  1. A couple of quick questions if I may for those who know more about these things than me: Did any of the T3's appear in unlined black during SR days and although withdrawn before nationalisation, were any of them allocated BR Numbers?

  3. Unfortunately, we seem to be at cross purposes here. I don't want anything, it was you that asked for information from us, I was simply querying why the type of information requested varied by scale.
  4. Slightly confused I'm afraid. The section for scales includes G Scale, but the section for Brands bought does not include LGB etc?

  6. Thanks Andy, My concern is that the present pop up arrangements will put off new members who, when they first come across the site, will know nothing about being a Premium Member and may not stay long enough to find out.
  7. I guess this is one for Andy, Normally I stay well out of these discussions, but I do have a question. Is it the intention in future to feature pop up adverts (particularly videos as is currently the case) that can not be closed? Many thanks.

Well, I'm afraid it's taken me five years but I eventually found what I was looking for: These are all LSWR signals that Henry built for Nonsuch, the Epsom & Ewell Model Railway Club's 4mm scale Southern Layout. From left to right, the Loop Up Starters, the Down Main Outer Home and the Up Main Starters. These were of soldered construction and built from scratch, mainly in brass with a few white metal castings. The pictures come from an article published in Model Railway Constructor in November 1963.
  9. Not Salisbury I'm afraid, the canopy structure is wrong.
  10. The amount of Parcels, Post Office Mail, Newspaper Traffic and Passengers Luggage that was carried in those days. It also enabled the Guard to ride at the rear of the train without remarshalling when a set changed direction.
  11. First off, full marks to Bachmann/EFE for producing a Set 314 in BR(S) green, I'm sure they will be popular with Southern Modellers of the early BR Period. Looking closely at the pictures, the three coaches are numbered S2981, S5043 and S2679, whereas I would have expected to see S2981S, S5043S and S2679S. I was wondering if any of the resident experts know which is correct?
  12. The railway equivalent of a hydro electric pumped storage scheme perhaps? Run all the units up the line at night, then let them come back down during the day when the demand for electricity is highest.
  13. Personally I can live with the latest green used by Bachmann and I'm now hoping they will use this green for all their new Bulleids. What I wouldn't want to see is a different green in the same train or set.
  14. I think we've both forgotten that a further 2-Set (R), No 76, was created using BSK 4282 and BCK No 6713.
  15. As Stovepipe has said above, the Honiton BCK went forward as part of the 12.36 p.m from Salisbury to Exeter Central.

At this time all 40 of the Diagram 2406 Bulleid BCKs were allocated to the Western Section, No's 6714 - 6752 for Waterloo - West of England services, whilst 6713 (along with BSK 4282) had been used to form 2-Set (R) No 76. As far as I am aware the only other loose BCKs allocated WoE services were No's 6595, 6643, 6646, 6648, 6655, 6662, 6672 and 6673, which were normally used for additional summer/weekend services and to provide maintenance cover. Accordingly, it would seem highly likely that the majority of vehicles in use on winter weekdays would be Bulleid BCKs.
  17. As well as banging on about the Diag 2406 BCK on here, I also send Bachmann an occasional e-mail in case they have forgotten about it. This is the most recent reply received yesterday, which doesn't sound particularly hopeful: I’m afraid I cannot confirm any upcoming releases of an SR Diagram 2406 Brake Composite Coach. I’ve had added it as a suggestion to our product suggestions database, which is periodically reviewed by our Research & Development team when they are considering future products. In an attempt to help make the case, assuming someone from Bachmann might read this, here are the daily departures from Waterloo on the West of England Line. Daily totals for the current Bachmann vehicles are 6 x 2-Set (R) and 4 x 3-Set (L), whereas there are a total of 16 BCKs in use, including no less than 6 on the 11.00 a.m. BCK Workings - Waterloo.pdf
  18. Ah, I'm with you now. Basically, I was trying to make the same point - if you stood on the platform at Exeter Central from 5.12 a.m. until 9.53 p.m., you would see 15 x 2-Set (R) and 27 x BCK, although you might see the same one more than once during the day.

  20. The attached documents for a typical weekday in September 1961, show the formation of all trains at Exeter Central that included a 2-Set (R). I have also included a pdf version 2-Set (R) Workings - Exeter Central.pdf Incidentally, whilst there are 15 x 2-Set (R) workings per day, for the Diagram 2406 Loose BCKs there are 27.
  21. Early bus into town this morning to collect a 2-Set (R) in BR(S) green from my local model shop. I am very pleased with the overall quality of both coaches, (Semi Open Brake Third and Brake Composite). The shop owner asked if I would be back for more and was told yes, as soon as Bachmann produce a Diagram 2406 loose Brake Composite and a 3-Set (L), (BT/CK/ BT), all in BR(S) green.
  22. Perhaps we might get an indication of future Bulleid coaches at Warley? Hopefully, first up will be a diagram 2406 BCK, closely followed by a 3-Set (L), all in BR(S) green.
  23. Thanks Graham that sounds perfectly reasonable. I was wondering as early in my railway career I was once told by a shunter at Clapham Yard that, as these coaches were frequently coupled and uncoupled, the toilet had been placed in the centre to keep the outlet away from the couplings etc.
