  1. Eek! Absolutely, and an error of thoroughly school boy proportions. Many thanks for setting me straight, without the deserved sound thrashing!
  2. Thank you both for your thoughts, most helpful.
  3. I quite fancy at least one of those N Scale Dash 8-40CM. Does anyone know do any UK based retailers who are taking orders for them? Rails of sheffield do have some Rapidi items in their site but not these. I have emailed them a week ago but as yet no reply.
  4. Great topic, and a therapeutic pastime of mine....... All in N, and drawn in AnyRail Bournemouth West Sutton Coldfield Madderty, on the Perth to Crieff line
  5. Has anyone considered that Mr Cameron wants to house his own engines on his own land, at least partly, because he might want to look upon his own property, without having to travel to Bo'ness, Strathspey, York, Darlington, et al? Just a thought. I, for one, commend his actions, and all power to him.
  6. I already had a 'Perth' example ordered, but somehow the 'Edinburgh Ballast Sidings' passed me by. Therefore I've ordered a second.
  7. Very, very nice. Well lit and some lovely subtle weathering, to take away the common plastic look of the North American loco models. Inspirational and a joy to see. Thanks for sharing! Best Scott
  8. They do look lovely! Would you consider issuing these in N gauge as well ?
  9. Farish, for one, offer two bogies in some of their steam outline, one for train set curves, with associated compromises, and one which is more to scale. It therefore wouldn't be unprecedented to supply two. one with and one without the coupling.
  10. All makes sense, thanks. As I say, I wasn't saying it was wrong, just being a devil's advocate.
  11. But the old stock was bought from the wholesaler at a lower price to begin with. Whilst the new stock will be bought from the wholesaler at a higher price, the retail price he or she charges will reflect that higher cost price, won't it? If the shop sells the old stock at the new price, it could be viewed as profiteering? i.e. they are making a bigger mark-up at no cost to themselves. I'm not saying the shop, nor you, are wrong. Just thinking out loud for the benefit of discussion.
  12. The town of Katy, not far outside Houston, Tx, has a cement facility served by UP. This is a scale Anyrail drawing overlaid on top of a satellite image. The three sidings inside the loop at the bottom seemed to be employed unloading sand hoppers. Cement hoppers are unloaded at the top sidings. There is a set of sidings off to the right, where the switch is at the bottom right, just before the loop curves around. When I was there it stored empty sand and cement hoppers. N Gauge, as is my want:
  13. That is a lovely co-incidence that you mention Ribble. At work today, we were discussing Rolls Royce' predeliction for naming their gas turbines after british rivers and lamenting that they hadn't had the mischievousness to name one after the Ribble. Rolls Royce Ribble. If Edmund Blackadder had been in charge, perhaps.
  14. Wow! That second photo, of engine 200, is outstanding. It takes a third look to be sure it's a model! Bravo, sir. If ever there was an advert for good, appropriate lighting when photographing, that is it.
  15. In the interest of developing the Dundee Central discussion on, what would you change with regards the presented track layout?
  16. I've already got my ticket, from Montrose (the Aberdeen Sleeper), so it's done now. But thanks for raising the issue. One to think about for the next time.
  17. I can't alight from the Sleeper at Carlisle, I'm pretty sure. The only options the ticket gave me was Preston and I think (Crewe)
  18. For what it's worth, I've just had a look at my Kickstarter account and discovered that I've backed 29 projects, the very first one being a 3d printed Gannet in N Gauge. Out of the 29 three are outstanding, but the rest have all been delivered. No defaults. The majority have been for comic books/graphic novels, usually where the seller has the work done and seeks funding for publishing. In some cases the outline has been completed and the work requires colouring and finishing and so the funding is for that also. Most have been very high quality. Six have been for tabletop games. and one for a tripod adaptor for mounting a smart phone quickly and conveniently (curiously called the "Glif"), one for a laser-cut wood based engineering model, and one for a Mac-based computer game. On top of that I was in for two Pendolinos (delivered) and 21 35T Tanker wagons from RevolutioN (which should be arriving imminently.) Crowdfunding, for me, has been a very positive experience, but perhaps importantly, all of those I backed on Kickstarter had something tangible to show when seeking crowdfunding. In most cases they just needed help getting their idea into production.
  19. Try Collet's of Exmouth, he accepts paypal and has advertised these on his Facebook page.
  20. Thanks for that. My layout won't be portable, it's going to be pretty bomb-proof in the railway room. I haven't heard of one strike filler, so I'll need to investigate. My platforms should really be mostly paved, for the location/timescale so maybe instead I could lay sheet plasticard/balsa, etc on top of the filler. Anyway, I'll keep watching to see if it is an option for me. Thanks for the reply.
  21. I've never seen/thought of doing platforms like that. I shall be watching with interest as my platforms are a similar length, albeit in N gauge. EDIT - Just realised this is N Gauge too. Even more reason to follow.
  22. Thanks! I didn't realise the Heysham train was so restricted. I'll see if I can work it in.
