sHas anyone had any news on this Kelsey publishing magazine/bookazine? On Shed 7 would be due out as I say above on 31 August, the last one was published on 31 May, albeit about 6 weeks behind schedule as far as I recall. There are no cover phots on the Kelsey website and it all seems to have gone a bit quiet. The next issue is on South and South West sheds. I think this series of publications have been excellent but now news as yet.

I tend to agree, apart from (3). I'd have prog or Jazz/rock fusion. Vent Vans , Sulzers and parcels stock are fine with me though. Tony

At the 1985 Cardiff Canton open day they were running a shuttle service from Riverside platforms in to the shed using the new Class 150 sprinter.

As the Johnston says about Renold Chains, which is where my Dad worked from 1948-1980. I used to go transpotting on the then Cardiff General and meet him after work and get a lift home (in school holidays of course). There was so much industry then, but Riverside platforms were then just for parcels (c1969-72). I lived overlooking Pontypridd station, which had load of different passenger workings in the 1960s, and kept most of its 7 platforms busy, as well as a continuous stream of coal trains, and the occasional parcel and engineer's trains.

Hi Jerry, apologies for delay in getting back to you. I visited the site of Ynysybwl Halt earlier today, camera in hand. Unfortunately there is nothing left to see now. There is a raised section where the platform used to be, but it's all overgrown. I could even see the bridge where the line continued northwards, maybe it was taken down previously? I can recommend the book Nelson & Ynysybwl Branches of the TVR by Colin Chapman, it's an Oakwood Press book. There are a few photos of trains at the station there and a good close up of the bridge where the line goes northwards, although it had been filled in then (1959). The line closed to passengers in 1952 and there are a few shots of the auto train. The line to Ynysybwl Lady Windsor Colliery remained open for coal traffic until about 1988/9. The book also refers to a siding at Ynysybwl Halt too. The line went on up the mountain to Cwm Clydach, where there is also the remains foa platform, and even further in to the forestry where there were a few mines, but they closed very early in the 20th century. The book I mention above would be invaluable to you. Good luck with the layout. Just out of interest the Cardiff 4mm group have a EM or P4 layout of Ynysybwl in pre Grouping days which regularly does the Cardiff Model Railway Show every couple of years. But that's based on the main Ynysywbl station. Regards Tony

On behalf of Pontypridd Model Railway Club I would like to thank all who contributed to making yesterday's show so successful. The exhibitors, who gave up their time to display their layouts, the club members and our volunteer helper on the door. Also the ladies in the kitchen who kept us all supplied with copious amounts of bacon rolls, tea, coffee and home made cakes. And, of course, all our paying guests (and lots of children who were admitted free of charge). Although turn out was down a little this year we all had a splendid day. The quality of layouts was excellent and everyone enjoyed themselves. We raised sufficient funds to keep the club running for yet another year and will help with our quest for new premises. What a shame Ken. We set up 9 layouts tonight with another 7 arriving tomorrow morning at 8a.m. Hope the weather is suitable for attracting loads of visitors. So 16 layouts , which include some featured in the model railway press, I feel is good value for a mere £3.50 entry. And they've all fitted in so far! Anyone local pleas pop along, it's a very good show. Tony

For all exhibitors at the Show, set up will be between 4pm and 8pm tomorrow (Friday 26th), and from 8am on Saturday. The show opens at 10am. Our resident electrical expert won't be able to attend , so can I ask all exhibitors to ensure they bring sufficient electrical extension cables. Otherwise we might end up with 16 static exhibits!! Tony
