Border Reiver replied to mac1960's topic in The Waverley Route
Here is a photo I took in April 1965 of class 45 D82 on the down Thames Clyde passing Caldew Junction just north of Carlisle station. Although not taken during the winter timetable period it may be useful to you. -

Carlisle Station 3 Septembr 2005. While waiting for class 52 D1015 "Western Champion" on the Pathfinder Tours 'The Western Heights' rail tour these two class 47s appeared light engine. The far loco is 47709 in Fragonset black livery with red stripe. Can anyone identify this loco which has black livery and Fragonset branding without the red stripe. I have googled Fragonset class 47 images but cannot find any results with Fragonset branding! -

On April Sunday 18 April 1965 I visited some north eastern sheds. Here is another photo I took that day of nearly new Brush Type 4 D1795 later class 47 47314 which was withdrawn from Tinsley on 28 February 2007 and cut up by EMR Kingsbury in April 2008. -

60s Industrial Steam (i.e. non-BR)
The Border Reiver replied to Trev52A's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
On December 6th 1966 my friend and I decided to go the Blyth on our motor cycles to visit the sheds there and Hughes Bolckows Scrapyard. After taking photos there we spent a few hours taking photos of some steam action on the lines just north of North Blyth shed. As well as the BR lines there was a NCB line to the staiths. This line is still there albit now going to Alcan Quay, the staiths long since gone. The remainder of the extensive trackwork now consigned to history. One of the photos I took was saddle tank NCB No. 1 hauling wagons towards the staithes. The footbridge in the photo can be seen at the top on the left hand side of the NCL map (link below). The photo below shows the staiths the train was heading for. I wouls appreciate it, if anyone knows any additional information on the area and staiths https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/?fbclid=IwAR1bo7savDqJ_zOsEaS7LHqk54G6CYXS47lQMDrzUgLIgu9FMjBOKMGirag#zoom=17.6&lat=55.13933&lon=-1.51432&layers=168&right=BingHyb- 337 replies

I was at Port Carlisle Junction in Carlisle waiting to take a photo of a special going up the Waverley line in the mid 1960s and was amazed when it went up the WCML towards Kingmoor. It eventually reversed and went on its journey up the Waverley line -
