  1. Hi Regme Thanks for your reply to my plea. I'm using the free version 5. I have spent an age searching the internet for help with no luck. However I may not have seen your find so I'll investigate that later this evening. Regards Tony
  2. Dear all Can I ask for help from users of NanoCAD 5 please? I’m getting in right old tangle with ‘exploding text’. I’m preparing some CAD drawings for etching. Can anyone provide me with a precise blow by blow instruction on how to explode text using NanaCAD 5. Plus tell me what indication I get to show me that my text has been exploded correctly afterwards? When I try to do it the text I have created and then exploded doesn't look any different to before I started! Thanks in anticipation from someone who struggles with computers at the best of times. Tony
  3. Dear all Has any got a set of instructions for the 7mm ABS white metal kit for the LSWR 'D' end open goods wagon which they could scan for me. I'm in need a copy please. Cheers
  4. I don't drive, so have to have full sheets or lengths of timber delivered, usually from Jewson or Travis Perkins. I then cut it up my self, a struggle at times. Problem is a full sheet or length of this or that is always more than I need. It would be nice to find someone local to Nottingham who would could cut and deliver - I keep looking, but can't find any one. Tony
  5. Thanks everyone who has offered advice so far. My first port of call was Bob Essery’s and Stephen Summerson's fine books to make notes. Then I waded through my sets of Midland Record’s and LMS Journals, nothing in either for what I needed. I’d best explain what I’m doing. I've been eyeing MR 2-4-0's for a while for my 1905/6 period S7 layout, but the question was which Class – as I’m not that well versed on Order and Drawing Numbers etc. I tend to describe MR locos by class. This approach I will admit doesn’t work when looking for drawings for an engine that I know as a ‘1400 Class’. So thanks every one for your understanding. Looking through Summerson Vol.3 I can’t find any Drawing Numbers quoted for the 2-4-0’s. Originally I considered two classes, the 1400 (6ft 8½ inch wheels) and the 1492 Class (7ft wheels) and as it is to be scratch built I needed at the very least a GA for the engine and may be one for a tender, but that’s another matter. Judging by what information there is available out there, research is dictating this, my engine will need to be a 1400 Class with 6ft 8½ inch driving wheels. As for the ‘date’ of my engine, it would need to be as seen running in 1905. I haven’t as yet chosen an engine number, however it’ll be from one of the three batches built between 1879 and 1881. For 1905 it’ll have the revised full sweeping reverse curve design of splasher. As for the boiler and cylinders, Summerson’s book appears to show all would still have had P boilers at that date, and all which hadn’t got them had 18 inch cylinders fitted by 1905. So that makes life a little easier. Hobbyhorse’s drawings seem to be what I need, would you be happy to let me have copies of the 6' 9" version GA and the cab and smokebox drawings? I take it when you say 6ft 9inch you mean 6ft 8½ inch driving wheels. Cheers Tony
  6. The NRM is on the list of places to visit, HMRS at Butterley too, but with the current situation neither can help me so I thought while waiting for them to re-open I'd ask around.
  7. Dear all Has any one got a copy of a fully dimensioned GA drawing for either a Midland Railway 1400 or a 1492 Class Johnson 2-4-0 that you could let me have a copy of please? Cheers
  8. Can any one recommend a model engineer with experience with 7mm working inside motion who could do some precision machining for me - lathe and milling machine work.
  9. I’ve just purchased two old (1997) Bill Bedford etched brass 7mm Midland Railway horse box kits, a dia 397 and a 398. Both kits now I understand are out of production. Can any one help. I’m looking for instructions which came with them. Has any one got copies that they could let me have a scan of please?
  10. Hi Thanks for the information. I have contacted Dragon Models asking if they've got one in stock, just waiting for a reply now so I can place an order - I'm looking forward to building it already. Yes I agree, my understanding of tender air vents is like wise - they were only fitted if the tender had water pickup gear.
  11. Thanks for your reply. I will now send for one from Dragon. I asked about dimensions because as you will know most kits are great whilst odd other kits have dimensionally inaccurate parts which create all sorts of problems. One more question, can you remember, did your kit come with the early Johnson full width tool box that sits between the water tank filler and the end of the tender? I model the Midland circa 1905, so mine will be in red - a lovely livery. Cheers.
  12. I've only just found your description of building the Midland 3130. The finished item looks brilliant. Did the kit go together well, were there any problem areas, and most importantly did you find it dimensionally accurate? I like the look of your model so much I'm considering buying one myself.
