What to do with old Tri-ang Princesses....
manna replied to 33C's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
G'Day Folks You could lengthen a A4 body, there were plans to build a LNER 4-8-4. manna -
G'Day Folks Pottering along, bit here bit there, no great progress, But the other day a parcel arrived, with a older type chassis for the N7, some bits and bobs, plus the Kit Built V2, paid about 35 quid, it's been dropped, so damaged bufferbeams loco & tender, buffers damaged or missing, cab roof broken off, but on the plus side, good modern Romford wheels, 5 pole motor and valvegear all in one piece and working. Both bufferbeams have been straightened, new brass buffers fitted, motor and gears adjusted, runs now with a battery, but not with the body on (have to have another look at that) a new loco to tender connection has to be made, it the future, a strip and repaint will be needed. For Christmas/Birthday my son bought me four Brass J50 chassis from 'Chris-P-Bacon', one will be for a J50, the other's I'm not sure on yet, but another or two J6's wouldn't go amiss, but the last one.............maybe a J2 !! seeing as I don't have one yet. manna

G'Day Folks Sometimes called 'Fly shunting', remember doing that to some Mk 1 coaches in the old Waterworks C/S near Hornsey station, made one hell of a bang, when one met six other already coupled up. But that was with a Class 31, so plenty of power and speed. manna

G'Day Folks With the smaller wheels under the Princess, it's starting to look like one of Stainer's 5mt 2-6-0's, just need a Fowler tender. manna -

G'Day Folks My, You have been busy ! manna -
G'Day Folks Time for an update. The J3 has had a coat of paint, just to see what it looks like, but there more parts to finish it. I visited 'Woodcock 29' on Monday, had a very pleasant time watching his trains go by, an generally talking trains. I came a way with a nine coach, 'Coronation' set (unmade) which he had been holding for me for at least 10 months, All I need to do now is finish the house, build a layout, then build the coaches, No sweat (lol). manna

G'Day Folks Think you'll have to replace the chimney to, or lower it. manna

G'Day Folks Maybe a conversion to a CD motor may have helped. manna

G'Day Folks I like that view of W1, next to the slab wall of the bridge, a good everyday pic of the railways doing it's job. It wasn't all glamour. manna manna

G'Day Folks I predicted there wouldn't be any GN tender loco's and I was right. Locomotion looks nice, Trout's make a welcome return. Other than that......well ! manna

G'Day Folks Thank you for the Christmas and New Year, Greetings and Wishes. Another year is here and what will it bring, for me, I hope to start the new layout, but first more work on the old house, hope it doesn't take to long ! Not a lot of modelling has taken place over the Christmas period, got to get back in to it. A bit of progress with both the J54 and J3, the J54 has had it's bunker flares fitted, the J3 has had it's tender flares fitted plus it's boiler bands, nearly ready for painting. but it'll have to wait for the handrails, I've no idea where they are. manna

G'Day Folks Don't know if I could give up Whisky and Cake !!! manna -
G'Day Folks I have some very clear memories of a few A4's. Mallard, passing through Hornsey station. Quicksilver, passing the sand yard at Wood Green station, and the very common Lord Farringdon, which seemed to pass through 10 times every day. manna

G'Day Folks I kid you not, only 17c on Christmas Day, windy and Grey with the odd spot of rain, almost unheard of, thought we were in for a 'White Christmas' that would have been a First, even now, the warmest day in over a month is 33c, just one day, mostly cool for the rest of the week, may see a 30c by the end of it. manna -

G'Day Folks I lived in a long terrace of house's in north London, not a lot of damage, but a Bomber did fly across the housing estate at an angle dropping a bomb in each street, all the bomb sites had been rebuilt by the mid 50's but to a modern style, that was very noticeable, so a couple of brand new house's in the middle of the terrace wouldn't look amiss. manna
