Ex-Great Central London Extension in the East Midlands.
manna replied to Chamby's topic in Layout topics
G'Day Folks I lived in a long terrace of house's in north London, not a lot of damage, but a Bomber did fly across the housing estate at an angle dropping a bomb in each street, all the bomb sites had been rebuilt by the mid 50's but to a modern style, that was very noticeable, so a couple of brand new house's in the middle of the terrace wouldn't look amiss. manna -

G'Day Folks Covid wasn't to bad, aches and pains for about a week, coughing, blocked nose etc. Just like normal flu. The J54? is a must have after seeing a 'top of the coaling stage picture' showing 3 or 4 of that type of loco at Hornsey MPD, resting between shunt jobs, some with domes, some without. Thank you for the Christmas wishes.🙂 manna

G'Day Folks Back again down South. I had the company of my son this time, He flew out to Townsville, ( From a cold Heathrow) where I picked him up from the airport, and a lot warmer. We spent nine days driving across Oz, driving a 4WD with a caravan on the back was a first for him, after nine years apart we had a lot of catching up to do, I almost lost my voice. The day after I arrived in SA, I caught Covid, I had been avoiding it for a good few years. Now it's time to resume modelling. I've had it in my head for a few years to build/convert a J52 into another variant (I think a J54, but I could be wrong) It's a Stirling engine, no dome and a open cab. I forgot to take a couple of early pics of the start. But I think you'll work out what I'm doing, give us shout if you need more info., Seven mm was taken off of the back of the cab, the bunker was cut down to 1 mm above the handrails, a (generally) square cut out was filed into the cab openings, these were then filled with plastic card, after gluing and filling, the cab cut outs were reshaped to a larger opening, which is where I am at the moment. While I'm here, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year. manna

G'Day Folks Nifty. Love it. manna -
G'Day Folks Looking at the loco above, I think it may be better to ditch the body altogether, hang a 4 wheel bogie off the back and build a new body (freelance) A nice mid Victorian 0-6-4T, Along the lines of a Southern 'J' class. manna

G'Day Folks Time for an update, been pottering with the house but taking a bit of time out to build Loco's. The J3 is back at the top of the list, I didn't like the 'Green' runningplate, not right, so I started again, but using the cab and boiler, couple of days saw the footplate and splashers replaced, so it now looks more like a J3 than it did before. Attention was then turned to the tender, I had already made the tender chassis, so I was only the body to build, couple of days and I have a reasonable Stirling tender. But all modelling has stopped for a while as I've packed everything away, as I'm heading back to SA for a couple of months. But everything is coming with me. See you in December. manna
