  2. Some choice Midland locomotives and rolling stock are coming up for auction... https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/special-auction-services/catalogue-id-srspe10578?searchTerm=midland+railway&whereToSearch=%2Fen-gb%2Fauction-catalogues%2Fspecial-auction-services%2Fcatalogue-id-srspe10578
  3. I see Rapido have announced another new pre-grouping wagon… https://rapidotrains.co.uk/lnwr-d88-covered-van/ What would be on people’s wish list for a RTR midland pattern (4mm) ?
  4. My dad's basic training was Bridgnorth - on their first night out they got heavily drunk on local scrumpy and my dad said he never touched a drop since !
  5. I see decorated samples of the Hattons genesis "in the style of" early Midland coaches have been released. Every Midland coach has sold out on pre-order so I expect future re-issues will be forthcoming given the apparent popularity of them - so modelling early midland in 4mm appears to be quite popular ! 6 wheel 3rd 6 wheel brake
  6. Something from the collection of the late Mick Martin, no idea where it is or who the locoman is.......
  7. I really must get this over the line and out there - it’s been far too long in gestation and ready for signing off
  8. here’s an alternative supplier for laser cut MR pattern fencing in 4mm scale. https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/lx293-oo-midland-railway--lms-fencing-87cm---oo4mm176-8755-p.asp
  9. Are there any plans to produce the open sided Wembley coaches by anyone else ?
  10. Are there any suggestions on this location ? https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/vintage-postcard-featuring-employees-of-the-midland-railway-news-photo/1226220271 looks very reminiscent of Dronfield but that angle of the goods shed is rather camera shy ! a good journal query corner teaser
  11. Mention must be made in despatches of FS Williams's seminal work and I find it is still an enjoyable read and a valuable - if naturally rose tinted - view of the expansion of the Midland. Although reprinted by David & Charles in 1968 ("with an introduction and corrigenda by C.R.Clinker ") and readily available for a reasonable cost (as are 19th century original copies), the fifth edition (1888) is free to read online. https://archive.org/details/midlandrailwayit00willuoft
  12. Richard at Everard Junction has done a total repaint and weathering of his example and very well done it is too… Everard Junction Heljan Peak weathering
  13. Some class 25s and 40s had a circular blanking plate on the nose ends from royal train duty to facilitate a radio communication wire from the train to the cab. See link below Royal Trains I don't recall a class 45 being used on Royal duty, however.
  14. Well if you want to score points about relief features, how do Bachmann footstep blanking plates compare with the original?
  15. You'll also notice the slots in the nose doors to allow them to open wider due to headcode boxes getting in the way. This only appeared on D11 & D12 so TMC may have to get the angle grinders out 🤣
  16. My Fell was DOA - Keith sent a (tested) replacement model FOC from Canada (fortunately I was at GETS so could hand over the errant model to Michael. Replacement arrived yesterday and works a treat. Thanks, Keith - great service :-)
  17. My fears exactly - no relief whatsoever in the doors and weathering only served to mask them even more. The green ends appeared better represented than the yellow. A shame as I'd have bought a blue D15 if the doors were well presented as it was their stand out feature.
  18. The sample on display (EP) has been running on the rolling road for a very long time and performed flawelessly. The green livery was in a satin / eggshell finish and looked lovely. That was the livery that was signed off and was expected to be delivered. "Imagine our shock when...."
  19. if 7mm sized blue star detail on a 4mm scale bogie is your thing then fair play to you 😃
  20. Same here - I'm very keen on a TMC special edition D15 but the nose doors look very low relief in the sample photos and I'd like to see one in the wild (hopefully GETS or Warley) before taking the plunge.
  21. There's a full review of the production model (plus an interesting loco history feature ) in the new Hornby magazine. I think a shipping container is probably on its way 😃
  22. How many different manufactures have released the Class 37 and 47 ? Then Bachmann issue an all new version with bells and whistles - which sells. Would a brand new 45/46 really be such a risk compared with the above ? I'd be happy with a Class 40 with 4mm scale blue star detail on the bogie, not 7mm 😆
  23. In unrelated news, a representative from Bachmann was at Kidderminster diesel depot yesterday taking measurements and photographing every detail of D182 to improve their future class 45 and 46 models. This might be of interest to those who consider Bachmann's model to be a more accurate 'shape'.
